Eh... We had to do a "redo" assignment in English, we did something that she had the highest standards she could have, and thus she would go over it, mark things we needed to change and give it back. The redo is due on Monday, but I forgot the sheet with the things she wanted me to change at school. x.x Anyone mind helping me by giving me constructive crit on this?

-Response Paragraphs for "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant-

Q. Are symbols and archetypes necessary in short stories?

In short stories, the tales need to be kept simple, and thus the use of symbols and archetypes is necessary. In “The Necklace” the main archetype in the story is the “pretty and charming girls who, as if by mistake of destiny, are born in a family of employees” (Maupassant, 521). He assumes that we know who the pretty and charming girl is - the one that belongs in luxury. Symbols in “The Necklace” are quite clear, and include the necklace itself being a symbol for Mathilde. Pretending to be real, just as she was. The “Oriental draperies” (Maupassant, 521) and “two tall footmen in knee breeches”(Maupassant, 521) represent the life of luxury, the life Mathilde longs for.

Other short stories and films also use archetypes and symbols to make things clearer, and compact it into the limit of time and space of the story. The Disney Corporation uses archetypes everywhere, the princesses, the heroes who want the princesses affection, and the villains who seem to strive for nothing more than to benefit themselves. Symbols are used constantly, to allow the story-teller to give us more information, and a more depth to the characters/plot with little to no extra words/dialogue/time needed. Archetypes and symbols allow writers like Maupassant to give us more, with such few pages, they are unavoidable in short stories and films.

In My English Class We Learned A lot Of Writing Tips Here Is Sonme:

When you start a paragraph you should start with a hook. Like a sentence that draws your reader into the article/paper you wrote. Ex. Do You really want to want until your 18 to drive.

Also at the end of your introduction we put a thesis statement. That states your opinion & Restates the topic

Hope I Could Help :P
