Violet Witch: Discussion

Reason for it not being a Plant WOTBF?

OR just "No" again?

This card only activates if destroyed by battle; Witch activates if sent from the field to the graveyard by any method, including being tributed, sent for a Synchro Summon, or being destroyed by a card effect. The difference is significant - more so than ever in removal-heavy formats.

There is already another card that basically does the same' date=' but it has to be 900 DEF (methinks) and apart from that fact, it actually [i']is[/i] a WOTBF for Plants.

Also, it's a Plant itself, unlike this card.

Actually, it's 1000 DEF.

Ya, that card.

Why don't we discuss that card instead?

It's very decent.

Botanity Girl also isn't comparable to Witch' date=' as Witch is mandatory, while Botanity is optional.

This renders several of the methods we would use to trigger Witch's effect... unviable for triggering Botanity's effect.

When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can add 1 Plant-Type monster with 1500 DEF or less from your Deck to your hand.

They are both optional >>

It's extremely obvious that he means Witch of the Black Forest, not Velvet Witch. And he's right; being able to miss the timing renders a variety of methods, including tributing, useless.

It's not very obvious when they both say "witch", and they only say "witch".

But in the case of "Witch of the Black Forest", the statement is correct.

It's incredibly obvious. The presence of the word "also" in Atem's post makes that clear to anyone with reading skills, especially since nobody was even comparing Botany Girl to Violet Witch, while they were both being compared to Witch of the Black Forest. Botany Girl can be activated in far more situations than Violet Witch can but far fewer than Witch of the Black Forest can, which should also make it blatantly obvious what he was talking about.

More importantly, however, you could just use your head to figure out to which "Witch" he was referring. "Gee, there are two possibilities, one of which makes the statement true and one of which does not. Should I recklessly jump to the conclusion that Atem has some clue how the game works, or should I take the wiser approach and automatically assume that he's wrong? Decisions, decisions."

There are idiots on this site.

You don't seem very good at identifying them.

Don't blame me for assuming something.

When your assumption makes no sense whatsoever' date=' I will blame you for assuming it.

And even with your reasoning, it's still not extremely obvious.

Yes, it is. However, it does require some knowledge of the English language.

This is a topic about Violet Witch' date=' after all, and they could have been talking about how we shouldn't discuss Botanical Girl instead.

Atem was saying that Botanical Girl was also not quite a Plant version of Witch of the Black Forest, so in a sense that is part of what he was saying.

You're basing your side on just as much assumption as I am. It is not extremely clear what "Witch" could be, you can only assume when they give you just one word to the name. Granted that they did also mention that it had a mandatory effect, BUT they could have just gotten their card effect wrong. If I said "Guardian" can do a lot of damage to your opponent, and doesn't compare to "Ben Kei", and the topic is about one "Guardian" monster, you would have to assume I'm talking about the one that is being discussed. But I'm going to stop this before it gets any further into a subject non-related to the topic.
