[spoiler=Prologue: Acceptance]

The name's Taylor, Jeremiah Taylor. I'm twenty-two years old, and in desperate need of cash. I can't tell you much, but I'll say this: I've made some bad decisions in my life, and now the bad people are on my trail. You people are my last chance. Please, help out a guy in need.

Jeremiah sighed, and put his face in his hands. Now, his fate was in the hands of a few select people he trusted. He regularly kept in touch with six others, whom he only knew by their aliases. Still, he suspected he knew them better than most people did. There are some secrets you only gave away to those who don't know you. Jeremiah spoke to all of them everyday, and he was fairly sure he'd get a reply within a few minutes or so.

Sure thing, after a few minutes, a chat opened up.

[spoiler=New message from Piscu!]

Piscu: Hey there, Chacu.

Chacu: Hi.

Piscu: Or should I call you Jerry? :)

Chacu: :D Yeah, right.

Chacu: You don't happen to have any spare cash?

Piscu: No :(

Piscu: but I might know someone who does

Piscu: or rather, something

Jeremiah froze for a moment. It wasn't that he didn't trust Piscu, but this... it seemed strange. A friend of Piscu who might give him some money? Sounds a bit too good to be true.

[spoiler=Your conversation with Piscu]

Piscu: A friend of mine recently got a job at some sort of lottery

Piscu: I didn't understand it all, really

Piscu: but he said there was some serious money involved. Millions.

Chacu: :O A million or two would be great.

Chacu: It all sounds a little too great, though. You sure about this friend of yours?

Piscu: Sure, I've known him since I was a little kid.

Piscu: I'll have to talk to him about it, but I'm pretty sure it'll go your way, Chacu.

Piscu: He called it “Fool Game” or something

Piscu Google it

Piscu See ya

~Piscu has left the conversation~

Jeremiah sighed, and closed the window. None of the others were online, and Piscu probably wouldn't get back any time soon, so he decided to do - for once - what Piscu told him to. He opened up Google, and after a few minutes he found the website. The Fool's Game, he read. A game where skill and knowledge trump physical qualities. The Game itself consists of various rounds and stages, with many different rewards. However, all these rounds are just means to an end; the true, grand prize will only be given to one person, the winner of the game. This grand prize can vary slightly depending on the players, but will be at least...

He couldn't help gasping. “Thirty million dollars? With that much, I could... I could pay everything back, and still have way too much.” He sighed. “Then again, I don't know jack about how to play this game.” Out of the blue, the FAQ section appeared.

Question: How do I sign up for the Fool's Game?

Answer: Application to the Fool's Game (from hereon referred to as “The Game”) will close at midnight, on the sixth of June. Until then, you can apply through this website. Click the “Apply” button above for more information.

Question: How do you play the Game?

Answer: Specific rules regarding each Round will be revealed upon entering the Round. Let us assure you however that large amounts of money will be involved.

Jeremiah sighed. Some other questions were listed, but they wouldn't help him. So, I basically sign up here, and then what? Wait until I get a reply? There was the familiar ding! from the community, and Jeremiah switched the tab.

[spoiler=New Message from Piscu!]

Piscu Hai Chacu

Chacu Hi

Piscu I just got off the phone with my friend.

Piscu Seems that you sign up on the website

Chacu Yeah, I saw that.

Piscu and then the Game starts

Piscu some sort of challenge, directly on the site

Piscu to see if you're worth the money

Chacu ...

“So that's it, eh... that's the catch. The Game would start from the very beginning. Of course, you wouldn't be able to apply more than once.” Jeremiah shrugged. “Still, there's no downside. I don't really think I'll find cash anywhere else.” Without further thought, he clicked Apply. After filling in a few forms and submitting them, he got an e-mail.

Your application to the Fool's Game has been accepted, and you will move on to the preliminary round. A million dollars (1000000$) has been added to your Fool's Game Secretariat Account.

Best of luck,

~The Dealer

Guest Ixigo

This was... quite nice for a beginning, reminds me quite a few of 'those' manga I've read. I still detect the basic lines of that old style of yours you had during Legacy of the Tormentor, but it has been vastly improved upon. Interesting characters and the looming shadow of something going on - that's what I love about your writing. Even if it's just from this first sample, I'm already intrigued. Only weakness so far is the lack of considerable length and the meticulous avoidance of detailed description, which might turn out as a good thing depending on the style you choose to maintain. Oh, and it's "regularly", not "regularily".

That will be all for now. Keep it up.

Ixigo, I'm glad you enjoyed this.

On the topic of regularily and regularly, I'll set up an auto-correction in OpenOffice - it's one of those things I always end up doing wrong.

Roxas Cecil, there will a significance, but it'll be minor. Due to the nature of the Game, you'll appear first.

And I can't find a link to Kaiji.
