Star's Card Of The Week. Starts Monday

Recommended Posts

I did this once before, and I'm going to start a new one. I am doing this to help out duelists who don't know what cards to use.

Card Of The Day Number One (8/20/07)

Uria, Lord Of Searing Flames

SOI-EN001

Rarities: Ultra Rare/Ultimate Rare

98619849fx4.jpg

Effect

-This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by sending 3 face-up trap cards from your side of the field to the graveyard. Increase the attack of this card by 1000 points for each Continuous Trap card in your graveyard. Once per turn, you can destroy one Set Spell or Trap Card on your opponent's side of the field. Spell and Trap cards cannot be activated in response to this effect's activation.

Description

-Most of the Sacred Beasts, Egyptian Gods, and Wicked Gods, are not used often, due to their incredibly hard summon requirements. However, Uria is a powerful card, and I intend to explain how.

Positives

-You need to send three face-up trap cards to the graveyard to play this guy, which means, you don't need to tribute any of your monsters.

-In addition to this, he is automatically 3000 when he's summoned, because of the boost he gets for continuous trap cards in the graveyard.

-Not only is he a monster with 3000 attack points, he is also a monster that can destroy spell and trap cards. Not to mention, spell and trap cards cannot be activated in response to that effect.

-He is a Pyro monster with under 500 attack points. If for some reason you can't summon him, you can discard him for the effect of Blaze Accelerator or Tri-Blaze Accelerator.

-He cannot be destroyed by the effect of Trap Hole or Bottomless Trap Hole, because his original attack is 0.

Negatives

-You must send three face-up trap cards in order to summon him. This is both a positive and a negative. This is a negative because three trap cards will take up room on the field that you could be using to play trap cards like Mirror Force.

-Against good duelists, you won't be able to keep spell and traps out as easily. Raiza or Mobius can easily take care of them, and Jinzo will negate them.

Overall

- Uria is not an amazing card. However, I do like this card over all the Sacred Beasts, and I am about to be recieving one. It's not going to work in every deck. However, you could use it in a deck that focuses on summoning him. A deck focused around summoning him can be good against the ever-famous Crystal Beast deck. You can stop your opponent from getting the full potential of the Crystal Beasts.

Grade

B+

-Not great, but a decent card and there are a few decks that might make it work.

Card Of The Day Number Two (8/21/07)

Kuriboh

PCY-005

Rarities: Secret Rare

kuribohop6.jpg

Effect

-Discard this card from your hand to the graveyard to make damage inflicted to your lifepoints by one opponent's monster 0. This effect must be activated during your opponent's battle phase.

Description

-Once again, I've decided to review a card that isn't used as often as some others. Now this little guy is weak, and his effect isn't as good as a card like Waboku, but I have a few ideas to make this card work.

Positives

-Well, even though this isn't a big deal, you can discard Kuriboh to make battle damage inflicted from one opponent's monster. So, if your opponent uses a card like Demise, King Of Armageddon, you can discard Kuriboh to negate any battle damage, and keep your lifepoints safe for the turn.

-This is more of a way this card can be used, than a positive. If you are using a Sky Scourge deck, you can use Kuriboh's effect to discard him and, you will get a fiend type monster in the graveyard. This will help to summon a Sky Scourge.

-Kuriboh is only 300. Meaning, if you have a deck with "Crush Card Virus" in it, you can tribute Kuriboh and destroy all of their monsters with 1500 or more attack points. So not only do you get a monster in the graveyard for Sky Scourges, you also destroy all of your opponent's powerful monsters.

-Another combo I have with Kuriboh is using it against a Cyber Dragon deck. Let's say your opponent uses "Power Bond" and summons a Cyber End Dragon. If they attack one of your face-down monsters or even a monster you have, you can discard Kuriboh to make the damage to your lifepoints 0, then your opponent will lose 4000 at the end of the turn.

-Kuriboh's effect cannot be negated, since it doesn't activate on the field, so you can always use it at least once.

Negatives

-Kuriboh is only 300, so you won't be using him to attack much, unless your opponent has no monsters.

-If your opponent attacks directly with let's say, 4 monsters, and you have no spell or traps to help you, Kuriboh will be useless because you will still take damage from the other monsters.

-With cards like Thestalos and Confiscation in a lot of decks, Kuriboh won't be of much use.

Overall

-Kuriboh isn't a great card. However, if used in certain decks, it can be a useful card. Would I recommend using it in every deck? No. Only use it if you know what your doing.

Grade

B-

-Kuriboh's low attack and the fact that many cards today make your opponent discard, makes Kuriboh much worse than he used to be.

Card Of The Day Number Three (8/22/07)

Elemental Hero Magma Neos

TAEV-EN043

Rarities: Secret Rare

magmapn1.jpg

Effect

"Elemental Hero Neos + Neo Spacian Grand Mole + Neo Spacian Flare Scarab"

This card can only be Special Summoned from your Fusion Deck by returning the above cards you control to the deck. (You do not use "Polymerization.) This card gains 400 attack for each card on the field. This card returns to the Fusion Deck during the end phase. When this card is returned to the Fusion Deck by this effect, return all cards on the field to their owner's hands.

Description

-Many people don't like Elemental Hero fusions, mostly because of the fact that you have to fusion summon them. Not to mention, some of them don't have great effects, and those that do, are not easy to summon. If you thought the basic Elemental Hero fusions were not easy to summon, the Elemental Hero fusions involving Elemental Hero Neos are even worse. They require two monsters to be on the field, then returned to your deck. Although their effects are good, they return to the fusion deck at the end of the turn. When the Tactical Evolution set came out, it introduced another type of Elemental Hero fusions, ones that require three monsters on the field to summon. Enter Elemental Hero Magma Neos, the greatest Elemental Hero Fusion there is.

Positives

-This big guy may be tough to summon, but he starts out with 3000 attack points. That's enough to take down monsters like the Monarchs, Cyber Dragons, and even Jinzo.

-Elemental Hero Magma Neos gains 400 attack points for every card on the field. Meaning when he's summoned, his attack is automatically 3400, because he gets an attack bonus from himself. If you have Neo-Space on the field when you summon him, his attack will 4300, and he won't have to return to the field at the end of your turn.

-Even if Magma Neos does have to return to your Fusion Deck, his secondary effect makes up for it. When he's returned to your fusion deck by his own effect, all cards on the field are returned to their owner's hands. That means, although you could be hit with a direct attack, your opponent won't have much on the field, meaning they can't tribute to summon anything.

Negatives

-Elemental Hero Magma Neos is not easy to summon at all. I know I've mentioned it twice already, but it's one of the reasons he isn't (or won't be used as much.)

-It returns to your fusion deck at the end of your turn if you don't have Neo Space out. Because you have to return your monsters to your deck to summon him, it means you will most likely take direct damage.

-If he is targeted by Raiza The Storm Monarch, or Neo Spacian Grand Mole, there is nothing you can do about it.

Overall

-If you have cards in your deck that let you summon Magma easily, then try him out. His effect can be trouble for your opponent. If this card was a tribute monster, or a fusion monster that you can summon with Polymerization, he would be a card that many people used. Try to make a deck that focuses on summoning this card, it might work. Just don't make an Elemental Hero deck or a Neo Spacian Deck.

Grade

B

-Although Magma's effect is great, most people won't run it because they will never get him out. It is definitely the coolest looking, and one of the toughest Elemental Hero cards to get.

Card Of The Day Number 3 (8/24/07)

Breaker The Magical Warrior

MFC-071 (Original Pack Release)

Rarities: Ultra Rare (Original Pack Release)

breakerlh5.jpg

Effect

When this card is sucessfully Normal Summoned, put 1 spell counter on it (max. 1). Increase the attack of this monster by 300 points for each spell counter on this card. Also, you can remove one spell counter from this card to destroy one spell or trap on the field.

Description

-I started this review to help duelists learn about some cards not used so often. Now this card has not been used for about a year, but for a different reason. Please welcome the newest card to be taken off the Advanced Format list, Breaker The Magical Warrior! This card was banned for a while, so you can guarantee it will be used in almost every deck starting September first.

Positives

-This guy starts off with 1600 attack points. Now of course Gemini Elf or Gene-Warped Warwolf could defeat this card in a battle, his effect makes up for his low attack points.

-When Breaker is Normal Summoned, he gets one spell counter. For each spell counter he has, Breaker gets an extra 300 attack points, plus the ability to destroy one spell or trap card on the field.

-If you don't use Breaker's effect right away, he has an attack of 1900, because of the spell counter.

Negatives (Yes, there are a few.)

-Once you activate Breaker's effect, his attack becomes 1600 once again. That's not much for a 4 star monster, considering there are monsters like Gemini Elf, Luster Dragon, and Gene-Warped Warwolf.

-Breaker can only have one spell counter at a time, meaning you can't keep increasing his attack with cards like Pitch-Black Power Stone or Apprentice Magician.

Overall

-Breaker is a good card. He works in almost any deck. After all, he's basically a 1600 monster and a Mystical Space Typhoon combined.

Grade

A-

-Only a few negatives gets Breaker the best review grade yet.

Card Of The Day Number Five (8/28/07)

Mirror Force

DB2-EN082

Rarities: Ultra Rare/Super Rare

dmocly3.jpg

Effect

You can only activate this card when your opponent's monster declares an attack. Destroy all attack position monsters on your opponent's side of the field.

Description

-Mirror Force is one of the greatest trap cards in the game of Duel Monsters. This card is currently limited to one. Mirror Force is a good card, but you chances of getting one aren't as good as the card's effect.

Positives

-When your opponent attacks, you can destroy all of their monsters in attack position, which is always good. Mirror Force can be a 1 for a 5 in some situations.

Negatives

-Being Ultra Rare and super rare in sets tht aren't printed anymore, makes Mirror Force a valuable card, and most likely you won't get one anymore.

-Mirror Force can be a 1 for a 1, because you might have to use it to save your lifepoints.

Overall

-Mirror Force is a great card, and a card I would recommend for any deck. Good luck getting it though.

Grade

-A

-Mirror Force gets the highest grade yet, but no A+ because it's very challenging to obtain.

The card of the day hasbeen changed to card of the week. That starts Monday, September 3rd.

It's not a good card Im afraid. The best continous traps conflict, decree, call, gravity bind. It's not worth the three cards wasted to bring it out. Hamon in CB are more reliable, as is raviel return. It is actually the hardest to get out Im afraid. Unless using a fun deck I would advise against decking any of lords.

Everybody loves Kuriboh. Good card when you need it the right time. Of course, its week, which means it'll need to stay in your hand the whole time you have it, until you need its effect. And since you said all that there is to say about it, well, that's all I have to say here.
