rholowie
I don't know, but I seem to be noticing a trend in recent video games. Are video games becoming sexist, drafting the main female as either a sidekick or damsel in distress for the main, usually buff, male protagonist? Many video game protagonists were once a strong woman. (Jill Valentine, Samus, Miku, Claire Redfield, Jennifer Simpson, and Rebecca Chambers to name a few) Even though sexism in video games has almost always existed in gaming's life (Classic 'save the princess games), is gaming returning down this path? You'll notice many popular games now feature a male for a hero, some with a sterotyped damsel in distress. (Uncharted: Drake's fortune, God of War, The Darkness, Halo, Call of Duty, GTA, Resident Evil 4) Recently, Heavenly Sword may have broken the trend. Discuss, Etc. Silencerleader
True...true...another reason why video games are getting worse. I miss the times where Zelda led Link.
The Slime Lord
That's just one thing on the great list of video game clichés. And as for no female protagonists, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII and Estelle from Tales of Vesperia say hi. Just two games that are coming out soon. (That doesn't really mean much, but still...) Tkill93
Because Super Mario World is really sexist. Would a female character fit in as a main in GTA? Would a main female character fit in Halo? Doubt it. Video game designers are giving making male characters because they better fit the roles.

It would be cool if females got into some action in games! Take Samus for example.
rholowie
That's good that more female heroes are coming out in video games. I know they haven't disappeared, but their numbers are seeming to decrease in my opinion. However, in Tales of Vesperia, Yuri, I believe, will be the main protagonist, correct? Lightning, however, will be refreshing to actually have a woman take the spotlight. Because Super Mario World is really sexist. Would a female character fit in as a main in GTA? Would a main female character fit in Halo? Doubt it. Video game designers are giving making male characters because they better fit the roles. Haven't you ever heard of Resident Evil or Metroid. How about Tomb Raider? Women could do action roles just as well as men.
Tkill93
Yeah, I've played resident evil. Was I speaking of it? There are plenty of roles women don't fit in. Also, I find that the male characters also did a way better job in the resident evil series. with the exception of Jill. Dont bring up games like first person shooters because its highly unlikely that they're coming out ANY time soon. Also, Tomb Raider sucked. rholowie
And, even if males now fit the roles now, why not write more games in which women fit the main role?
Silencerleader
And' date=' even if males now fit the roles now, why not write more games in which women fit the main role?[/quote'] Exactly!!! Why not? It would be fun, but challenging so that it doesn't become Hannah Montana DDR.

Flame Dragon
I don't see it. Like Tkill said in most games a women just wouldn't fit the role for it's protagonist. Another reason this is done is because less people would buy the game if the protagonist was a women. This is a problem in society Also this isn't a trend. It has been like this since games first begain and I haven't seen a major change in it since I first started gaming back in 95.
rholowie
Video gaming has always been sexist in some form, I know that. Can you imagine people's suprise when they found out Samus was a girl? Yet Metroid remains an extremely popular series. Tomb Raider also remains an extremely popular series. As seen in these two games, a female lead does not decrease sales.
Flame Dragon
Thats because they are good games. Plus most people tend to forget Samus is a women, I do every now and than, plus a lot of people buy Tomb Raider just to look at Lara Croft. And these are 2 of the few popular series with a female lead.
Tkill93
And' date=' even if males now fit the roles now, why not write more games in which women fit the main role?[/quote'] Why should video game designers alter their original idea just so a small amount of 13 year old boys can fap to the main character? It's their games, don't like it? Too bad. Make your own game with your own female main character.

Zeroshot
Females have been looked down upon for many years because Men have been known as "The Meat Earners" and "The Tough Ones" since the beginning of intellegent life. There is also a belief that Eve took the first bite of the apple that the serpent on the tree that God specificly told them not to eat. Because of these beliefs Women don't appeal to be the fighters or the "Strong Ones" in the real and virtual world. When you look at a woman you don't exactly see the strongest destroyer of evil in the gaming world. Most video games nowadays are the Fight agaist Evil so this all makes sense ~Blaze~ That was a quote from my friend Blaze in an email I don't exactly agree with him but it makes a little sense. That saying is completely sexist in my opinion.
