Recommended Posts

I have a 1,000+ Post Count, show interest in the site and the card maker, alot of moderation/administration experience, have awesome GrEmMeRR and speelung, never been warned, have many friends on the site, an awesome name ^.^, help out alot, write good tutorials and help people out by PM alot, but I'm not exactly the best known person here, and I haven't spent alot of time here recently (setting up my own site), so I don't think I have a good chance.

There is no talent to being a moderator' date='

[u']WRONG.[/u]

there isn't past experience.

WRONG AGAIN.

There's only the ability to perform hard work and keep performing it consistantly, even if you make some mistakes.

Experience beats both. If you had experience, that means you won't make the same mistakes. Besides, in an office (as your example), the higher rank you are usually is due to the trust the President (aka. YCMaker) has in you and the amount of experience you've had.

Well, what I meant was that if you work your hardest even after you have made some mistakes, then you should also be learning from those mistakes, thus giving you experience. I doubt that 3/4 of the current moderators had had a moderating experience before thay were chosen. And no, I'm not talking about moderating an IPBFree or another small forum site, I'm talking about official sites like this one, planet renders, gimptalk, etc. All those large sites that base around one specific thing and then branch out.

Realize that half the moderators(from what I've seen) STILL don't know how to run this forum, even after making so many mistakes. That's because they didn't have past experience at all. Running a smaller forum gives you some experience, especially if you have been running several smaller forums for the past 2 years. Of course, you won't have much experience unless you have faced some of the great challenges that come with the mod job, such as major spammers(the type that, for example, fill your forum with porn), and hackers. All the same, a mod needs to do their job. If they can't, they weren't a good choice. You can work your hardest and it won't mean sh** unless you have some experience to back you up. =/ My point is, Pikachu is almost right on this part. Experience is one of the best things to have when modding a forum. Of course, hard work is good as well. You need both, basically. Most people who applied for the position have neither.

Alright, then let's take the view of a drumline. Different concept, but yet same deals.

Being in a drumline might make you think, "of, those people are just full of talent." Well, those peopl who say that are just looking at the smaller drumlines that only to marching football band. If you've actually seen a world class drumline actually perform inside of a gymnasium, only perussion, you'll understand that mere talent will not get you through anything like that. The drumlines I've seen make their way to Dayton, Ohio for the WGI Indoor Drumline Competition and have placed in finals have nothing but hard work and determination. Sure, you can start off with mere talent, but as you gain experience, you'll start to have more hard work to do thus you start learning.

This is the same as a moderator. Every moderator on this site has started out without completely knowing what they were in for, but as time progressed and they started working harder, they started to gain experience and were eventually, a few of them were able to do their jobs and be social around the forums at the same time.

Of course, YCMaker's final descision is what it all comes down to. So, by putting up an application form, he is most likely expecting to see some (notice I didn't say all) members starting working harder in hopes of gaining his trust and on the side, maybe even learning how to become good members.

If the ones that don't get chosen give up, then it proves to him that they were not ready anyway, and the ones who weren't chosen, yet still ramain good members might have a better shot next time he wants to chose another moderator.

If you do not understand this, please PM me with any questions you may have. I can try to answer them with the best of my ability.

A bit shakey on that.

Icy might dissappear again.

Which is why I'm not saying Ruby either.

I never disappeared.

I was sorta always here, and looked always when asked. Bloodrun, Browarod and others can back me up on that. Though, at times I was hesitant. That still does not mean I wasn't here.

When is he going to decide...Uh the agany.

agony

Your spelling has just been fixed.

Good thing you dont need perfect spelling to be a mod.

=/

I do hate how people think you need perfect grammar to be a mod.

This one time, I forget who it was but this one jerk was insulting Bloody

Then Bloody used the wrong 'too'

Then that one jerk insulted that and ended the arguement, thinking that the jerks are smarter (probably because the jerk knew it was going to lose)
