Kanashimi
Few days ago been playing using UtopiaBeyond.dek and it's really fun to play with! (especially when you summon Hope Zexal) This archetype is called Izumo/Izumo Knight (anyone who watch/read Log Horizon knows this), no reason for the names just like the sounds of it (I'm not good at naming something so . . . bare with it)The main purpose of this archetype isn't to swarm the field with monsters, but instead, keep ranking up and gains benefit from it's Xyz Materials. Also they share the same ATK and DEF but has different attributes to each other. EndUser
Since the archetype resolves around its Xyz Monsters, it's only natural that these should be able to hold onto themselves. Gaining benefits from their Xy Materials is a clever move, however THERE lies most of their hidden potential. Izumo Commander Sanada is the most important monster in the Deck, and usually the first one you would Summon most of the times. As for the other Izumo Knights, nothing to say for now (since each of them has a single, normal ability that cannot be explained furthermore). They can't do much during the first turn they are Summoned (except if you manage to Summon Commander), but afterwards they widen your plays a lot, since they are treated as having a Rank (no dead Rank-Up Cards etc.) As for the R4 Xyz Monsters: They basically inherit the same protection their Attribute counterparts have, also having the ability to share it with another Izumo card (and another extra effect). Except Rank-Up-Magic Astral Force (and all the non-compatible with the archetype Rank-Up Cards), every other card can use ANY of the Main Deck monsters to Summon ANY of the R4 Xyz Monsters, only drawback being that the latter lose their own abilities if no Izumo with the same Attribute as them is attached as a Material. However, they GENERALLY inherit their Materials' abilities. It's all about adaptation to each situation. This kind of adaptation, though, can be very powerful at times. For instance, if you know your opponent relies on their Traps, you may use Nagi as a Material for every Xyz Monster (especially the FIRE one) to prevent the opponent from basically doing anything. This gets even better with more than 1 Xyz Monsters on your side of the field. Not only this, but they can protect even your Spell Cards or harm any of the opponent's cards on the field. The "only 1 effect" neutralizes the threat (especially if there's only 1 Material to use), but a steadily increasing field presence can prove very good. Now, time for the R5 Xyz Monster. Hm, if they inherit their Materials' effects the exact same way their R4 counterparts do, then they are way too strong. For example, a R5 Aiko having a R4 Aiko and a Level 4 Aiko means it's unaffected by monster effects, can protect up to two other cards from monster effects, shuffle up to two of the opponent's cards to the Deck and/or boost its ATK during battle. No restriction to the kind of Materials (i.e. being of a specific Attribute, being an Xyz or not etc.) that they can attach, so they're even more versatile than their R4 ocunterparts. Rank-Up-Magic Astral Force is one of their most beloved cards, for the record. The archetype's Spell Cards are not that impressive if alone, but combined they can make good plays. The Itsutsu Chidori and Kuyo Tomoe are simple searchers/recyclers. The first one does not specify whether the monster is Normal or Special Summoned though. I'd suggest make it work for the Normal Summos, since it is very advantageous if combined with the second one. The Maruni Sumitate and Mitsu Zaru have both their okay and powerful effects. The first one is a better version of RotA, also being able to search the Spell Cards. Since there's no monster spamming, some Summoning protection is understandable but, with the already inherited defenses, no response at all (besides if they are SS by an effect) is too much. The others is a battle-proof continous protection card, only when you attack. Following the logic behind the monsters, it could be toned a bit, since it acts as a double-shield for the already strong Xyz Monsters. Moreover, the second effect is not bad, but is very abusive if combined with Itsutsu Chidori and Kuyo Tomoe (+1 during your opponent's turn and +2 during your turn). In a nutshell: Except some basic restraints, the cards in general use a lot of generalization which needs to be minimized at some grade; the combos created make the Deck sooo powerful, not the cards themselves. Kanashimi
Uhh . . . . i appreciate "your long-long-long review" (srry i said 3 times) 1. About Sanada : Yes it's important, but dont' forget all of the Izumo Knights share the same effects "This card is treated as Rank 3 Xyz Monster while you control other "Izumo" card on the field." So having Izumo Spell/Trap is enough to make them treated as rank 3 Xyz Monster especially if you already has Rank-up-Magic in your hand (also searchable by Itsutsu Chidori) and even better if you have Astral Force, so this archetype "doesn't rely too much on Sanada" but Sanada helps a lot for this archetype. 2. About the Rank 4 Xyz : Yep! but here's the drawbacks, if you summon the Rank 4 Xyz using Sanada, you have 2 Materials attached on it and you are free to use the effs, but if you use single Izumo Knight via Rank-up-Magic the Rank 4 Xyz only has 1 material, so if you activate it's effs, you lose the corresponding material and also lose their own ability (just like you said above) But . . . This kind of adaptation, though, can be very powerful at times. For instance, if you know your opponent relies on their Traps, you may use Nagi as a Material for every Xyz Monster (especially the FIRE one) to prevent the opponent from basically doing anything.Actually your opponent still can play their cards but your monster is unaffected by their cards (if you use Nagi as an Xyz Material while your opponent rely heavily on Trap and such) "unaffected by card effects" is different than "cannot activate card effects". Oh and also don't forget, the Rank 4 Xyz having Izumo Knight as a material also gains the effect of being treated as Rank 3 Xyz Monster . . . so . . . It's Rank 4 but also have effs of treated as Rank 3 :3 3. About Rank 5 Xyz : Yep! Astral Force's best friends~ 4. About Spell :'Kay, as for Itsutsu Chidori and Kuyo Tomoe i'll change it to Normal Summon instead (since it's too strong and very abusive) The others is a battle-proof continous protection card, only when you attack. (i still didn't understand, more or less just want to make sure :P) And thx~ for the review (it's 10.30 here, hufft i'm sleepy)
EndUser
having Izumo Spell/Trap is enough to make them treated as rank 3 Xyz Monster Then you can even make your play from the very first turn. A solid setup, but... maybe too solid for the way the archetype works? It lacks Special Summoning in a way the opponent can overwhelm you quickly, but the generalization is basically the problem; not the cards themselves. Actually your opponent still can play their cards but your monster is unaffected by their cards (if you use Nagi as an Xyz Material while your opponent rely heavily on Trap and such) "unaffected by card effects" is different than "cannot activate card effects". Oh and also don't forget, the Rank 4 Xyz having Izumo Knight as a material also gains the effect of being treated as Rank 3 Xyz Monster . . . so . . . It's Rank 4 but also have effs of treated as Rank 3 :31) I overlooked this. Oops :/2) Both as R4 and R3 you say? Not that it matters, but it's an addition to the monster's versatility. 4. About Spell :'Kay, as for Itsutsu Chidori and Kuyo Tomoe i'll change it to Normal Summon instead (since it's too strong and very abusive)I'm not sure about Kuyo Tomoe, but I do recommend a change for Itsutsu Chidori. Can you be more . . . specific about it? (i still didn't understand, more or less just want to make sure :P)I didn't see that Mitsu Zaru's effect only apply for 1 battle, so it's not as powerful as I thought, but personally I'd still make it a bit "lighter" (but I really can't suggest something...). It's worst part (in my opinion) is the SS effect due to the combos it can create with the Spell Cards I mentioned with it. As for the generalization: If all the cards have effects for "a card", "an Izumo Card", etc. etc. the generalization it too much. You could, let's say, limit Maruni Sumitate to which monsters' Summon will be prevented, or make the Xyz Monsters target only monsters or Spell Cards for protection, or target only monsters or Spells/Traps your opponent controls, or change something to the R5 Monster's effects a little,... Don't make too many changes, but I hope you understand what I'm talking about.
Kanashimi
1. I'll take it as umm . . . "weakness of this archetype". A lot of today's archetype doing a lot of "Special Summon this" and "Special Summon that" so i just want this archetype to be different, but still competitive. 2. It is matter! Let's say you have Rank 5 Xyz and treated as Rank 3 Xyz due to Izumo Knights 1st effs but doesn't have Rank 4 Xyz as it's material (due to Astral Force rank up), You can rank up it become Rank 4 Xyz and gains all the effects of Xyz Material. (with lesser ATK from it's Rank 5 but still gains it's eff) 3. Kay 4. I'll do what i can . . . :P And thx again, oyasumi~ *Commencing sleep mode . . . on! Kanashimi
Updated on Izumo Crest of Itsutsu Chidori so it's no longer abusive with Izumo Crest of Mitsu Zaru, and change Izumo Crest of Maruni Sumitate eff so it's no longer search for the "Izumo" monster (already have ROTA anyway) As for the generalization: If all the cards have effects for "a card", "an Izumo Card", etc. etc. the generalization it too much. Don't make too many changes, but I hope you understand what I'm talking about.I don't think the generalization pose a problem, so i won't change it (as of right now) since "Izumo" card is already clear (means Izumo Crests, Izumo Knights, and the Izumo Commander)
