Mirror monsters (A new sub-type!)

Mirror monsters is a new sub-type for Effect Monsters. During your Main Phase, you can Mirror Summon them and their current Level (or Rank) becomes their Mirror Level. You can tell what their Mirror Level is by them having transparent/reflective Levels. This can be higher or lower than their current Level.

A Mirror Summon is not a Normal Summon, nor a Special Summon, so you can perform them, even if you can't perform those kinds of Summons, however you cannot perform them if you cannot Summon anything in general.

A Mirror Summoned monster remembers how it was previous Summoned. Mirror monsters are always considered Mirror monsters, however they are only considered to be Mirror Summoned when you Mirror Summon them.

Mirror monsters can be Ritual, Synchro, Pendulum etc. though they are mostly Effect Monsters.

Mirror monsters can also have other sub-types as well, such as Spirit and Tuner, where Tuner are most common, allowing you to change the Level to something more useful for a Synchro Summon, if the situation calls for it.

A Mirror Level/Rank acts the same way as a normal Level/Rank, so you can still use them for Synchro, Xyz and Ritual Summons. A Mirror monster cannot be affected by cards that affect its Mirror Level/Rank, unless they are Mirror Summoned first, or the card says so otherwise.

All Mirror monsters have this text:

"If this card is not Mirror Summoned, during your Main Phase: You can Mirror Summon this card and its Level/Rank becomes its Mirror Level/Rank."

[spoiler=Examples]

Here are some examples of Mirror monsters:

Double Pecker

Winged Beast-Type/WIND/Mirror/Tuner

Level 2/Mirror Level 4

If this card is not Mirror Summoned, during your Main Phase: You can Mirror Summon this card and its Level becomes its Mirror Level. A Synchro Monster that used this card as Synchro Material can make a second attack during each Battle Phase.

200/0

Chaos Gaia the Fierce Knight

Warrior-Type/DARK/Mirror

Level 7/Mirror Level 8

You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by banishing 1 DARK and 1 LIGHT monster from your Graveyard. If this card is not Mirror Summoned, during your Main Phase: You can Mirror Summon this card and its Level becomes its Mirror Level. If this card is Tributed: You can target 1 "Gaia the Fierce Knight" monster in your Graveyard, except "Chaos Gaia the Fierce Knight"; Special Summon it. You can only use this effect of "Chaos Gaia the Fierce Knight" once per turn.

2300/2100

Red-Eyes Shifting Dragon

Dragon-Type/DARK/Mirror

Level 4/Mirror Level 7

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 "Red-Eyes" Normal Monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it in Defense Position. You cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Red-Eyes" monsters during the turn you activate this effect. If this card is not Mirror Summoned, during your Main Phase: You can Mirror Summon this card and its Level becomes its Mirror Level.

1000/1900

Number 39: Utopia Paladin

Warrior-Type/LIGHT/Xyz/Mirror

Rank 6/Mirror Rank 4

3 Level 6 LIGHT monsters

You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 5 "Utopia" monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Xyz Summoned this way, it cannot activate its effects for the rest of the turn. Once per turn: You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card or Xyz Monster in your Graveyard; attach it to this card as an Xyz Material. This card gains 100 ATK and DEF for each Xyz Material attached to it. If this card is not Mirror Summoned, during your Main Phase: You can Mirror Summon this card and its Rank becomes its Mirror Rank. If this card would be destroyed, you can detach 2 Xyz Material from it instead. You can only Special Summon "Number 39: Utopia Paladin(s)" once per turn.

2500/2500

And here's some support cards, these are not meant for the above cards, just an example of what support could look like:

Picture in the Pond

Normal Spell Card

Excavate the top 5 cards of your Deck, you can add 1 excavated Mirror monster to your hand, also shuffle the rest into your Deck. You can only activate 1 "Picture in the Pond" per turn.

Pocket Mirror

Quick-Play Spell Card

Target 1 Mirror monster on the field; Mirror Summon it. During your turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 Mirror monster in your Graveyard; add it to your hand.

Strange Reflection

Normal Trap Card

Target 1 Mirror Summoned Mirror monster on the field; equip this card to that target. Its Mirror Level/Rank becomes its original Level/Rank, also it gains ATK and DEF equal to the difference between its current Level and its Mirror Level x 100.

so, just for understanding, Mirror Summon seems very similar to Gemini summoning, with the main differences being that mirror monsters are not able to be used with normal monster support, gain levels when conducting there 2nd summon, and unlike Gemini's, they can have effects before needing to conduct there second summon. seems like an interesting idea to say the least

so besides the level change what's the advantage to mirror summoning them?

Nothing, like other sub-types, it's not meant to be a massive advantage, but a special little trick you can use, and also that they are a sub-type, so they have specific support for them. It's meant to create combos, if you read the card examples, you can see how they may be used to your advantage.
