A Few Tips for a Successful Club

Okay, I oftentimes see people trying to make a club, hoping beyond hope that their club will become the "next big thing" on YCM. This is a great sentiment, but the clubs are often missing some vital things. So, I have decided to create a guide to help new users, or those new to club making, make a good fun club.

[spoiler=Step 1: Choose a Good Idea]

Well, every club has a theme, whether it's Pokemon, or Splices, or YGO, or Naruto, every club has some sort of focus.

One trick to making a new club successful is to choose a topic not represented in the other clubs.

example: In the club section you see:

Digimon, Pokemon, Anime, and RP Clubs.

Take a look at all of those, and then think about what you DON'T see.

In that list, there is no club about Halo.

So, you could create a Halo club.

It is more likely to get members, because no other club like it exists.

[spoiler=Step 2: Choosing a Good Name]

This is another, often overlooked part of club making. Choosing a good name helps people undertand what your club is about, and can catch their interest and make them want to join.

Example: You have a club about Pokemon. You are thinking of naming it, "The Pokemon Club".

This is not a bad name, and is sure to get you some members, it tells what your club is about, but it doesn't really catch people's interest very well.

Instead, you can try, "The PokeCenter".

It's catchy, witty, and still says what the club is about. This is the better name.

[spoiler=Step 3: Setting up the First Post]

Many times, club makers overlook the importance of a well-designed, well-organized first post. But the First Post is where people will always look if they are interested in your Club. To get more members, you must create a well organized, professional looking first post.

Example:

Okay, I will continue with the example from the previous point.

You are making a club about Pokemon, called "The PokeCenter".

You are designing your first post. You don't really care about it, and so it looks like this.

[spoiler=Example Post 1]

The PokeCenter, we discuss Pokemon.

Members:

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Just talk, or whatever.

This is a bad post. It doesn't use the most basic of stylistic tools.

Here is what a much better post would look like.

[spoiler=Example Post 2]

[align=center]The PokeCenter

Welcome to The PokeCenter, a place where Pokemon fans can get together and discuss the 2nd hinghest selling franchise of all time. Here, you can talk about anything related to Pokemon, show off your cards and splices, and take part in themed contests, etc.

[spoiler=Members]

Member 1- 335 Points

Member 2- 234 Points

Member 3- 223 Points

[spoiler=Points]

Here is how you get points

1) Create a good topic

2) Invite a member

3) Use the banner in your sig

[spoiler=Rules]

All YCM rules apply

[spoiler=Step 4: Appointing Good Leadership]

When creating a club, after a certain amount of members have joined, it is good idea to appoint a Co-Leader, to run the club in your absense. This allows the club to be well-kept constantly. It also allows the club to better keep spam under control

example: Your club has reached 10 members. You can't be on the computer all the time, and the club is going out of control.

You decide to appoint the most active member to be a Co-Leader.

The level of spam and disorder has decreased considerably, you can now rest easy

[spoiler=Step 5: Keeping Out Bad Members]

Many new "club makers" have the first inclination to let people be free in their club, to allow everyone to have fun. This can sometimes lead to them tolerating negative behavior from their members. For all good intentions, this hurts the club, it is better to remove bad members, than to let them stay and ruin things for evryone else.

Example: A member is harrasing the other members, you don't like to be mean, but you know that they are hurting your club.

You don't want to get a warning from a moderator, so you have a decision to make. You can:

A) Let the member stay and warn them

or

B) Kick them out and ban them from your club, making sure to nitify a moderator if they refuse to leave.

While choice A may seem nicer, if that doesn't work and you recieve a club warning from a moderator, your club can never make it into the Stickied Clubs section, it will also discourage new membership, and will overall hurt your group.

Choice B is a much better choice, it stops your club from being hurt by the bad member, and allows your club to keep its options open. It may seem mean, but would you rather have a club with a bad rep?

I hope this is helpful.

I had this certain member, and he quit the club because of a bad catch phrase. Then, he wanted to come back. Me and Yoshigohan had a 1 page rant about it. So the final descision was, he was like a bot. We let him post 5 times each day. So even if he's out of the club, he can still post.

What should we do? Kick him out forever, or leave as is?
