Field Spell Card

Effect: When this card is activated: Banish 1 Link 3 or higher Link Monster you control. If you do, while this card is face-up, all Main Monster Zones become Extra Monster Zones.

This is supposed to be used to allow open plays with Extra Deck monsters (Pendulums...) for both players. Essentially, this card reverts the gameplay to the pre-Link era where Extra Deck could be Summoned anywhere.

Not perfectly to pre-link era since you can now control 6 (or 7) monsters but close enough. Banishing a Link monster, especially 3 or higher (although you'd probably use Gofu or Tokens) is fair enough.

It also adds a nice dynamic for your opponent:

  • Do I pop that field spell?
  • It benefits me as well but my opponent is going to go off
  • Would my cosmic cyclone be better used for his/her other backrow?

One interesting thing about this card is that it has cost to be able to play it. However, I believe with your current wording you would not have to have a link 3 monster out and it would just fissile since the banishment is part of the effect, not the cost, but still get the field effect.

I think you want something more like this:

  • This card can only be activated while you control a link 3 or higher monster. When this card is activated, target 1 Link 3 or higher Link Monster you control: Banish it, then if it leaves the field by this card's effect all Main Monster Zones become Extra Monster Zones while this card is face up on the field, otherwise destroy this card.

I have to disagree with this card for a couple reasons

  • If you have a Link 3 monster, you do not care about Extra monster zones. You're going a -2 just so you can use your zones, but unless you're using a really niche combo Deck (and for some reason would rather not use Link monsters even though they're FTK central these days) there's really no point. The Decks that would want Extra Monster Zones aren't going to be Decks running Link 3 monsters just to fulfill a cost of a Field Spell that will make them -2.
  • As long as Decode Talker and other generic Link 3 monsters exist, this card is irrelevant.  You should be getting 1-3 Extra Monster Zones just from a Link 3 on its own. Banishing it to get 2-3 extra zones when you don't even have the resources to fill them all that turn. You also have to consider that your opponent benefits from this for absolutely nothing. This card is incredibly underpowered.
  • It doesn't do anything else. Field Spells typically do more than 1 thing these days. They can usually range from 2-4 effects, with some exceptions like the original Field Spells and stuff like Clear World.

My Question for you is this: What Decks would run this card? In your future design, before getting any ideas, make sure you know what Decks to design around so you know how good your card(s) should be. Otherwise, you might overbalance it to the point that the card becomes incapable of supporting the Decks it was supposed to help.

My tips are, make it more generic, make it better, add some effects, total it into something interesting for Decks to play with.
