Is "Direct Damage" also considered "Battle Damage"?

If you attack directly' date=' then yes. Is via card effect, then no.

No.

This card can attack your opponent directly. When it does, any Battle Damage this card inflicts to your opponent becomes the original ATK of this card. You can change this card to Defense Position at the end of the Damage Step.

any attack from a monster is battle damage

Except for Gravekeeper's Vassal.

Well duh...

Also if you declare an attack and use card effect are different too. My friend said he almost lost because of someones ignorance. If you attack a monster with Dark Magician that's one thing. But's it's different if you use a monster effect like cannon soldier or catapult turtle to inflict damage. So traps like Sakaretsu and draining sheild and negate attack would not work.

The "via card effect" was obviously referring to the damage, not the attack. >_>
