leafbladie
Post taken from my reddit post, and edited slightly: Inspired by Rank10YGO’s Legacy of the Worthless, this week we have Venoms! Calling Venom’s an archetype, while technically true by the rules of what an archetype is defined as, really gives the wrong impression. They’re basically a vanilla, 3 variations of the same monster, a pretty cool beatstick that can revive after being destroyed by battle, and the OG Apoqliphort Towers-esque effect monster, that has a built in win condition. I’m going to level with you right here, I had no idea how to tackle this when going in. Even now I’m a bit nervous about these cards. I had an easier time making legitimate Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth support than this. Even when I did get an idea, I wasn’t sure if it was a good one, and that’s because I have no idea what Venoms are supposed to be. I mean obviously they’re control focused on infecting the opponent’s monsters to cripple their ATK, but that’s it. Venoms have basically no relation to their boss monsters. You’d be better of building a Worm deck if you wanted to get out Vennominon, not even joking. So anyway, since I’ve been obsessed with Buster Blader recently, and that’s kind of a control deck, I thought maybe I could base it around that. Anyway, with that in mind, the new cards are focused on infecting the opponent’s monster and with the use of the Xyz Monsters, changing them into Reptiles, which you can use a variant of Super Poly to go into two new Fusions, or Starve Venom Fusion Dragon for the epic meme cred. One of the Fusions is capable of giving some nasty burn damage to your opponent a la Venom Burn, and another being a retrain of Vennominon the King of Poisonous Snakes, that is unaffected by the effects of Reptile monsters. Obviously this isn’t as strong as the Buster Blader lock, but it’s a lot more consistent, and I didn’t want to completely rip of BB, so that’s why. More stuff to note, the new main deck monsters are relatively weak, and 2 have effects upon being sent to the Graveyard, anymore and they’d ban Snake Rain. I thought about including ways for them to put Venom Counters on the monsters during your opponent’s turn, but felt it a bit too strong, so I left that to the Spells and Traps. Speaking of, I also included a few ways to search out the the Venom Spells and Snake Deity Traps too, nothing insanely broken, just simple methods, like retraining the field spell, and adding in a search card whose cost is removing Venom Counters from your opponent’s monster. Anyway, as always, please tell me what you think, and if the archetype has any problems, and needs to be buffed or weakened. I will admit, that while I don’t think it’s my best work, I did put a lot of work into it, and want to improve it, rather than just shelve it. So without further adieu, the cards: [spoiler=Main Deck Monsters (4 Cards)]Venom RattlesnakeReptile-Type/DARK/Level 4/ATK 1300/DEF 800If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send 1 “Venom” monster from your Deck to the Graveyard.
