EliminateHRN
Does anyone here play the guitar? I'm learning how to play both acoustic and electric. I'm not that great though. However, I do know how to play the opening to Metallica's Sanitarium and a little of Green Day's Wake Me Up When September Ends. It's hard work, but I'm loving it so far. I always wanted to try to play songs by Metallica, A7X, and those other bands. So does anyone here play the guitar? And discuss guitars and everything else. LiAM
I got bought a guitar for christmas. Watched the DVD and everything, still didn't understand the chords and numbers. Seems hard to get used to, but good luck. I gave up on learning the guitar xD So I can't play my Rammstein now D=

CinnamonStar
Me used to play acoustic guitar. But I lost interest or maybe I just suck, well probably a bit of both. Guess it's nothing for me. I could play The Bard's Song though.=D
EliminateHRN
I don't really understand the chords, but I'm learning. That's probably the hardest for me, the chords. I actually got an electric quite a few years back, but I couldn't play it, then my parents this past Christmas got me an acoustic along with a tuner, DVD, and all that stuff. Now it's easier to play. I've been watching a lot of videos on Youtube that teaches you songs, some are pretty good to learn songs, others suck.

Dismal Euphony
I've been playing for five years now and, not to brag, I know fair share about guitars. It's hard work in the beginning, especially for those learning acoustic (because acoustic strings are very rough on the fingers), but you can't let yourself give up. Guitar is all about patience and hard work. If you need any help, or have any questions, feel free to send me a PM or something.

EliminateHRN
@Dismal: When I first started acoustic, my fingers got sore easily. I had to toughen them up. I'll make sure to PM you if I need help. @Eurynome: My sister has some sort of keyboard. She doesn't know how to play.
Dismal Euphony
Yeah. I've been playing for years and my fingers still get somewhat sore at times when I play for extended periods of time.
EliminateHRN
Yeah, I could probably play about an hour or so before they start getting sore now. When I first started playing, I hardly could go ten minutes before they start getting sore.

EliminateHRN
Cool. I've been practicing for a while. When I saw that it would take a while for me to play it, I didn't want to play it. Now, I'm the total opposite, I can't stop playing. I've been practicing some songs by video of people teaching you how to play it. I can almost play the opening of One by Metallica. Poc
Chords are hella easy to understand. Learn your scales and arpeggios and then learning chords is easy mode.
EliminateHRN
Um.... Yeah, I'll try learning those. Once I figure what those are.
Dismal Euphony
Chords are hella easy to understand. Learn your scales and arpeggios and then learning chords is easy mode. Well, chords should probably be learned BEFORE scales. Learning scales can get really tedious at times because some of them are just so far-fetched and there are so many types of scales. I mean, it doesn't hurt to learn your very basic scales like C Major and the such, but I'd recommend leaving them for another day. Being able to recognize and play chords is more important than learning your scales, if you ask me. Scales are most useful while composing, but it doesn't really hurt to run through them from time to time as a way to exercise and train your fingers. Learning your arpeggios doesn't really make any sense. An arpeggio is essentially just a chord except the notes are played in succession rather than simultaneously. You're basically learning your arpeggios when you learn your chords. Arpeggios should be practiced only AFTER you learn all your chords and you feel comfortable with your strumming and progressing from chord to chord. Poc
Arpeggios train your ears just as much as your technique. Sure, any one can play chords. Learning to listen to each note of the chord makes everything easier. Same with scales. Knowing what key the song is in, and more importantly how to play that key makes learning a song less tedious. Enrise
I've got mine around 2 years ago. I hardly practiced since. Why? I dunno. But now, since I started listening to more Black and Death Metal, I've been practicing when I got the chance. It's hard work getting the fingers used to the strings, but after a while, the fingers will get so tough that it won't matter. Plus, the upside, is the pedals, which mine is taking a real long time getting here, thanks to the East Coast having storms. The pedals provide different sounds that give variations to playing styles. I would say it's a lot more fun when you're in a band, but... I dun haz band D: I'm just saying. Guitar is actually fun when you get the hang of it. Try different playing styles and such. Starts out rough, but it comes out all smooth...
