Scratching isn't as difficult if you have some concept art to work with.

If your trying to go for a prexistant creature, such as, lets say a horse.. its alot more difficult then you think.

But if you aiming for a smiklburg, then thats easy, becuase there is no such thing, therefore no one would know how it looks.

Well, if you have some kind of concept art to work with it makes it a lot easier, because you can look to that for help and ideas. Also, that art will have the colour palette that you could use for your sprite.

Scratching is very hard; but it can be made easier with concept art and a funk load of practice.

Scratch sprites are beyond easy' date=' I don't do them because they have nothing challenging about them.

For you, maybe.

Have you always been awesome at scratching or did you have to practice?

I never made sprites, only recently have I even made a sprite. I started with full pictures and went from there.

Wait.. I think you might be confused with what were talking about.

Were talking about creating one from scratch, no splicing combination etc..

Zoom in on this image and you can see how I used grey scale shades to blend the black outlines into the white background, thats called anti-alising(Sp?). It makes things blend in a little better. I use the same method to blend different shades together and make everything look smooth. This is an older image and my technique has changed a bit but the concept is the same.
