LotW "Amazoness" Retrains (23 Cards)

Wow, I’ve made it pretty far on these LotW archetype, already covering 7 of the 14 archetypes that Rata has reviewed so far. This week, we look at an archetype that actually has a lot of potential, and not to mention some THICC girls: “Amazoness”.

“Amazoness” are as the name implies, an archetype of EARTH Warrior-Type monsters that are battle focused. There are actually a lot of good ideas behind the effects of the monsters, and honestly, I think if the ideas of them were taken to the more fast paced state of today’s metagame, Amazoness would function as a pretty decent Rank 4 Spam archetype.

So after retooling all of their effects (except Swordswoman, who’s actually pretty good), giving a few of them floating effects when they’re destroyed by battle, and adapting their 2 Fusion from the anime while also giving them some nice Rank 4’s, I’m feeling pretty good about this archetype. I also updated their Field Spell to fit the more battle focused nature of the deck, combining it with Amazoness Fighting Spirit, and some other forms of protection so they can continue to fight.

Anyway, here they are, I hope you enjoy them, and please make sure to leave any thoughts and ways to help fix them below:

Blowpiper's first effect would be a little powerful in terms of speed, as it basically not only protects you from an attack but leaves an opponent's monster probably vulnerable, but the requirement of another Amazoness fixes that. The destruction effect seems a little weak on first read, but the permanegation is probably at least somewhat worth it.

Sage's effect makes me wish that the above card didn't have a battle destruction restriction, but the lack of HOPT and the possible strength of it makes it fine, especially as this card doesn't target. The Armades effect giver is a neat addition, and helps Amazons in today's meta.

Archer makes me think that self-destruction will become a theme in this archetype. It has a nice burn effect in any case, along with removal. I hope to see some monsters that trigger on this destruction.

Trainee synergizes very well with tiger, which is nice, and the battle destruction effect does combine very well with the whole battle theme you are building up, which is a rather untouched theme in archetypes today, I must say. Destruction by battle searches tiger, no HOPT is okay but I do wish the self-destruction had been a thing.

Fighter is a nice intermediary for spamming, especially as a face-up wall. Nice retrain.

Ah, more battle effects. I would be rather unhappy with their prominence, but I do like the support you've given it via other cards. It's a shame that's how most of them activate, especially with destruction as a cost effects you have within the archetype, but probs still safer this way.

Tiger can be a huge beatstick, and what better thing to give a beatstick than force attacking? I wish the Summoning had some sort of OPT though, as if you open 3 of them you can Normal 1 (or even another Amazoness if you have it) and then have at least 3 2.7K beatsticks.

Paladin gives a nice ATK boost, but the last effect seems a bit slow, especially as you are destroying your Amazoness' with your own card effects. Perhaps just when it is destroyed?

Queen is...wow. It's beautiful. While the rest of the archetype seems to be Level 4 spam, this card is balanced by the mere fact that it doesn't fit into Level 4. It has an easy means of Summoning, and it can destroy by battle to search. Lovely. Can't say enough about this card.

Village helps with the battle effects, but as for the when an Amazoness is destroyed...shame it doesn't work with the other cards in this archetype, or else we could have some more potential plays, because the other monsters destroy for a cost, whereas this won't activate if that happens. Perhaps just say "If an "Amazoness" is destroyed:", in any case it helps with the spamming to an extent.

The shuffling for the Fusion is a great idea, as it can really eat into hand/field advantage, especially as Queen also requires materials from the Graveyard. However, I don't like the lack of HOPT on the main effect combined with the fact that it is both recyclable (even though that has HOPT) and it can use the Graveyard very easily. Perhaps change the HOPT to "each"?

Scouts should probably say "monsters", but that's a small nitpick. In any case, I am not too happy with complete and utter protection with no cost. Maybe I am looking too far into it with the fact that it doesn't have battle protection, but then again most of your cards works with destruction by battle. Not only does it give protection, but it gives a search. Perhaps nerf the first effect a little, but leave the second?

Shamanism spams with no OPT, as it is basically a fast CotH with a cost. Kind of glad that you don't have effects which activate on destruction as cost now, but if you did, this could easily change. Not much to complain about here.

Spellcaster is too UP and situational to be worth running, especially as it does very little in the Graveyard. No need for it all.

Nothing to say about Heirloom, other than it's beautiful and nothing should be changed.

Archers' last clause should probably have a "this turn" near the end, but really does help with the battle clauses, both with Amazoness' who destroy by battle or are destroyed by battle. Probably should remove the effect negation or the ATK loss, as it might be a bit much,

Willpower is a nice variation on CotH. Good card, no other comment.

Dramatic Rescue is a bit weaker than most of the other cards, being highly situational, even it does help spam a little. Probably not a good idea to open up where it Summons from to balance it, as you have other cards which do it better. Perhaps expand the condition a little in some way? (I honestly have no idea how to do that)

Queen's Pawn combos extremely well with the rest of the monsters, and allows for more easily spamming, and is balanced by being slowed because it is a continuous trap. Nice!

Liger is a nice retooling, with a constant ATK loss working and the massive ATK boost being a remake of Tiger and the attack protection comboing nicely with the rest of the archetype. I must say, despite the occassional weak or strong card, these work really well together, and are well designed...but I just realized that if you Summon 2 Ligers your opponent can't attack you, and if you summon empress they have even less outs. Perhaps say "except for "Amazoness Liger".

Empress gives even more damage protection, and just protection in general. The introduction of piercing is really wanted, as the rest of the archetype doesn't really touch on that. Just a normal support card.

Recruiter is a nice RotA/KotFI for EARTH Warriors, which include Madolche, Heroics, and many other low-Tier decks (and this archetype, wouldn't you know) Recruiter doesn't combo with the effects that destroy at the cost, but on the plus side it has no OPT and can certainly combo with Tiger or most Amazoness' for searching.

Shaman...is semi useless. Shamanism fills that niche, even if it is a bit slow, and recruiter does the searching effect. Yes, I know, Shaman/Shamanism, but perhaps you could use this Xyz to help boost the archetype's offensive capabilities?

Really nice remake of the archetype, with some really good cards in there. This archetype would certainly intrude onto the meta much more that the archetype currently does (altho tbf that wouldnt be hard), and, despite a flawed card here and there, are really well-made. Good job!
