HelioSpark
I'm going to be frank. We are in a global crisis. The price of gas is driving up and up, and nobody seems to know how to stop it. Families are having a hard time even buying food for their families, and its no suprise after they may have paid $70 to fill up thei tank. The price of oil is pushing other prices up as well. In America, Bush has suggested that we start more offshore drilling. What he doesn't realize is that it could take up to 10 years for new oil refineries and barges to become operational and start getting oil. OPEC has plenty of oil, but is refusing to loosen their firm grip on the amount released, to keep demand high. My question is, what do you think should be done to ease prices, and to aid people financially. EDIT: This topic apeared like 5 days after I posted it XD
2sick4u
Wow.. You know.. I never thought people could of existed for thousands of years without oil. Mind blowing. This isn't a global crisis; It's mother earth kicking you in the crutch and telling you to be self reliant.Theres a convenience store on every main road, a school near every suburb, and freaking hell, there's a gas company every 200 Ft.Why would we need oil? Don't complain if you're guzzling it, and not saving it. Go Amish if you think it's so bad.Pfft.2sick~
Sixty
I'll agree that gas prices are higher than a kid sniffing a whiteboard marker... ... but there's nothing we can do about it.

2sick4u
Lol.This thread got funny.Look at it, It started with people introducing alternatives to oil, and then static comes in, says something pro (Real pro.) And now everyones doing the whole "OIL=WAR!!" thing. Fun.Seriously though; I believe if the world decided one Dominant oil company, a merge of all the rest; it would leave oil less starved, more resourced, and less profit oriented. Better for everyone. That, along with war, or..I might just get an electric car instead.People really need to sacrifice quality for quantity..Eh. The damage has been done. =/.2sick~

Cin
What the earth takes millions if not billions of years to make (with rebalance after unbalance)....we take a blink of an eye (in terms of the Earth's lifespan....heck we've probably not even been here a blink of an eye). Plus we've more or less reached the peak of our oil supply (maybe less than 15 years until we reach peak according to some scientists.) I'm still not believing apparently Gordon Brown was trying to get OPEC countries to help invest in renewable resources. The issue with Geothermal energy is how long it would produce for....the only place with a constant supply is Hawaii.....under the volcanoes (it sits on a hotspot) End of the world comments are usually ridicious anyway.....even if it might end up before the Sun fries us. Bombing Iraq would solve nothing...we've barely discovered any Mega Giant oil fields since the 40s, and we've had a marked decline even in the Giant oil fields since the 70s. (Source: National Geography, Jun 08 ), we're just running out. And if we start looking what to stop us mining under Antarctica? (apparently there's good reserves under there, but how would we get at it....)We are trying to do something except we're doing it too slowly, way too slow to correct the damage, and doing the damage too quick for the earth to rebalance. Just as long as we don't turn to biofuels....in our attempts.
「tea.leaf」
The world can ease off bio-diesel development first. That stuff is just a waste of food, and it's not anymore cleaner or efficient than regular petrol. If the governments would let that go, I'm sure food prices would slip a bit, since less of it is going into the tanks of those SUVs. Secondly, the world should look further into the development of electrical cars again, like Tesla motors. They have developed a very high performance engine capable of large ranges that runs on a lithium-ion battery (I think, not sure) that only takes 3 hours to charge fully. However, realize that change isn't going to come anytime soon, simply because that is the way of humans. Progress is slow, and even more so when profits are involved. They're not going to increase oil supplies because the vendors and investors want to keep their pockets loaded. Ironic thing is, Exxon had to sell off it's chain of petrol stations because they were no longer profitable. Apparently, the profit margin is so tight nowadays that it is no longer economically wise to maintain operation of petrol stations. I wonder what will happen next...
