Debate Guidelines and PoV Debate

Alright, I have been really peeved how I've seen the Debate Section turn out. As many of these posts I see are not sided, as they are supposed to be. Even in a neutral debate, or standing you have chosen a side. And that side is the neutral. You cannot, not have a side. That would not be in the spirit of a debate. So in order to save confusion/spam posts. I will write this up, as well as contain a structured debate in this.

[spoiler=Debate Guildlines]

  • Every person must chose a side, regardless of previous standing anywhere else. You cannot simply have an educated statement and post it, you are not arguing nor debating.
  • You cannot suddenly agree with someone after being proven wrong. If you have been proven wrong, simply cease to post. Otherwise your next posts will be considered Spam.
  • If you must get an opinion from another person in order to move on. Posting in a sort of RP OoC context would be preferred but, do not stop debating. Otherwise, please ask this question via PM and place the needed answer to your question in your next response in order to keep the debate moving and further ground covered. As well as saving spammish posts.
  • Positive Standing: This is where you agree with the Thread Starter, and argue his/her point to prove it correct. One cannot simply post that they agree. You must have a person who disagrees with the Thread Starter in order to post, or please refrain from posting at all. (This does exclude the person who posted the thread).
  • Negative Standing: This is where you disagree with the Debate/Thread Starter, and argue his/her point in order to prove it wrong. You are absolutely essential to any debate, or it simply cannot happen. And the thread must be sit for General. You also must be the second poster, or third pending on someone who knows how to pick no side, yet has their own.
  • Neutral Standing: This is where you neither agree nor disagree with the Thread Starter. You are the hardest role in any debate, and never a must. Your goal is to prove both Positive and Negative Views wrong, white still bringing new life into the debate. Albeit through new information introduced, or what have you. You cannot post until both Positive and Negative views have been shown, or you yourself will have no additional ground to cover. I do not recommend this standing to anyone without intense debate experience, as you run the highest risk of spam etc.

Point-of-View Debate

There are 2 main view points to life at any given time. Pessimism¹ and Optimism². Each basically govern how a person perceives life, and reacts to it, or what have you.

Your goal is to debate which is the better view point, without forcing it onto another person. You may introduce new View Points (at which point I will add it to this post for quick view on the definition and quick-rundown of it). But it cannot be neutral in nature.

¹: Optimism; A general disposition to expect the best in all things .

²: Pessimism; A general disposition to look on the dark side and to expect the worst in all things.

Popular Definition is seriously discouraged in this debate. And have fun kiddies.

This should obviously be stickied.

And if members are not in compliance with the debating rules you have posted, disciplinary action should be taken.

Also, I wouldn't say I'm proud of you doing this Icy; since what has motivated you to do so is pretty depressing; but I am rather envious of how you've done it.

Soo.. Yeah. Kudos, buddy. ;].

  • 1 month later...

Very nice.

But where does this leave the indifferent person to go.

Optimism and pessimism are two very broad generalities. It is possible to be neither optimistic nor pessimistic and still have a particular view point you know...

Why not add emotional, rational, and logical?
