The Dark Sanctuary ruling

Recommended Posts

Hi

I bought the new supporting cards for Destiny Board and the hesitation invades me.

Dark sanctuary

If a "Spirit Message" card would be placed on your field with "Destiny Board", you can Special Summon it as a Normal Monster (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) instead, and if you do, it is unaffected by card effects, except "Destiny Board", and cannot be targeted for attacks, but does not prevent your opponent from attacking you directly. When an opponent's monster declares an attack: Toss a coin and if the result is heads, negate the attack, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to half the current ATK of that monster your opponent controls.

Destiny Board

When this card and all 4 "Spirit Message" cards with different names are placed on your field, you win the DuelOnce per turn, during your opponent's End Phase: Place 1 "Spirit Message" card from your hand or Deck in your Spell & Trap Zone face-up, in the proper order of "I", "N", "A", and "L". When any "Spirit Message" card or "Destiny Board" you control leaves the fieldsend all "Spirit Message" cards and "Destiny Board" you control to the Graveyard.

1) Can i Tribute the Message? For example i summon "Summoned Skull" tributing the message "I"

2) Can the message attack? It's a normal monster, isn't it?

3) If I use "Spirit barrier", Can I receive damage?

Thank you

1. Yes, they can be Tributed. But it will pops your "Destiny Board" and other "Spirit Messages" if you do that.

2. Of course, it was treated as a monster, so they can attack. but no one want them attack, as their ATK is 0.

3. Yes, you will receive the damage if your result of the coin you tossed was not Heads while you have "Dark Sanctuary" on the field. But "Dark Sanctuary" already have effects that protects your "Spirit Messages" from being attacked or affected by card effect, so "Spirit Barrier" is useless.

I think the OP refers to when the opponent's monster is attacking directly, which Dark Sanctuary allows it to do so. In that case, no, you shouldn't take damage since you are controlling a monster, fulfilling the condition of "Spirit Barrier".
