~Tears Of Izar~

~A Semi-YuGiOh Related Fan-Fic~

PG-13

Hey Guys! This is my first ever Fan-Fic, so don't expect anything amazing, and since it's only loosely related to Yu-Gi-Oh, then some of you might not like it. But anywho, I hope some of you do enjoy it, and here we go!
~Prologue~

~Shattered Tears~

Plip. Plip. Plip.

Water droplets clung to the huge stalactites at the top of the cavern, but would soon lose their grip and plummet to the cave floor, with a tiny splash as they landed.

Plip. Plip. Plip.

A quite hum floated through the cave, as though it rode on a breeze that wasn’t there. It was a strange sound, sort of a mix between the gentle plucks of a harp and the soft, swaying sound of a violin.

The quiet plipping was drowned out as the sound grew louder, the source drawing closer and closer as each second passed.

Shadows of tiny creatures scurried about between the stalagmites, as though frightened by the odd sound.

Suddenly the cavern was illuminated by two oil lanterns, carried by a couple of humanoids. Although they had all the features of your normal, everyday Human, their eyebrows were slightly more angled, their ears were tipped with sharp points and there skin a lot fairer.

The Elves walked over the entrance into the cave, followed by 11 others. 2 musicians, playing a Guitar-like instrument which was the source of the enchanting noise that echoed around the cavern walls, 8 heavily armoured warriors, each a sword at their hip and a bow slung over their back and 1 mounted elf, garbed in robes of royal blue and a sapphire-encrusted crown upon his head.

“Hail, Prince!” one of the warriors announced, “We have arrived!”

The mounted Elf dismounted and trudged to the front of the tiny procession and they marched forward to the top of a steep incline. A shimmer appeared in the lantern light and the group came to a halt.

“Ah, look at them!” said the Prince with glee, holding his arms up to the rock covered sky, “They shine like the stars above us! Behold, my Elven brethren, the Tears of Izar!”

Sat on top of rocky mound was a intricately carved pedestal, around it’s cylindrical shape there were perfect reincarnations of all the important things that happened in Elven history. The birth of their race; the creation of the Stars and many more wondrous, and mournful, events.

In it’s arms, the pedestal cradled a gem like none of this world. Sheens of red, blue and green ran across its surface, and from it’s core there radiated a soft glow of light.

Their mouths open in wonder and eyes glimmering in awe, the Elves watched as the Prince lifted the magnificent jewel from it’s resting place.

A sharp twang split the silence, and a crude, red-feathered arrow sprouted from the Elven Princes’ blue robes. Falling to his knees, a murky green creature ran out from the shadows and grabbed the Jewel from the Princes outstretched arms, lopping off his head in the process.

“Kills them!” the Goblin laughed manically, as it darted forward towards the remaining Elves, “Kills them alls!”

A hiss filled the air as the still shocked Elevn warriors, drew their blades and charged into the oncoming tide of Goblins. Screams of Goblins and Elves mingled with each other, dancing through the air together, until all that was left was the crazed laughter of the Goblin horde. They ignited their lamps and ran back through the tunnels of the dark cave, back to their masters lair, even deeper within the mountain. They had killed the silly Elves and were off to collect their reward for getting the big, shiny rock.

Or so they thought.

Darius pushed himself further into the crevice of the wall. He, unlike the other, older elves, hadn’t been as foolish as to think they could overpower that many Goblins with so few of themselves, so he had bravely hidden himself inside this crevice, as to inform the Queen what had befallen her precious son.

“Oh who am I kidding?” Darius muttered to himself, “You didn’t do this to be brave, you were terrified.”

He had thought it would make him feel better if he admitted it. Maybe he was wrong.

Darius poked his head out of the hole. After hearing the noise of the Goblins die down, he thought it might be safer about now. No one was coming along the tunnel, so he put a foot out into the centre of the chamber.

“Hehehe! More pretty stonies for the master!” came a high pitched squeal. Darius knew his eyes were better than those of the Goblins, so, knocking an arrow on his bow, he waited for the goblin to enter his vision. The muffled patter of it’s feet grew louder, it’s giddy mumblings became clearer, until they suddenly stopped and became a scream, and a soft thud.

“Filthy Goblins after the Tears again...” came a mutter from down the tunnel.

Darius smiled as he recognized the voice as Elijah’s, one of the other young elves in the Princes ex-Guard.

“Elijah!” he called, walking towards where his friend should be, “It’s me, Darius! Y’know the good looking one?”

A muscular arm wrapped around Darius’ neck.

“Not the brightest one were you though?” the arms owner hissed into his ear, “Goblins are still around.”

Elijah let go, bending over and picking up some jewels from the floor. Darius watched as the taller elf studied them.

“No, these aren’t Tears. Just the Sapphires from the Princes’ crown.” Elijah pocketed the sapphires and said, “Come, we must retrieve the Tears from those vile creatures.”

“Haha! You must be joking!” Darius was in shock, he was expecting to be leaving, not chasing after a group of Goblins.

Elijah looked puzzled, “It was and is our duty to escort the Tears back to the Queen. If we return without them, you’ll be facing a lot worse than a group of Goblins.”

“At least I’ll still be alive!” Darius retorted. He thought being the Princes’ bodyguard would have been easy. Boy, how wrong he was.

“Just,” Elijah grabbed his arm and dragged him along, “Their scent is still strong we can track them.”

Hours passed. The two elves took turn after turn, following the goblins through the maze that was the mountain tunnels. Suddenly, Elijah held up a hand to signal that they were stopping.

“Ow!“ Darius muttered as he walked into the back of the other Elf, “Wha-” he began, but the larger elf clamped a hand over his mouth and signalled to look around the corner.

The chamber into which they now looked was filled by a dazzling light, that only hurt their eyes more since they had been stuck in the darkness for so long. Goblins danced, chanting as they went, around a huge archway, which crackled with magical electricity. In front of the archway stood a tall, podgy goblin that must have been the chief.

“Goblins!” he roared, “I present to you…”

There was a brief pause, possibly to build up suspense or maybe for the fat Goblin to get his breath back. Then, as the Goblin Chief reached behind his back, “The Tears of Izar!”

A cheer arose from the crowd, the electricity from the archway behind him intensified.

“Goblins!” he shouted again, “Our race is dieing, but destiny does not bind us to this world! With this, Tear of Izar… thingy, we can conquer and rule everywhere and anywhere imaginable!”

Another cheer arose from the crowd, the chanting and dancing became faster and louder.

“But that can’t happen, what the hell do they mean by “this world“? We are the only world, aren’t we?” Darius whispered to his companion. When he did not receive a reply, Darius looked down to see a look of shock and fear on Elijah’s face.

“No… This, this can’t be happening!”

Annoyed that he wasn’t getting any answers, Darius spoke again, “What? What’s happening?”

Looking back into the hall of stone, Darius’ mouth fell open.

The Goblin Chief, holding the stone high above his head, had joined in with the chanting.

Lightening sprung from the Arch, groping and probing it’s surroundings for the Tear. It finally found it’s prize and latched on for dear life. Well, if electric had a life, but that’s beside the point.

The gem glowed stronger and stronger, and lightening streaked across from one side of the archway to the other, creating a spider web like effect. A brilliant white flash filled the chamber. When it faded the arch was filled with what looked like a smooth piece of glass.

“Well that was abit too fancy for just glass, eh?” Darius muttered, awe struck.

“Now go!” The chief shouted, putting the gem under his arm, “Go! Go in the Goblin name! Spread fear! Spread panic! Destroy, kill, conquer!”

The chanting goblins took up war cries, drew their small blades and charged towards the mirror in the Archway.

“No!” Darius drew himself up, knocked an arrow, and sent it flying straight for the Chiefs green, mottled skull.

“Darius, No!” Elijah cried as the arrow flew straight and true through the air. The Chief may have been fat, but he sure as hell wasn’t slow. It flung it’s arms up as to protect himself, forgetting the precious gem he clasped in his grubby claws.

The arrow smashed directly into the Tear, obliterating itself instantly. But much more damage was caused than a lost arrow. The Jewel cracked into 4 jagged pieces, on impaling itself in it’s wielders face, the other 3 spun through the air and into the archway.

A sharp crack ran through the hall, as the three chunks of stone crashed into it’s shimmering surface and out of site.

A howl of pain erupted from every Goblin in the room, all of them turning to face the destroyers of their dreams.

“Can we rune now?” Darius queried, his voice shaking.

“Erm… that might be an idea,” Elijah replied. The two elves turned and fled down the corridor, as the screaming horde charged out behind them.

~Yugi‘s Tale~

“Yes Grandpa, I’ve gotten my lunch money,” the boy sighed. He hurried down the stairs, swinging his backpack over his navy blue jacket as he went.

Yugi Moto stepped into the main area of his Grandpas’ Game Shop and headed for the door, only pausing to look at the torn piece of card that lay behind the counter in it’s own special box.

“Yugi, have you got your lunch money?” came an elderly voice from the bottom of the stairwell that Yugi had just left.

He looked up from the card and saw his Grandpa hobbling across the room towards him. Yugi sighed again.

“Yes, I’ve just told you…” he began, but was interrupted as his Grandpa plonked a bag full of change on the counter, “Oh, thanks Grandpa.”

“See? What would you do without me, huh?” Grandpa chuckled to himself , “Now go on go to school!”

Scooping up the bag of change, Yugi set off for the door again.

School hadn’t been that interesting lately. No one had been kidnapped, no one had tried to take over the world through the power of Ancient Egyptian artefacts, no one was even picking on Yugi any more!

“My life’s getting boring,” he sighed as he stepped through the school gates and into a sea of blue jackets and pink skirts, with lessons as sharks and break times as little boats to have a rest on.

“Ugh, I’ve got double Math as well!”

Counting the ticking hands of the clock had become a sort of habit of Yugi’s lately. He had always found Math to be an easy subject so finished early regularly.

“Hey Yug, Yugi!” a whisper came from Yugi’s side. “What are we meant to be doing?”

Joey Wheeler, Yugi’s best friend for a while now was, unlike him, rather bad at Maths. Oh, he could do it, but he preferred not to.

Sighing, Yugi turned his head to regard his friend. On his desk lay an unopened notebook, an empty pack of crisps and a pile of something that looked remarkably like Duel Monsters cards.

“Joey, the lesson ends in 4 minutes and..” he checked the clock again, “38 seconds. Haven’t you done anything?”

Joey looked down at his desk, then turned back to face Yugi, grinning.

“I learned that I can fit 18 crisps in my mouth at the same time and shuffle my Deck 43 times in a minute!”

Yugi laughed to himself, “Well done, Joey. Keep up with that and you might be able to eat a whole bag in one mouthful!”

“Don’t be stupid, Yug!” Joey said, rolling up the crisp packet and throwing it in the bin at the front of the class, “That’d be impossible!”

The bell rang and Yugi began to look forward to his night alone at home.

“…And then, they fell on the floor and I so wanted to throw Jello on ‘em!”

A high-pitched clapping sound above Yugi’s head, told him the two boys stood on either side of him had high-fived each other. Again.

Feeling a tap on his shoulder, Yugi turned around.

“Tea, hey!” he said, seeing the girl stood in front of him, hands on hips, face wrinkled slightly in a frown.

“What happened to waiting for me?” she yelled suddenly, making all 3 boys jump.

“I-I’m sorr-” Yugi began.

“No your not! You do this all the time!” Tea shouted, then folded her arms, “Well, are we going or what?” A babble of agreement came from the 3 men. She smiled, “I thought so.”

The four teens walked along the road, oblivious to what was about to happen to one them. They laughed and joked, and one of them shouted at the others a bit. Then…

“I’ll be a minute, I’ll catch up when I’ve tied my shoelace!”

Yugi Moto bent down and grasped his unfastened laces.

“I need some new shoes,” he said, noting the scuffs on them.

Thud!

“Ow!” Yugi yelped, as something hard collided with the back of his head. Stars flashed in front of his eyes, and he swayed slightly. Reaching round to feel where the thing had hit him, Yugi could feel a sticky patch of blood in his hair. Withdrawing his hand, he made a sound of disgust as the blood and hair mixture trickled down his fingers, so hurriedly wiped his hands on his blue trousers.

Then it dawned on him, someone must have thrown the rock in the first place. Swinging his head round, expecting to see some bigger kids laughing at him, Yugi was surprised to see the street empty.

Why would they hide from me? he wondered, It’s not as though I’m that intimidating.

Yugi looked around again, but no one came into view, but, just as he was about to turn around something sparkling caught his eye. Making his way over to the shining object, Yugi saw it was a gem, about the size of a golf ball, and probably weighed about the same what with the damage to his head, laying under a bush.

“Hey, Yugi! Come on!” Came a distant cry. Yugi looked over to see his friends were at the tunnel that lead to there part of town, under the motorway.

“I’ll just be a minute!” he yelled back, making himself feel dizzy again. He leaned back down to pick the gem up. It fitted snugly in the palm of his hand, which Yugi thought was odd, and the jagged edges sparkled in the bright sunlight.

He yelped as the stone grew hot and began to melt in his hand. Swinging his arm up and down did nothing to dislodge the stone from his palm and anxiety crept over him as the now fully liquid gem crept over his fingers, encasing them in a shimmering cage. Then it all went black.

As I said, it's only loosely based on Yu-Gi-Oh and we meet some MORE familiar faces next Chapter, so erm.. stay tuned!
