JonRich
Yokais and the Dance of Illusion In the mists between worlds, where twilight devours the border between matter and dream, dwell the Yokais — spirits born of fear, worship, and wonder. Neither fully divine nor entirely monstrous, they exist on the edge of perception: messengers, punishers, deceivers, and guardians of the hidden order.    Arcane Pages of the Spira Fatea Codex   Kitsune – Graceful Yokai of Mirage "Born from the shimmer of dusk and the silent laughter of foxfire, the Kitsune walks between lies and truth. Her tail is ink, her gaze a riddle. Those who see her face never quite remember it — only the burning question it left behind."  Oni – Brutal Yokai of the Slope "Roaring from stone-laden mountain passes and hollow caves, the Oni is wrath given form. He is judge and beast, feared by the wicked and feared still more by the innocent who lie to themselves. His club never misses twice."  Tengu – Whispering Yokai of Crossroads "Above the trees, where one breathes dreams instead of air, the Tengu waits with folded wings. He is a trickster monk, a silent blade, and a voice that speaks only in questions. He appears only when you choose between paths — or when you stray from them."  Raiju – Heavenly Yokai of Lightning "Coiled within thunderclouds and cast from the breath of gods, the Raiju descends as a feral storm. Its fur crackles with divine judgment, its form constantly shifting — a beast of lightning that strikes not only the body, but the soul’s illusion of safety."  Kappa – Slippery Yokai of Offerings "Dwelling in shaded ponds and forgotten riverbeds, the Kappa guards ancient rites with a wry smirk. Courteous when respected, cruel when mocked, it values form above force — and drowns the careless in puzzles deeper than any tide."  Onryou – Mournful Yokai of Revenge "Born from unspoken betrayal and deaths left unwept, the Onryou is a curse given voice. Draped in sorrow, she appears in dreams and broken mirrors, demanding remembrance, retribution — or silence. Even gods lower their gaze when she speaks."  Oumagatoki – Twilight of the Spirits "At the hour between dog and wolf — twilight — Oumagatoki appears. It is not a spirit, but the breath between them. Wreathed in shimmering paper charms and fractured light, it guides the return of all that should not stay. No blade can pierce it; no eye can hold it still. It is the echo of every Spirit, the horizon of their truth, and the veil between illusion and destiny." Edited June 29 by JonRich
