Viral Infection

After a years break due to work, games ad general life I have returned! And I have returned rusty, creatively challenged and completely out of sync with the current meta and the TCG in general! Yay! 

The set is based around infecting the opponents field with the various virus and sapping away at their lifepoints whilst controlling the flow of the duel. When their lifepoints are low enough, the Grand Dragon comes into play and acts as the boss monster to win the game.  

So these are my cards that are to be the stepping stone back into the card making mind set. OCG needs alot of work (I know this) and not sure if they're OP or not (My judgement is completely messed up) There are more on the way, including Xyz and Synchro monsters as well as a whole lot more support cards. So rate, comment and all that good stuff :D

This card can not be Normal Summoned or Set. Banish 2 Viral Infection cards from your Opponents side of the field: Special Summon this card (From you hand). Each time your opponent takes damage due to the effect of a Viral Infection monster: Increase this cards attack by the damage taken. Once per turn; During your Main Phase: Negate the effects of Viral Infection Monsters on the field. If this card attacks a defence position monster; Switch that Monster to attack position.

You can Normal Summon Viral Infection monsters without tributing. Once per turn; Select 1 monster your Opponent controls: Increase or decrease it's level by 1.

Once per turn; Select 1 Viral Infection Monster in your deck; Add it to your Hand. If the combined levels of all your opponents monster are the same as the selected monster: Special summon it (from your hand) to your opponent side of the field.

(Not entirely convinced that this is how the extra deck monsters will work. I'm going to have a think and see if I can come up with another angle for them to synagise with the rest of the cards. (This is also why the OCG is rough, very rough. So please forgive me)

You can special summon this card (From your extra deck) to your opponents side of the field when they control exactly 2 level 4 Viral Infection monsters. When this card is special summoned; select 2 Viral Infection monsters you control: Attach them to this card as Xyz material. Once per turn; During your Main phase: Take damage equal to the amount of monsters on the field x300.  You take no damage from battles involving this card. This card can not be destroyed by battle.

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 4 "Viral Infection" cards from your opponent's side of the field. Once per turn, during your Main Phase: Negate the effects of all "Viral Infection" monsters on the field. If this card attacks a Defence Position monster: Change that monster to Attack Position.

 

4 monsters is going to be really hard to field for a deck completely reliant on the normal summon. Seems like this is supposed to be your win condition, but in a cloggy deck like this, I think it'll just hurt consistency.

When this card is Normal Summoned: Switch control of this card. During each End Phase: Your opponent reveals 1 card in their hand; if that card is a "Viral Infection" card, increase this card's Level by 1. You take no battle damage from battles involving this card.

 

Increases it's own level. Nothing super special here.

 

Cannot be used as Synchro or Xyz material. When this card is Normal Summoned, if your opponent controls a monster with the same Level: Switch control of this card. When you take damage from a "Viral Infection" card, double the damage taken. You take no battle damage from battles involving this card.

 

Doubling burn is good. Level 7 is not good, since it's gonna take a while to get most of the virus cards to that level, it's gonna require 2 tributes, and it's not a trade-in target. However, it makes you win the game that much faster, which is going to be a necessity.

 

Cannot be used as Synchro or Xyz material. Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. You can tribute 2 "Viral Infection" cards your opponent controls; Special Summon this card from your hand to your opponent's side of the field. During each End Phase: Your opponent targets 1 "Viral Infection" monster you control; increase its level by 1. You take no Battle Damage from battles involving this card.

 

It's nice that it can summon itself, but it's still going to take a long time to field those two viruses. And the last effect is good because with a lv6 base, your high-level viruses will be live a lot faster. 

 

Cannot be used as Synchro or Xyz material. When this card is Normal Summoned, if your opponent controls a monster with the same Level: Switch control of this card. During your End Phase: You take 500 damage for each "Viral Infection" card you control. You take no Battle Damage from battles involving this card.

 

Burn, which can be doubled by Blood Pulse but is still quite insignificant, since this deck seriously lacks speed. Usually I foresee this doing around 1000-1500 each opponent's end phase, which isn't much.

 

Cannot be used as Synchro or Xyz material. When this card is Normal Summoned, if your opponent controls a monster with the same Level: Switch control of this card. During each End Phase: Your opponent targets 1 Fiend-Type monster with 0 DEF in their Graveyard; add that target to their hand. You take no Battle Damage from battles involving this card.

 

Being level 3 is good and graveyard recovery is good, and triggering during each end phase is helpful. It's effect is generic too, but skimming the list of qualifying monsters, I can't really find anything that can help this deck.

 

Cannot be used as Synchro or Xyz material. When this card is Normal Summoned, if your opponent controls a monster with the same Level: Switch control of this card. During each End Phase: Your opponent targets 1 "Viral Infection" monster you control; take damage equal to that monster's Level x200. You take no Battle Damage from battles involving this card.

 

Lv4 means you might actually be able to give your opponent this card without using level modulation effects. The damage is decent, I suppose. It starts at 800 if this is the only card on their field, goes up to 1600 or so, and triggers during each end phase.

 

Cannot be used as Synchro or Xyz material. When this card is Normal Summoned, if your opponent controls a monster with the same Level: Switch control of this card. You can not add cards to your hand except by drawing. You take no Battle Damage from battles involving this card.

 

One tribute lock, which can really hurt some decks, but you'd be hard-pressed to get this out quickly enough to make a difference. And it has no other effects, making this card totally dead in certain matchups.

 

Discard 1 "Viral Infection" monster; Draw 2 cards.

 

Trade-In is nice, ups consistency, gets rid of dead cards.

 

If your opponent controls no "Viral Infection" monsters: Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Viral Infection" monster from your Deck to your opponent's side of the field.

 

Starts your plays, which is great. I feel this should be a continuous spell. Being a normal spell makes it too situational to be useful.

Target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish that card and 1 "Viral Infection" monster in your Graveyard, and if you do, skip your opponent's next Battle Phase. If "Virus Alert" and "Contamination" are in your Graveyard: Your opponent takes damage equal to the combined Level of all monsters they control x100.

 

Stalls and removes threats. I feel like this should be quick-play. Second effect is quite situational and it's not going to be easy to get off.

 

You can Normal Summon "Viral Infection" monsters without tributing. Once per turn, if you control no monsters: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; increase or decrease its Level by 1.

 

Like literally the only way to play this deck! You're probably going to lose every game you can't access this card, because it's just going to be too hard to gather tributes for your virus cards, and your level modulation effects are too slow and can't go down. Without this card, I would deem this archetype unplayable.

(I took the liberty of adding a once per turn to the second effect, for obvious reasons)

 

Add 1 "Virus Infection" monster from your Deck to your hand.

 

Rota, plain and simple. Sorta disappointed it can't do anything else, like float.

So, my final thoughts: it's too slow to make an impact on the metagame, especially with monarchs around who'll see this deck as free fodder, and Kozmo who needs only 1 or 2 slots open to otk and can also use these as tribute fodder. They need more damage dealers, because it's going to be really hard to win, more tribute generators, more consistency, and maybe a card that gives an extra normal summon.

I question how the Xyz and Synchro monsters will be summoned but I'd like to see them too.

Thanks for the fixes, really appreciate it. I shall implement them later today. 

I know the cards a little underwhelming at the moment but I have plans for several more support that will both speed up the deck and make it a whole lot more competitive with more field control and ways to swarm. I just wanted to get the initial ideas out of the way to blow off the cobwebs. My thought when first designing them was to have the switch go off when they are summon rather than normal summoned. With what you have pointed out, I'm leaning more towards that again but will see once I've made a few more cards for the set.

Ok. Several cards have been updated and changed giving the whole set a much needed boost in synergy. They now also work around continuous spells, so expect more to come surrounding them, soon.  Added the first Extra deck monster, but I'm not happy with it, so it most likely will change over the next few days.

"Aggressive Strain Viral Infection" used to bring out "Aggressive Plague Viral Infection" easily, which is a very good support.

 

"Celluar Groth" doubles the Level of a "Viral Infection" monster which makes the higher Level Viral Infection monsters to stuck on the opponent's field easily, too bad you can't double the Level to 7 for Blood Pulse.

 

"Rapid Infection" can swarm the "Viral Infection" monsters easily with a cost of a Viral Infection on opponent's field.

 

"Virus Alert" first effect fetch a Viral Infection from your Deck seems nice, but it's second effect wasn't so easy to use because if you swarmed 3 or more "Viral Infection", their Level might become higher than the card you fetch.

 

"Aggressive Plague Viral Infection" inflicts up to 3000 damage if both player's field are full, or 6000 damage if Blood Pulse is on the opponent's field, and is very easy to Summon thanks to Aggressive Strain.

 

I really wanna see more supports, especially the Synchro Monster, I'd do like to see them.
