not naze
Recently, I saw a video on youtube about the Herald archetype. While detailing the cards, at one point the guy points out that there is an Extra Deck monster for every summoning mechanic in this archetype, except a Fusion monster, which seemed a bit odd to me. The Herald archetype is primarily Ritual-oriented, which is the oldest mechanic along with the Fusion one. It's weird that it got both a XYZ, Synchro, and Link monster before a Fusion one... So i gave myself the mission to design one, along with its own fusing card. I've never actually played the Herald cards, but I always liked them thematically, so I did my best with what I understood of them. About the artworks: if you saw my older topics, you know that I'm not an artist whatsoever etc etc so be kind about it. Since my last big archetype about the cardinal virtues, I decided to stop using AI tools for good (both for creative and ethical reasons). So I've been trying some new tools to design them. Today, I played for the first time with Paint3D to make the monster; and used Photofiltre to make the background, and also to make the trap card (they're just montages using free-to-use pictures I found on internet). Anyway, hope you'll like them ! Here's Herald of Ultraviolet Light. The reason behind the name is pretty obvious: Herald cards are themed around Lights, and since Fusion cards are purple, the link with UV was a no-brainer. It is a lvl6 Fairy monster, with 600atk and 1000def just like the other Extra Deck Herald monsters. And it have to be fusion summoned using 1 Herald monster and 1 Fairy monster. As for the effect, Herald monsters have that theme going on where most of them can negate effects by discarding Fairy monsters from the hand. Orange light can negate a monster effect, Green light a spell effect, and Purple light a trap. Herald of Arc Light and of Mirage Light can both negate a Spell or a Trap. Herald of Perfection can negate a spell, trap or monster, and Herald of Ultimateness can negate any effect, or any Special Summon. It made sense to me that Herald of UV Light, which is designed to be an Extra Deck Herald, should negate Extra Deck monster effects or Summon ! Which it can do by Tributing itself, or another Fairy monster from the hand (which can be used to trigger Diviner of the Herald's effect for example). It also has a second effect to support the Ritual monsters of its archetype. When it's in the GY, you can banish it to use it as a material for a Ritual Summon (which can be used as the sole material for Herald of Perfection summon, or as half of the material for Herald of Ultimateness). This card is pretty straightforward, so I don't have much to explain. It's a Trap Card, so you can Fusion Summon during your opponent's turn, which could come in handy since you could for example: Ritual Summon Herald of Perfection, use its effect to negate an effect, and when you don't have any Fairy monsters left in your hand to use Herald of Perfection's effect; activate the Trap Card to summon Herald of UV Light using Herald of Perfection, and get another negate by Tributing UV Light. The fact that the fusing card is a Trap Card, coupled with UV Light's effect that can activate either by Tributing a card in your hand or by Tributing itself, enables a lot of different ways to play these cards, which makes them pretty adaptive and flexible. Finally, this card has a second effect that allows you to banish it from the GY to shuffle back a banished Fairy monster in your Deck. This could allow you to shuffle back UV Light in the Extra Deck after using its second effect of banishing itself as a Ritual material, but it could also allow you to shuffle back another card banished by Herald of the Arc Light's effect instead, for example. Anyway, that's it folks. I hope you liked those cards as much as I do. I'm pretty happy with both the way I designed the effects and the artworks, but any criticism is welcome, and I would be glad to improve them even more.
