Why do I need 100 points to make a contest?

You don't. You need 100 posts. It's to filter out noobs making stupid contests.

The rule's only there b/c some of the lower members tend to ditch their contests while they're in the middle of them, according to what Hunter said when he wrote this.

 

But don't spam your way to 100 posts or you won't be able to make a contest at all.
