zepheris
In case you don't know, there's a 3 card series with "swarm of" in their names. each one has effects that activate when flipped face up, and you can flip them face down, once per turn. Locusts kills 1 backrow, scarabs kills 1 monster, and crows kills one from the hand. Putting aside crows, which is unusable due to being a tribute monster, besides also being released a decade after the other two, the swarm cards, alongside des lacoonda made for a fun control deck way back when. Thus, support. Firstly, the field spell, because the first step to making an old archetype viable has to be the field spell. Seven Years of PlaguefieldWhen this card is activated, you can special summon 1 "Swarm of" monster from your deck in face down defense position. Once per chain (Quick effect) You can flip summon 1 "Swarm of" monster you control. You can only flip summon each monster once per turn by this effect. You can only activate 1 Seven years of plague per turn. This card alone fixes so many problems of the old series. It allows the monsters to make disruptions, gives you field setup, and makes each monster much, much more valuable. Given how important des lacoonda was to the strategy of the old deck, I should make an archetypal version of that monster, which makes him usable with SYoP. I also made it insect/dark, and gave him slightly better stats for thematic consistency, not as a buff. Swarm of Scorpionsatk 750def 750level 3insect/darkOnce per turn: you can change this card to face down defense position. When this card is flip summoned: Draw 1 card. Finally, a fusion monster, because I can Swarm of the PlagueAtk 2000Def 2000level 6Swarm of Locusts + Swarm of ScarabsThis card can only be fusion summoned by sending the above cards from your hand or side of the field to the graveyard and cannot be summoned in other ways. Once per turn, during either player's turn, you can change this card to face down defense position. When this card is flip summoned: banish 2 random cards your opponent controls. That's it, a boss monster. Again, helps with disruption, makes up for the omni-present targeting and destruction protection, and makes the archetype not completely suck. Still nowhere near competitive, but it might be a decently fun deck to play, similar to new cyberdarks not to mention, seven years of plague alongside scorpions can form a mini-engine for rank 3 or link spam decks that don't use field spells, such as BA.Activate plague, summon scorpions, use effect to flip scorpions, either use scorpions as material or use it's effect to flip itself FD, which allows you to draw yet another card during the opponent's turn. I don't know how useful it'd be, but it'd be fun at the very least. I just realized this now, but I could have just written "or Des Lacoonda" on seven years, and I wouldn't have needed to make scorpions...
Guest Yairnet
I, personally, find Flip Summoning quite boring, but somewhat effective. Where's "Swarm of Scarabs"?
