I don't know if I can do this, so I'm asking.

 

I have a Shien, Zanji and Irou on my field, and Cunning in my hand.

I attack, my opponent uses Mirror Force. Can I use Cunning to take my Zanji (or Irou), tribute him and bring him back in defense, and then have Zanji take the hit for Shien?

Sounds legit, because your offering a monster in def to save only one of your ATK monsters. They already ruled that legal. HOWEVER, they may gag you and give you the "zombie monster" treatment as i like to call it. Meaning that you have to have another S.S. in the grave first to create the legal target, however you can reselect the card you discarded (in this case tribute.)
