Ash_Fear
I play Yugioh every week at a the local card place and this is a bit of a heated topic for us but I’m wanting someone outside our little group to give us an answer a few weeks ago in a duel I had played my Skill Drain witch negates all monster effects on the field at the cost of 1000 life points and my opponent had a Horus Dragon LV 6 on the field my still drain was on first but can he still get it’s effect when the effect starts on the field when he has to destroy my monster for it to start? Guest
Skill Drain still permits the activation of effects, and therefore the payment of any relevant costs; however, it negates the effects of those effects if the monster is face-up on the field when the effect resolves. So you could discard a card for Snipe Hunter's effect even with Skill Drain on the field, but Snipe Hunter would be unable to destroy anything, because it would be face-up on the field when the effect resolved, and thus would be negated. Thus, you are permitted to declare the activation of the effect of Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6, even with Skill Drain on the field. Tributing Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 is a cost to activate its effect, so when the effect resolves, Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 is in the graveyard. Skill Drain only negates the effects of monsters on the field, so Skill Drain is unable to negate the effect of Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6, allowing Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 to be Special Summoned. Ash_Fear
The effect needs a monster to be destroyed while it's Face-up so would not Skill Drain cancel that effect?
Guest
Whether Skill Drain applies depends of the location of the monster when the effect resolves; the activation conditions are completely irrelevant.
Zeppeli Gyro Supreme
You can't negate the requirements for a card's activation.... Like if a card says "This effect can only be activated when you control no other monsters." You can only negate the use of the effect itself if the effect resolves while the monster is on the field. You're not "using" "this effect can only be activated when you control no other monsters", are you?
Abstract [Atrocity]
It can't stop a cost, so Exiled Force, Horus LV6, and any other monster that requires you to tribute it to send it to the grave are unaffected by SD. Very fun xD
werewolfjedi
Whether Skill Drain applies depends of the location of the monster when the effect resolves; the activation conditions are completely irrelevant. however any new monsters are still negated, so you need to make sure your making the right choice.
