Same Sex Marriage

Recommended Posts

I'm for same sex marriages, probably because I believe in Love Knows No Gender, we should be promoting marriage even if it is same sex couples, they still love each other so why not give them the same rights as heterosexual couples.

I'm for homosexual couples adopting children, after all they'll still love the child as much as an heterosexual couple and the child's needs must go above anything.

A homosexual couple would be just as loving and caring to a child as a heterosexual couple wold. In fact, there is a girl in my school who has 2 lesbian moms, and she is the nicest person I know. She is perfectly happy with her situation. Like I said before, children growing up with gay parents are likely to be much more tolerant of other peoples differences, a type of people we need more of in the world.

Personally, Love is something that's more overrated than anything else. It's an emotion, not a god given right, like most people describe it as here.

So, why do gay's need to get married anyway?

Because, to put it simply, it makes them feel normal.

Most gay's want marriage for equality, to prove a point, as if their sexual orientation is some sort of debate. Oh, wait. -_-".

I can honestly say, there would be more anarchy from legalizing same sex marriages then leaving it illegal..

According to Census, and other national surveys, 33% of the population listed themselves as "Chistrian/Catholic."

Although more than 33% of the world may well be Gay,

I really doubt they are.

Which means.. It should remain illegal, since the current world order is all about "Pleasing the majority."

Just my opinion, though. =].

Do you want attention or something?

Seriously, shut up, go read a book, and come back with a half decent I.Q.

Lets look at examples of people that I've found out are gay in this forum:

Dj Orisis: I happen to be gay, so my stand point on this is obvious.

You: I"M GAY!! IS THERE A PROBALEM, NOOBLATORS!?.

(Disclaimer: This may or may not of happened in the context presented.)

Nobody cares, we're debating if it's in grounds for them to be married.

This is the reply I get -_-".

I am against the adoption of children by gay couples. In my opnion, the upbringing of a child by two people of the same gender can pose a variety of problems. It is necessary to have a father figure, and equally vital to have a mother at any given point of a child's growth. It's not about being natural according to our psychological notion of normality, it's about a biological imperative, if you can call it that way. Having a mother is a necessity in early stages of life, and a man cannot play that role adequately. I'm not saying it's absolutely impossible to raise a healthy child in this environment, I'm aware that it can happen, but most of the time it's an unfair risk to put the child through, and gay couples should bear that in mind if adopting is legal in their country.

Not only that, although this is dependant on outside factors: the world is a b*tch and kids are evil, heartless monsters when it comes to making fun of their peers. It can be traumatic for a child when her (hm, gender issue. is "child" masculine or feminine?) friends learn that her parents are a homossexual couple - she will be made fun of to death, and will go through all those problems of rejection we all know happen in middle school/high school for one reason or another. This is arguable and dependant on the education of children, but generally it goes like this.

if it illegal then of course they wont. Also what goddamn right says that gays can't have children but women who aren't capable of giving birth can? true the kid might not have a father/mother in his life but yet i'm sure that they will take good care of him/her. plus it's not like there wont be a man/women in their life.

As for that, if people like you don't discourage it then more people would do that and therefore the general public wouldn't be shocked and discriminate that plus bullies = dumb and dumb people should die.

Maybe for some, or from a different perspective, gays want to have marriage to be normalized.

But the reality is, you get a couple of perks from being actually "married". The only one I can think of is that how a spouse is given permission to visit their spouse in the hospital without familial consent. Before gay marriage, gays could not afford that opportunity. This is inequality and discrimination, period.

Note: I paraphrased that situation beyond belief...I'm sure it's region dependent and stuff, but that hospital IS a reality.

Oh, and about "pleasing the majority".....hehe...that's a...tricky topic, lol. Your opinion's yours...but I have to admit, I'm not even sure about that.

[sorry if the topic of adoption is offtopic, but]

In regards to the biological perspective that you, among others, express in how gay couples should not be allowed to adopt (or raise children at all, I'm assuming?)

Well, personally, I relate the situation to the situation of a single parenting. I mean, if you're fine with a single parent raising a child, there shouldn't be a difference in having two parents of the same sex. Just...more help, I guess.

Yes, I imagine that either situation (gay parents or single parent) poses risks to the child, I would contend (and this is primarily speculative on my part) that the differences of risk between a standard heterosexual parenting environment and a single sex parenting environment is quite minimal. I don't have too much detail on the literature, but I believe that there's some substantiation of that a dysfunctional environment would occur at nearly the same frequency under both situations.

In terms of the latter explanation dealing with environmental factors, ie social rejection, I would have to agree. But I think that using that reason to make deliberations over whether or not something should be allowed is a bit misleading.

Obviously, the abrupt legalization of something could cause chaos. Like alcohol for instance. I don't care how many european examples that people cite, if the alcohol drinking age in america was lowered abruptly one day, there would be a temporary chaos because many young people would be overexcited, I would think.

But dealing with something like homosexuality, we are living in a more and more progressive environment, and even though kids would still be picked on for possibly having samesex parents, I'm not quite so sure that the world out there today would be as unaccepting as you suggest. Of course, this depends where you are in America...of course, or any region you might live. It's all dependent.

But I think if you're relying on the principle of the matter that gay couples should be allowed to adopt, and in a vacuum, you've already decided that that's the right thing to allow, then that should affect the legality of it, unless there could potentially be crazy chaos, as with alcohol.

But even that argument doesn't convince me entirely. A law is a stepping stone. Kids grow up in the face of those laws. Yes, kids are impacted by the sort of parents they have, but if the kids right now grow up in a more progressive environment regarding those issues, then their kids will follow. It's difficult to map out a direct cause and effect, but the reality is, by allowing marriage, and additionally adoption, you're bending societal norms to allow for more tolerance of such phenomena.

Oh, and as an example, I'm sure mixed children are picked on, but they were picked on a lot more back then. But aren't you glad that interracial marraige is allowed? (at least, I hope you agree...lol)

A gay couple and a single parent are two different things.

Even though it may seem unjust to determine whether or not they can adopt based on the social problems the child may encounter; it would be helping lots of kids probably.

Social status is a very important thing to the youth of today. Hell I'm part of the youth of today. I consider my social status to be okay; but it can't be like that for everyone. The children being made fun of could result in a lot of things. Most cases of suicide in children is because of the way they were treated at a public place.

We'll never have a perfect world where kids wont make fun of one another; it's something impossible to achieve.

I doubt that many gay couples want a child anyway to be honest.

Well, yeah, kids are bound to make fun of each other. And frankly, some kids will kill themselves and shoot up schools. Ideally, we wouldn't have to live in a violence oriented society that would result in those courses of actions, any of em. But we do. And bad sheet happens.

But if that's case...might as well let the queers adopt, right? lol

And yes, you're right, it'd be helping a lot of kids, most likely. But restricting this would be an obstacle in helping all the other kids who are gay and grow up in a heterosexist environment. (okay, that was stretching a bit, I know, lol)

And yeah, a gay couple and a single parent are two different things of course.

But some people argue that a gay couple, two males for example, shouldn't raise a child, because the child will lack a mother. But I was just comparing that to a single parent, a male for example, who should be allowed to raise his child, even if the child will lack a mother.

Oh and also, even if a gay couple doesn't want to have kids, I'm sure there are some that do. I wouldn't want to screw over those couples.

Really? I fear the opposite. I fear that if I have a kid, he will not realize that contentment is what matters, and will grow into a "phony."

If the 2 People totally love each other then I would say yes. I used to be a Homophobe but learnt to accept it. (Still can't watch 2 Guys Kissing and stuff) And having a child would not be a problem as the 2 Guys could get a Surrogate mother to give birth to a child for them.

Also this is a free world. The whole "Gays is bad" Thing was brought on by Religion (We talked about that in another topic)

I agree with the bolded part. This topic can also bring upon many disagreements and debates. I am glad that this is in the Debates section because it has no other placement that makes any sense. Well I sorta support same sex marriage' date=' because all humans should have their own free will of who they wish to marry. If they choose to live like that we don't have enough reason to rant about them being gay or lesbian. [u']All I am saying is that we shouldn't make fun, laugh, or even try to make them feel angry and/or sad about this.[/u]
