I designed Rhodellanyx as a predatory Dragon boss rather than a generic negate-heavy powerhouse. The artwork gives off the impression of an ancient apex hunter: wide wings, lunging posture, huge claws, and a feral roar. Because of that, I wanted the card to revolve around hunting and overpowering prey instead of passive control.

Its Special Summon condition lets it appear when the opponent already controls a strong monster, which reflects the idea that Rhodellanyx emerges when there is worthy prey to hunt. Its summon effect weakens a target by 1000 ATK and suppresses its effects during the Battle Phase, representing Rhodellanyx overwhelming its prey physically rather than through magical lockdown.

The destruction effect at the start of the Damage Step only works when attacking a monster with lower current ATK, which was intentional. Rhodellanyx is not meant to be unconditional removal — it is meant to be a hunting Dragon that tears apart weakened targets. The second attack effect reinforces that predatory momentum, allowing it to move from one kill to the next.

Overall, the goal was to create a boss monster that feels savage, mobile, and dangerous in combat, while still remaining interactive and thematically tied to the artwork.

If your opponent controls a monster with 2000 or more ATK, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by banishing 1 Dragon monster from your GY. You can only Special Summon “Rhodellanyx, Primordial Dragon of the Sky Hunt” once per turn this way.

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; it loses 1000 ATK until the end of this turn, also its effects are negated during the Battle Phase.

At the start of the Damage Step, if this card attacks an opponent’s monster with lower current ATK than this card: You can destroy that monster.

Once per turn, if this card destroys a monster by battle or by its own effect: It can make a second attack on a monster in a row.
