Throwback Attack (written)

The idea came to me a while back. The only thing that may be wrong with it is that it could be too OP. Please give me your thoughts.

 

"Throwback Attack"

Normal Trap Card

 

Effect: When your opponent targets 1 of your monsters for an attack: Target 1 monster in your Graveyard that was destroyed as a result of battle and sent there during your opponent's last Battle Phase; Special Summon 1 "Throwback Token" whose Level, Attribute, Type, ATK, and DEF are the same as the targeted monster, and if you do, change the attack target to it and perform damage calculation. Destroy the "Throwback Token" during the End Phase.

It's not that overpowered. It needs a few things:

  • A monster in your Graveyard
    • That was destroyed by battle
    • Last turn
  • Your opponent must be attacking
    • And it's attacking a monster you control

With all these conditions it's very difficult to get it to activate properly. The "destroyed by battle" bit already confounds things a bit, because this means the only monsters qualified for this card are usually cards that are already pretty weak and won't be able to stand up to and beat a lot of other threats that your opponent will still have to attack. "Last turn" further locks out several candidates - your opponent can avoid attacking on the previous turn to turn this card into a dead card or just curbstomp you during a single Battle Phase to end the game anyway.

 

Furthermore, your opponent must also be attacking a monster you control, so you can't even use it in a pinch to save your LP.

 

It's an okay concept held back by an excessively complex activation condition.

How would this fix do?

 

Effect: Activate this card when your opponent targets 1 of your monsters for an attack: Target 1 monster in your Graveyard that was destroyed by battle or your opponent's card effect; Special Summon 1 "Throwback Token" whose Level, Attribute, Type, ATK, and DEF are the same as the targeted monster, and if you do, change the attack target to it and perform damage calculation. Destroy the "Throwback Token" during the End Phase.
