Stumbled upon this minding my own business, and got really fired up. I don't care what anyone calls me at this point.

I'm sick of people saying stuff like "Oh, that's not what's really in the Quran!" or "That's not what it's about!"

 

The evidence is right here. As far as I know--and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong--there's no Old Testament to the Quran. 

 

Obviously, not all people who "Follow" Islam do these things, but if they don't, then they're technically not Muslim. They can pretend they are, but the fact is stuff like this is toxic and threatening.

 

And don't give me "You have to take it with a grain of salt."

 

Well, by that logic, we don't even need the book. It's like saying you can follow most laws, but you disagree with some of them so you don't follow them.

 

Rid the world of this. If you want to change Islam, awesome. Islam isn't bad, the Quran is.

Unfortunately, the Quran is the book of Islam, so until the Quran changes, Islam will be plagued by it.

There are so many interpretations though. Heck the "important" one you pointed out says fight but that doesn't necessarily mean physically. I shouldn't get too far into it because I don't know it well at all.

However i look forward to Al-Ajnabi's post to spread some light on this. It will be nice to see the other side as it were.

There are so many interpretations though. Heck the "important" one you pointed out says fight but that doesn't necessarily mean physically. I shouldn't get too far into it because I don't know it well at all.

Stop trying to tell me the same thing over and over again, I've heard it. "Interpretation" means that some people can interpret it the wrong way, and probably will. This is a book that tells people what to do. "The Quran is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from God." A revelation from God. Do you think Muslims should or should not follow Allah?

There's more ways to "fight" something than the negative ways. And maybe you keep hearing interpretation because that's the truth.

Ofc some people will interpret it badly.

That's the same for basically any book, or really form of media. There's been people who killed because of an interpretation of musician's albums.

I don't see any problem with people following Allah, or God, or whatever. Not inherently.

You're missing the point. I explicitly stated (or, as you'd like to say, I phrased in a way you could interpret) that Islam as a whole was not bad, simply the values stated in the Quran. There's no problem with being Muslim, but there are some things in the Quran that need to just...stop.

 

I think Islam CAN be the religion of peace, and that there are people who are really living a correct Islam. However, the Quran has misleading parts that take away from a perfect, peaceful Islam.
