BehindTheMask
Liek Omfg, srsly. I was proof reading my friends story today, for my english class, and I saw "omg" and "lol" on his paper. I circled, and crossed it out and put "WHY" in big letters. Apparently, this is common. Discuss the use of internet short hand, and its impact on the english vernacular.
CeDeFiA
I have never once did that. But I did try to Alt+tab my papers IRL though.
-Berserker-
In my old school, more than once we were visited by people studying to be teachers. More than once they shortened words like that.

Dismal Euphony
My Psychology teacher uses stuff like "lol" and "OMG" while grading papers. I did a personality report on myself and I noticed "OMG LMAO" during one section. Needless to say, I gave her a high-five.

Guest Star
As someone who writes quite frequently, I think it's completely ridiculous. I mean, online's one thing I guess, but it just makes writing look so...bad and unprofessional, which is why I prefer to write everything out whether I'm online or not. No, usually something like, 'that was funny' or 'haha'. What if it was extremely funny? A simple "haha" or "that was funny" doesn't seem like it would do justice like "lmfao" would. If you wrote something like "that was extremely funny" people may think you're coming off as sarcastic.

Marly
I'm sorry, but anyone stupid enough to put internet acronyms on an English paper and expects a half decent grade deserves to be slapped. I've never done anything like that, however, I do know a student in my Digital Communications class who wrote 'WTF' as a response to a question about input devices. The teacher declared it profanity, and he served 2 days in In School Suspension. It was pretty hilarious, actually.
Guest Chaos Pudding
It's fine if it's critiquing your paper. But, please, do not use it in the actual paper. It makes you look intensely stupid.

Guest JoshIcy
Using it for notes... MAYBE.Otherwise, use the more subtle "haha" or something. Amethyst Phoenix
I throw dictionaries at people who write and talk in acronyms (writing applies to serious papers). I have literally done this.

Womi
Nah, you should be able to separate Intorwebz and RL.Except you are meant to write such things, but I don't think that's the case very often.
