Official Magic: the Gathering Thread

Elves can be SERIOUSLY annoying. They have wicked swarming, are cheap as hell, have a special Planeswalker (Nissa), and combo very well. I have a personal vendetta against the Wellwisher (You can tap it to gain 1 life for each Elf in play). The Lorwyn block pumped them up pretty well with all the support.

Right now, I'm checking out the Ally monsters. I saw them iin action today in a Mill deck. The guy was using Halimar Expeditioner (mill X, where X is equal to the number of Allies you have out), Jwari Shapeshifter (comes out as a copy of any Ally), and Umbra Raptor (Flying and gets a +1/+1 counter each time an Ally comes out). It worked REALLY well.

Don't want to make a new thread since I know this is here so I'm just going to bump it.

My friends have been playing MTG a lot in school so I'm starting to get into it.

Right now I've been using my friends Elf deck and I love it' date=' but the problem there is that it isn't mine and he's told me that it's a pain to get the cards. So any idea on what starter deck I could/should get that plays a bit like the Elfs.

If your not really bent on playing competitively and just playing for fun

However if you do want to play on the competitive level there isn't a lot in the game right now that acts like elf's. Mabey vampires or Jund how much you looking to spend

I have a Eldrazi Spawn Token Deck ready and waiting to be built in a notepad, but I still need to test it first, you know, before I actually buy those cards and whatnot.

The thing is, I can't be bothered to download the programs to play online.

I love Wellwisher. My friend only has one, so I only just got around to using it, and it was so much fun to spam.

My friend also has an Ally deck and it seemed really good if he could get the right cards.

Yea, my friend was telling me about that. Problem is it's a pain to find.

I'm not looking to spend that much (20-30) and I really don't care about competitive play. Right now I just want a decent all around deck that I can build from the starter decks. And if I can't get Elfs or something like them that's fine. Again I just want something decent.

So I've been looking at the new starter decks and I like the Blue/Green cards best.

Also why do the starter decks come with 40 cards if the min is 60?

My guess is to encourage you to buy more booster packs - and it leaves you room to put 20 cards that you wanna throw in for good measure.

That is likely it.

I'm kind of mad that I didn't look into the decks before I got one since, as I said, I like the other decks more ten the one I got.

FYI I got a Red/White one.

I get all of them - and pick out what I like.

Red/White? Cool. (If this were the Ravnica block, that'd be considered a Boros deck)

@Xander - Have you considered 'Doubling Season'?

Kinda aiming it to be legal in Standard..

Gotcha. What about 'Hand of Emrakul'? It costs 9 for a 7/7 and it has Annihilator 1. However' date=' you can tribute 4 Eldrazi Spawns instead of paying it cost. It's a thought.

Also, how about 'All is Dust'? I know the card is freaking expensive (mana and money-wise), but it wipes the field of colored permanents - opening the way for your swarm.

I have the following decks:

2 different Eldrazi Fun. Consider 'Polymorph'

Elf Effective, but annoying

Goblin Always fun to use. Check out the Lorwyn block for some good ones

Phyrexian Fun, but risky

5 color Make sure to use lands that give any color

Blue Counterspells are your friend

Vampire Nuff said

Kor Kors are fun. They also go well with the Aurioks from the Mirrodin block

White Green Red Naya, I believe

For a total of 10 decks. I am also working on Rat deck. Friend has a NASTY Rat deck

I know a site where you can buy just about any MTG card you want (and right now, the site has 20 Relentless Rats in stock for $2.50 each).

Oh, and I found a card that might help your deck out. It's an artifact called 'Door of Destinies'. It's a rare from Morningtide. It costs 4 mana to bring out. When it comes out, you pick a creature type. Every time you summon a creature of the chosen type, you put a charge counter on it. Creatures of the chosen type get +1/+1 for each charge counter on 'Door of Destinies'.

Found another artifact that might help. It's called 'Soul Foundry' - it's a rare from Mirrodin. It costs 4 to bring out. When it comes out, you exile a creature card from your hand. You can pay X and tap it to bring out a creature token that is a copy of the exiled creature. X is equal to how much the exiled creature costs.
