The World of Sorrow

Recommended Posts

I had a lot of caffeine in my veins tonight so I got this insane need to create my own fantasy world. I have been working on it all night. I have made a map along with some basic information pertaining to kingdoms and races.

[spoiler=Map]PeQOKQ.png

This is the World of Sorrow

[spoiler=Races of Sorrow]

[spoiler=Mortae]

This world's version of humans. Average height range from 5'6 to 5'9 at age 40, at which point the Mortae stop growing with age. Only make up about 5% of the entire world's population. Legends say they were one of the most powerful races in the world of Sorrow as the extraordinarily powerful Dausolean Empire. The Empire reportedly stretched all across the land of Sorrow, and enslaved all non-Mortae races. As they gained more power, they began to forsake their creator, the Goddess Darla, which angered her immensely. In response, Darla caused rain to pour over the bulk of the continent for 15 years, and on the 15th year, unleashed a massive flood that sunk 3/4's of the Dausolean Empire under water. A combined force of Fare and Reshi eventually drove the Mortae back, as thousands of Mortae who survived the flooding, or weren't at the flood's epicenter, were found and killed in a genocide that lasted decades until the Mortae retreated to the farthest reaches of Sorrow. Secluding themselves from the world for their sins.

[spoiler=Fare]Mortae-like in appearance except for glaring differences. For one, their ear lobes stretch all the way down to their chin, and their eyes are pure white with no pupils. Most Fare regard their ear lobes with high esteem, and any piercing of them, or removal of them, is punishable by death. To desecrate the ears of a Fare, whether self-inflicted or not, is considered treason of the highest order under Pander-Dalian and Casteronian Law. Fare are the second most populous race in all of Sorrow.

[spoiler=Reshi]Humanoid in size and structure. They are notable for their blood-red skin color, and lack of noses or ears. There are merely holes on both sides where ears would be. And their noses are simply two slits where their noses would be. Despite this, Reshi have acute sense of hearing and smelling, and are talented hunters. Reshi are Omnivores by nature. Reshi have an extreme dislike for the Fare, as the two races have been mortal enemies for centuries. In fact, the only recorded time they were allies was during their resistance to the occupation of the Dausolean Empire, as both races united to defeat the rising Empire.

[spoiler=Derks]The Derks are almost identical to the Reshi, except for the fact that their skin color is an extremely dark Purple, and all of their teeth are sharpened as fangs. The origins of the Derks are disputed depending on who you talk to. The Reshi Kingdoms teach that the Derks were once Reshi; a collection of Tarnibore's worst criminals, who escaped their prisons and fled to the mountains. The Derks teach it differently. The Derks claim that they were made up of the poor and sick within the Tarnibore kingdom, and rebelled against a neglectful government, they quickly lost against the larger Tarnibore forces, and fled to the mountains of Techi. Regardless of the truth to either story, centuries of living in caves has turned their skin an extremely dark purple, and eating as scavengers has caused their teeth to change drastically, being made up of fangs rather than normal teeth. Despite their almost savage nature, and revealing clothing, the Derks are extremely intelligent and are good friends with the Fare races, who find a common enemy in the Reshi. The Derks have deep hatred for the Reshi that spans centuries. The Derks are primarily carnivores, as they hate fruits and vegetables. Nevertheless, their cooking is highly respected in Fare chef circles, with noted Fare Chef Calip-Dotch calling the Derk cuisine "Some of the finest in all of Sorrow."

Not as good as my totally amazing maps but pretty good. The fog intrigues me.

Looks like you put a good amount of thought into this, that's nice. Only gotta remember that there should be some reason for the race separation, and the separate races in general. Have they always been separate, and did they just develop separately, or was there some kind of split? I see there's some cultural differences as well which is nice, more is better but I'm sure this isn't all there is there.

I like what I see so far.

And obligatory...

While most Sorrow scholars are not 100% in agreement over what started these ideas, the generally accepted explanation was that there was originally a universal peace characterized by an alliance among all of the races (The Derks did not exist during this time).

The year this map was christened was 11,441 5th Age. Time is recorded in a different manner, and is dependent on "Ages" split into important time periods. Scholars are in universal agreement that Sorrow could possibly be billions of years old, but recorded history (as "recorded" as it could possibly be) only goes back as far as 71,441 years before the christening of this map.

The modern Sorrowan Calendar was moved to the year 0 on the year of the flood that sunk the Dausolean Empire. As such, the age is defined, not only by the number year, but by the Age.

These are the current recorded Ages in Sorrowan history.

Age of Zarvat: Origin-50,000 B.F. (Before Flood). This age is characterized as the age of creation, when Zarvat established the pantheon and helped build the world.

Age of Mitani: 50,000 B.F.-41,000 B.F. This is the age that is defined by the awakening of the races. This is also the age in which all of the races lived together in harmony.

Age of Fardan: 41,000 B.F.-18,000 B.F. This is the age characterized by the rise of the Fare population and the eventual feud that was birthed between the Fare and Reshi. It is unknown exactly what caused this feud.

Age of Darla: 18,000 B.F.-1 A.F. (After Flood). This is the age known for the extraordinary rise in population of the Mortae, and the eventual rise of the Dausolean Empire which would eventually take over 83% of all of Sorrow. The Age of Darla officially ended on the year 1 A.F. One year after the flood that sunk most of the Dausolean Empire.

The Age of Kharn is the current Age that is lived on the date this map was christened. It started in 2 A.F. and has not yet ended. It is called this because of the rise in the Reshi population, and the power of the Reshi Trinity.

What are the laws against/for sexual acts? I must have details.

Depends.

The Fare and Reshi Empire's have extremely strict sodomy laws. Homosexuality is completely illegal in 5 Kingdoms. In Techi, sex is just another part of instinct, something that the Derks embrace. Generally the Fare don't care what the Derks do, only what their own kind do. The Reshi oppose such beliefs that the Derks hold, but are in no mood to go starting a war with the warrior bread Derks over such a trivial matter. The Mortae also enjoy a sexually liberated belief system, but have fatal penalties for the crime of rape (Which in the laws of the Mortae communities is worse than murder).

Forgot to mention that the Mitanil also believe in Homosexuality, hence their dislike towards Fare customs.
