"Lore"

 

Small compilation of semi-random cards for a rough fanfic idea I have in my head (I'm not going to actually write said fanfic though).  Each color + colorless has cards, and colorless in particular has the most cards; this is because the {<>} design space is in its infancy, and is mostly restricted to the Eldrazi currently, so I figured that I'd throw a bunch of things at it to try fleshing it out.  So far, the main pattern with the colorless cards in this thread are that they outright oppose colored cards, support other colorless cards, or do things that any color can do, but for higher mana costs.

 

The general theme is colored vs colorless, where a number of the colored cards are buffed whenever there are opposing colorless nonland cards, and a number of the red cards in particular follow a "Ghostfire" theme in which the cards deal damage as though that damage was coming from a colorless source. 

 

In this rough fanfic idea, Gentrix is an emperor on an unnamed plane that uses a similar form of colorless magic to Ugin, which allows him to "ascend" to a higher tier of power, but the difference is that he also has the unique ability on his plane to tap into any color; he uses this power to subjugate the other inhabitants of the plane who use "inferior" mono-colored magic, and this tyrannical rule has held for decades. On this unnamed plane, colored mana is solid enough to be capable of being shaped into potent magical artifacts, but even this (which requires skilled artificers that are few and far between) isn't enough to topple the emperor.

 

Chandra, who has mastered Ghostfire and arrives on the plane after receiving word that Emrakul is approaching there, initially intends to warn the residents of the impending doom, but realizes that Gentrix needs to be dealt with first, so she teaches Ghostfire to the red-aligned mages of the plane, and rallies them into a revolution against Gentrix.  Gideon accompanies Chandra to assist, and is instrumental in rallying the resistance. The two Gatewatch members however also realize that they need to also find a way to reason with Gentrix, as his mastery of colorless magic may be key to at least keeping Emrakul at bay.
