The Amazing Avian
Now I expected IT could potentially be pretty gross depending on the customers. For example if you smoke near a computer, you'll often see tar buildup. But nothing could prepare me for what I saw. So a guy called me to check his computer which for some reason lacked PCI slot covers (odd but not unusual) and he said it just stopped working, it would make weird noises, and it smelled like something died in there. I pop open the case and am greeted by a family of mice who had been chewing the wires after having gotten inside through the PCI slots. They all ran off and I see the source of the smell. Two mice chewed into the power supply and electrocuted themselves presumably a while ago because it smelled horrid. I almost threw up because now the smell was stronger with the case open. I told him to trash it and buy a new one and left. Moral of the story: Don't remove PCI slot covers.
