Mindsets proposed in this topic are particularly what result in stasis. Obviously you'll get frustrated by things you can't understand. Okay, seriously - you really do need to stop saying things like this. Not only does it NOT contribute a thing to the topic at hand, but it really does make you out to be insufferably arrogant about your intelligence, perceived or otherwise. The sad fact of the world is that widespread change cannot be brought about simply by a group of exceptionally smart people, or exceptionally articulate people. Saying that it's pointless to talk to people of "lesser" intelligence hurts your intended cause, if you have one. I said in this topic earlier that saying "Check your privilege" without fully elaborating on what the phrase means or is referring to shuts people out of the discussion. It creates a firmer mindset of "us" and "them", when issues like this need to be addressed by unity, not separation of people by class, race, or intelligence. It's this mindset that breeds indifference to a problem. When people become aware of an issue in the world and are genuinely interested in trying to find a solution or understand the opposing viewpoint, they risk being shut out by phrases and ideas that pretty much say "You can't help, because you don't understand". It's true they don't understand, but you're not helping them understand. Some things can only be learned by experience, but not even helping someone grasp the depth of a problem because they don't currently understand how far it goes only hurts the cause. Negative media coverage of events with shootings and racism and all that has brought (back) awareness of the problems in the system. Focusing exclusively on the negativity will eventually just draw indifference, because it will be more or less the same content over and over. Some outrage, some riots, some bile, and some genuine shock and desire to change things, but being unsure what to do, if anything can be done by them at all.
