Umbra
Quick review from the end of Chapter Five, for those of you that doesn't feel like reading it again: Jonah's up in a duel against a Fairy Duelist named Flora. Jonah only has a face-down monster, while Flora has Tualatin (2800/2500), St. Joan (2800/2000) and Soul of Purity and Light (2000/1800), all in Attack Position. Jonah is down to 100 points, while Flora has 2000. When we arrive here, Flora is just about to attack Jonah's face down monster with her Tualatin. - Tualatin, attack his face-down card!Jonah smiled.- You might want to reconsider that, when you see what I have here! It's my Magic-Arm Shield! Which means, I can redirect your Tualatin's attack to one of your monsters! And I'll think I choose St. Joan!(Tualatin 2800 vs St. Joan 2800. Both are destroyed.)- No! My monsters!Flora then shook her head.- Anyway, I'll have my Soul attack your face-down card.(Familiar Knight is destroyed.)Jonah smiled.- Now, when Familiar Knight is destroyed, both of us can Special Summon a monster from ou hands, as long as it's Level 4 or lower. And I'll summon Freed, the Brave Wanderer (1700/1200) in Attack Position.- And I'll choose Winged Kuriboh in Defense Position. (300/200) Then, I'll end my turn.Jonah smiled, then drew a new card.- Now, that Tualatin's gone, I can bring back Heir of the Tormentor, with a 300 ATK boost!(Heir of the Tormentor 2300/500) And with A.Forces still out, both Freed and Heir gains a 400 ATK boost! (Heir 2300 -> 2700, Freed 1700 -> 2100) - Then, I'll Tribute Freed the Brave Wanderer to summon Freed the Matchless General! (2300/1700 -> 2700/1700) Now, Freed attacks your Soul.(Soul of Purity and Light is destroyed, Flora loses 500 Life Points, drops to 1500)- Then, Heir attacks your Winged Kuriboh.(Winged Kuriboh is destroyed.)- Then, it's your turn. Jonah could see that Flora at this time became nervous, but she drew a card. And at Jonah's surprise, she smiled.- I'll activate Change of Heart! Which means, I can take control of your Heir!(ATK of both Heir and Freed drops to 2500)- And then, I'll summon Kiriyama the Priest (0/0) in Attack Position. Now, Heir attacks Freed!(Both of them are destroyed.)Suddenly, Flora's newly summoned Kiriyama the Priest began to change. Soon, it had taken a new form.- It's my Sky Scourge Invicil! (2200/1600) Now, attack Jonah directly!(Jonah loses 2200 Life Points, drops to 0. Loses.) Jonah sighed as the holographic images faded away. He had lost. He wasn't too surprised, though. He could see from the start that this girl was an excellent duelist.Just like Susannah. Susannah ran up to him.- How could you lose to her, Jonah?Jonah shrugged.- She was just a better duelist than me, that's it.- I wouldn't say as much.Jonah looked up. Flora had came up to them while they were speaking.- Just the luck of the draw. I just got my cards at the right time.Jonah smiled.- You still won, which means you get a card from my deck.Flora suddenly looked serious. - Yes, that's right.Jonah gave Flora his deck, and she looked it through quickly.- Look at that, Exiled Force.I'll take it.Jonah nodded, and tried to hide his disappointment. Exiled Force was one of the cores in his deck, and also a staple. Flora handed his deck back, and she walked away. Susannah frowned.- Strange girl, that was. I mean, she uses fairies. Who would use Fairies, seriously?Jonah turned to her.- Reminds me. Susannah. I think you've been lying to me.Susannah stared at him, and Jonah could see her blood had frozen.- I-I-I don't know what you mean, Jonah.- You can't deny it, Suzie. When we first met yesterday, you told me you had never played before. When we met my mother, you told her you have trained by yourself and that you've seen Isaac play. And even then, with such limited play, you managed to defeat an Industrial Illusions examiner and summon a monster with thirty-fivehundred attack points in two rounds? There's something you haven't told me, Susannah.Jonah could see that Susannah was stressed, and she looked around.- Well... Well, you see... I...Then, she sighed.- I can't hide it from you, Jonah. Not anymore. In fact, I have been duelling for a while now. A couple of years, at least. And my Venom Deck took ages to build. But a few days ago, I had a strange dream. There was this loud voice that spoke to me. It spoke of a Tormentor, and a Dreadroot. And then, it spoke of you, Jonah. It told me that I should see you. And when I woke up, I found this lying on my forehead. She picked up a card from her deck, and showed it to Jack. He was terrified by the sight. The name was Daughter of the Tormentor, and on the picture, he could see Susannah. However, she was dressed in a white robe, and holding wands in both of her hands. - How can... How?- And when I saw you duel here, and use that Heir of the Tormentor, which looked just like you... I think there's a connection there, Jonah. Where did you get it?Jonah shivered.- I got it in one of the tins. It was my prize.- That proves it, Jonah. There's something wrong with this tournament. Jonah shook his head.- You're changing the subject, Suzie. She frowned.- It's Susannah. Not Suzie. Anyway, there is strange forces at work here, Jonah. We better be careful. Guest Ixigo
Whoa, Flora won? I didn't design her as the type to defeat the main character, so it was kind of surprising. Well, it works anyway - maybe sets it up for a rematch later. Is Kiriyama your own creation or an already existing card (can't be bothered to check - I noticed that you only put custom card descriptions at the end of the chapters though)? Nice card. Anyway, I have to say that the dueling in this chapter was a little... anti-climactic, I mean, the tables turned around twice before the one having the upper hand at the time could do anything with his advantage, which was kind of disappointing. But I still like the way the plot goes. -Plot: 8/10 (Like the development in the latest chapter)-Characters: 9/10 (Well, you didn't introduce much new in this chapter, and the way Susannah just... blurted out everything was a bit unexpected, but they are still working great - just make sure that they act realistically)-Grammar/Syntax/Structure: 9/10 (Same as before - if it's not broken, don't fix it)-Description: 8/10 (Well, a slight fluctuation in some parts - by the way, just a note; give a little bit of description on the monsters that are summoned, even the non-custom ones. It gives a better feel)-Dueling: 7.5/10 (Eh, it wasn't anything great this chapter - basically short and direct)-Overall: 8.3 (It certainly wasn't your greatest chapter this far, but I still liked it. Keep it up and try to maintain the quality at the high level you usually write in.)
Umbra
I could have made Jonah lose in Flora's attack with Tualatin, (or, shortly after it) but it just wouldn't be the same. I'm glad you liked Kiriyama, though.

Umbra
Jonah and Susannah walked down the street. All around them, people were dueling, and all of them were surely in the tournament. But all of them also seemed occupied currently, and Susannah spat at the ground.- There's no one here to duel, Jonah? What are we s'posed to do while we're waiting? At first, Jonah didn't hear Susannah's voice. He was too concentrated on the mysterious dream. What is this Tormentor? I know I've heard the name somewhere, but I can't just seem to place it. But how is it related to Susannah and me? What is all of this about? And how can we solve it?Suddenly, they heard a shout from one of the duelists close to them, and the shout struck Jonah with fear:- I sacrifice my two Mystical Elves and my Cyber Dragon to summon Obelisk the Tormentor!Jonah almost fell down of the shock. That's it! Obelisk the Tormentor, one of the egyptian gods! But still, how can it be? Susannah turned to him.- Jonah? Are you still there?Jonah began to breath heavily.- This Tormentor! I know what it is!Susannah stared at him.- You haven't yet? It's the God card, of course. I don't know why it is, though.Jonah's eyes flung open.- You knew, and didn't tell me?- I thought you already knew. I thought you were the smart one.Jonah smiled.- Anyway, you should've told me.- Jonah Morae?Jonah and Susannah turned around, and saw a man wearing black clothes, a wide hat, and for some reason, wielded a katana on his back. Beside him stood a girl, probably around Jonah's age and maybe a little older, with blue hair and large, red eyes.- That would be me, yes. Why, you wanted anything? The boy frowned.- Of course we do. I wish to duel you, and so does Shiki.Jonah stared at them.- What, two on one? I can't take that. Susannah's stepping in on my side. - Right, Susannah?Susannah smiled briefly.- You don't have to ask me, Jonah. Of course I will.Jonah nodded at her.- Well, I guess that's it. Who wants to go first?Shiki smiled.- I think I'll do that. After all, it's ladies first. And since we only have two boys and one little girl here, I think that would be me.Susannah glared at her.- You can talk, Chicky, but can you duel?Jonah stared at them, and saw the tension spark between them. This was not going to be easy. He looked at Isiah, who just slapped his forehead and shook his head. Apparently, he was used to this sort of thing. Isiah stepped in between them.- Girls, relax. To settle this, I think we should flip a coin. They both stared at him with anger in their eyes. Shiki even snapped at him.- A coin? Isiah, you can be so lame sometimes. I'll go first.Susannah shrugged.- Fine, if that can stop your blabbering. I'll go after you.- As always, Susannah. Isiah'll go after you. - And then Jonah goes after him. Good with you?Shiki nodded at her. - Then, I suppose we begin? All four of them briefly loaded their decks into the Duel Generators, and drew five cards each. Then, Shiki drew a sixth card, and smiled. The duel had began.- I'll go first by placing one card face-down, then discard Twin Summoner from my hand to activate it's effect, and Special Summon Infinity Dark (1500/1200) to my side of the field! And then, I'll Second Summon it!Jonah nodded. This girl was running a Gemini deck. He only heard of Gemini monsters a few months ago, but had learned that they should be handled with care. And with that said, Jonah could figure out what the face-down card was. Shiki continued.- I'll end my turn with that. You go next, Suzie.- Gah! It's Susannah, not Suzie! Can't anyone learn?!She drew a card.- I'll place 2 cards face-down, and Set a monster. Next.Isiah nodded at her.- That would be me.He drew a card.- I'll start off grand, by activating Beguiler's Choice - Gardno! I pick up the top eight cards in my deck, and then show them to all of you.As he spoke, images of eight cards appeared infront of him. They were Zombie Spawn, Crook's Crow, Beguiler's Edge - Lorah, another Crook's Crow, King of Death - Lorah, Check and Mate, Spawn Rook, and Judgment Day.- During each of our Standby Phases, each player selects a card of these eight. If one of you selects a card, it is sent to the Graveyard. If one of us selects it, it goes right into my hand. And since my Standby Phase has already passed, I can't select a card right now. But I'll summon Vain the Beguiler (1400/900) and equip it with Beguiler's Edge - Illus, which increases it's ATK by 300 points. (1400/900 -> 1700/900) Then, I'll end my turn with a face-down card.Jonah drew a card from his deck, then looked at the eight cards. - I'll let you ditch that Beguiler's Edge - Lorah. As he said this, Beguiler's Edge - Lorah faded away.- Then, I'll summon Command Knight (1200/900) in Attack Position. And it's effect gives it an extra four-hundred points! (1200/900 -> 1600/900) - Then, I'll end my turn. Shiki grinned at him, then rapidly drew a new card.- I'll let you have your Judgment Day, Isiah.Judgment Day lit up in a bright light, and then faded. -Thank you. It can come in handy. She smiled at him.- You owe me one. Anyway, I'll activate my face-down, Ultimate Offering! It lets any of us summon any number of monsters we want, as long as we pay 500 Life Points each time. But Life Points doesn't matter to me! First, I'll summon my Shadow Delver (1500/500) in Defense. Then, I'll pay 500 Life Points to Second Summon it. (drops to 3500) Then, I'll activate Mystic Plasma Zone! It gives all DARK monsters on the field a 500 ATK boost, but a 400 DEF drain. (Infinity Dark: 1500/1200 -> 2000/800, Shadow Delver 2000/100) Then, I'll use Shadow Delver's effect and let Infinity Dark attack Suzie directly!- What?(Susannah loses 2000 Life Points. Drops to 2000.)- And then, I'll let Shadow Delver attack her face-down monster.(Venom Serpent is destroyed)- That ends my turn aswell. Your go, Susannah.Susannah drew a new card, and Jonah could see her face lit up. I think I know what's coming.- First, due to Beguiler's Choice, I'll send your Spawn Rook to the Graveyard.- One of the cards faded away, and disappeared.- Then, I'll activate my two Snake Rains, enabling me to send eight Reptiles from my deck to my Graveyard, which gives me a total of nine, and I'll place another monster face-down. Your go, Isiah.Isiah drew a card, then looked at the five remaining.- Hmm, which one shall I choose? I'll go for one of the Crook's Crows.Suddenly, all cards faded away. Jonah stared at Isiah.- What?He smiled.- Didn't I tell you? When four cards have been selected, the rest come to my hand. Simple, isn't it? But it gets worse. Now, I can summon King of Death - Gardno! (2600/1900) And since he's a DARK monster, he's affected by the Mystic Plasma Zone! (2600/1900 -> 3100/1500) And then, I'll place a card face-down. And then, I'll attack your Command Knight with Gardno!(Command Knight is destroyed, Jonah loses 3100-1600=1500 Life Points. Drops to 2500.) Your turn, Jonah. Jonah drew a card, and looked at it. He shivered. He hadn't put this card in his deck. But apparently, someone else had. - I'll activate Eye of the Tormentor! It lets me Special Summon Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800/1600) and Heir of the Tormentor (1700/900 -> 2200/500) in Defense Position. Then, I'll end my turn with a face-down card.Shiki smiled, then drew a card.- I'll end the duel for Suzie here and now! I'll use Shadow Delver's effect to let Infinity Dark attack her directly!Jonah shook his head, and smiled.- Nuh-uh. Activate Trap Card, Magic-Arm Shield! It lets me redirect the attack to another of your monsters. Let's say... Gardno?(Infinity Dark is destroyed, Shiki loses 3100 - 2000 = 1100 Life Points. Drops to 2400.)- You'll pay for that, Jonah Morae. I'll end my turn there.Susannah drew a card.- Perfect. Just what I wanted. I'll play Venom Serpent (500/500) and place a Venom Counter on that Gardno. Then, I'll pay 500 Life Points to Normal Summon again! (drops to 1500) And this time, it will be big! I Tribute my Venom Serpent and my face-down Venom Serpent to summon Vennominon, King of Poisonous Snakes! (0/0) And he gains a 500 ATK and DEF boost for every Reptile in my Graveyard. And that's eleven! (0/0 -> 5500/5500) And so, I'll go for that Shadow Delver of yours, Shiki!(Shadow Delver is destroyed, Shiki loses 3500 Life Points. Drops to 0.)Shiki looked at Isiah. - You can win this without me, Isiah. I think it's his turn now, right?Susannah nodded.- Yes. Isiah, your turn. Isiah looked at her, then down at the field. Then, he drew a card and smiled.- I'll summon Cestus the Beguiler in Attack Position! (1800/1000) And then, you'll face eternal oblivion in the shadows of doom! Because I activate my face-down card! Judgment Day! I can only activate it when my monster's combined ATK is higher than your Life Point total. But then, I can summon the most powerful monster in my deck!As he said this, a giant angel wearing red robes and wielding a burning sword appeared above him. Strangely enough, the angel's face looked just like Isiah.- My Judgment King of Death - Isiah! (?/?) And his original ATK and DEF becomes equal to the combined ATK of all monsters I control! (?/?=6500/6500)Jonah and Susannah stared at the giant angel. This surely didn't look good... Guest Ixigo
Whoa, excellent chapter. I really liked the tag team duel - those are always difficult to pull off. You never posted a description for Eye of the Tormentor though. Other than that, not much to comment on. -Plot: 8.5/10 (Starting to get thicker now...)-Characters: 9/10 (I like your use of custom characters)-Grammar/Syntax/Structure: 9/10 (I do not have any complaints there)-Description: 8/10 (Again, same as before)-Dueling: 9/10 (Good tag-team work in this chapter)-Overall: 8.7 (Getting better and better - keep it up!) Guest Ixigo
Uh, isn't Eye of the Tormentor like, horribly broken? I mean, it's just imbalanced just... summoning any two warriors out of nowhere, but a Pot of Greed added to that? I know it's pretty much... intentional for Tormentor cards to be overpowered, but I think that's too much... I'd suggest adding a catch, that may be revealed later on. That's just my view though. Umbra
A quick review of last chapter, for those of you that just came: Jonah and Susannah walks down the street. Jonah discovers that the Tormentor cards are somehow related to the Egyptian Gods, but are then challenged to a tag duel by a man named Isiah and a young lady named Shiki. Shiki is currently out of the duel, but it still seems Isiah is winning. He activated his trap card Judgment Day, which allowed him to summon Judgment King of Death - Isiah, a monster with over 6000 attack points! This doesn't look good for Jonah and Susannah... Jonah stared at the giant angel and it's burning sword that lit up the entire field. It had 6500 attack points, and the only one that was close to being able to defeat it was Susannah's Vennominon, with 5500 attack points. But she also had two face-down cards. Jonah had two monsters, thanks to his Eye of the Tormentor, but no face-down cards. Isiah smiled.- Your luck's coming to an end, Suzie! I'll crush your Vennominon with my Judgment King!(Judgment King 6500 vs Vennominon 5500. Vennominon is destroyed, Susannah loses 1000 Life Points. Drops to 500)Susannah started to laugh, and Isiah looked at her.- Why are you laughing, Susannah? I just destroyed the strongest monster in your deck! She shook her head, still laughing.- You might have taken down the King, Isiah, but you can never take down the God of Venom! I'll activate my two Rise of the Snake Deity! Which allows me to summon two of the strongest monsters in the game! Vennominaga, Deity of Poisonous Snakes! (0/0) And just like Vennominon, they both gain a 500 point boost for each Reptile in my Graveyard! (0/0 -> 6000/6000)Isiah stared at the two giant snake-women that had appeared infront of Susannah. Six thousand attack and defense points? And two of them? This can not be! - I'll end my turn with a face-down card.Jonah drew a new card, and looked at the Judgment King.- That angel of yours is dead now, Isiah. I'll end my turn with a face-down card. Your go, Susannah.- Thank you, Jonah. She drew a card.- I'll activate Venom Shot! That enables me to send 1 Reptile from my deck to the Graveyard, and place 2 Venom Counters on one of your monsters! I'll send Daughter of the Tormentor to the Grave, and put the Counters on your King of Death - Gardno! And since my Daughter's in the Graveyard, she's treated as two Reptiles, giving my Vennominagas a thousand extra attack and defense! (6000/6000 -> 7000/7000) Then, Vennominaga attacks your King of Death - Gardno!(7000 vs 3100, Isiah loses 3900 Life Points. Drops to 100. Judgment King of Death drops to 3400/3400) - Then, my other Vennominaga attacks your Judgment King!Isiah smiled.- Big mistake, kid.(7000 vs 3400. Isiah loses 3600 Life Points, drops to 0.)Suddenly, the angel began to twist and twirl, and its skin started to glow.- My Judgment King's Special Ability activates! When it's destroyed, all other cards on the field go down with it! And on top of that, both of you take 500 points of damage for each card destroyed!(Jonah and Susannah loses 1500 Life Points. Both drop to 0.) Jonah looked around. The duel had ended in a draw. He could see Shiki at Isiah in the back.- Way to go, Isiah! You really showed them how to duel!Isiah shook his head.- If I had done that, I would have won. But now, both of us lost. All four of them gathered up in the middle. Susannah and Shiki glared at each other, but Jonah focused on Isiah.- You're like us, Isiah. There's something about you that's not right.- What do you mean, Morae?Jonah glanced at Isiah's Duel Generator.- The Judgment King. It shared your name, and your appearance. That doesn't seem strange to you?Isiah looked at Jonah.- It did. But then, it all was explained to me. It came in a dream, which told me about an everlasting war between us and something called the Pantheon. At this point, Susannah was interested.- Us?Isiah nodded.- The voice that came to me called himself the Avatar, and of his allies the Dreadroot and the Eraser. You too, on the other hand, are servants of the Pantheon, and carry the curse of the Tormentor. You must be taken care of.Shiki came in aswell.- That's why we came here. As agents of the Avatar, it's our job to watch the Pantheon's heirs and dispatch them if necessary. Now, our mission is done and we'll take our leave. At this point, Shiki turned around and walked away. Isiah still stood, and he turned to Jonah.- I understand that you have questions, Morae, but they will be revealed in due time.Susannah looked at him.- What, you expect us to believe all this? I mean, the whole Tormentor thing is strange, but an everlasting war between the gods? What do you think this is, Silmarillion or something? You'll have to come up with something better than that.Isiah shook his head.- The girl can't handle it just yet, Jonah. Watch over her. Then, he walked after Shiki and they faded into the distance. Jonah looked after them.- Strange pair, them two. We should be on the lookout for them.Suddenly, it started to rain. Clouds had gathered while the duel, and now the rain fell. Susannah looked sad.- Really nice weather. Come, let's get inside.Jonah and Susannah ran off. It wasn't far from Jonah's house, so they wouldn't have to run for long. On the roof above them, a mysterious shape stood. The shape looked human, but seemed thinner somehow. It was dressed in a long, black robe, and wore a black cloak on top of that. Shadows seemed to gather around the shape as it stood there.- Temptress, are you there? The shape nodded.- The test has ended, Father. Morae and Gendevan managed to get Tonoma and Helghast into a tie.- A tie? Hmm, interesting indeed. Monitor them closely, and keep them under control. We don't want them to run into Indigo. The shape nodded again.- Right, Father. I will keep them under watch.

Umbra
Sorry for the late update, but here's Chapter Nine. Jonah and Susannah ran through the heavy rain. It had started out slowly, but soon the sky opened up and it felt like a river pounded down on them. Susannah sighed.- Couldn't have been worse, could it? Feels like we're drowning or something.- We'll be home in a minute, it's right here.Suddenly, Jonah's house came within view. The rain was so heavy you could barely see thirty feet ahead. Jonah smiled.- There it is!Both of them ran up to the house, and into the small garden. Suddenly, WJonah could see two people standing in the living room. One of them was his mother, and the other was a young man with black, spiky hair. Jonah gasped, and opened the door. Susannah followed him close by. Inside, Jonah could now see that his mother was dueling this unknown man. He knew that his mother was an expert duelist, but this other man was winning on her. From the Duel Generators, Jonah could see that his mother was down to 600 Life Points, while the man had not yet been damaged. - Now, Bringer of Catastrophe, attack her directly!A tall angel dressed in black robes appeared infront of the mysterious man, with a purple-glowing blade in his left hand. He rushed up at Mia, and slashed at her. She screamed. What Jonah hadn't seen before was the shadows around his mother, that grappled her around the waist and legs. Then, she fell down onto the floor. She began to cry. Susannah stared at the black-haired man.- Who's that? What's happening here? The man smiled at Susannah.- The name's Rataval. And you're not going anywhere, either of you.Jonah suddenly felt an urge to walk forward, and he saw Susannah do the same. Jonah's mother looked up.- Now he has you in his grip aswell. She continued to cry. Susannah rushed up to her, and knelt beside her. - She's cold, Jonah. And I don't think she's breathing.Jonah stared at Rataval.- What have you done?Rataval shook his head. - I can't tell you such matters, young Heir. I might be able to tell you after a duel.Jonah was angered.- A duel? Is that was this is all about? If you want a fight, then you'll get one.He pulled up his deck, and placed it in the Duel Generator.- You'll live to regret this, Rataval. You'll pay for what you did to my mother.- You won't live to avenge her, Heir. Let the Duel begin! Both of them drew five cards. Jonah looked at his hand. Rataval smiled at him.- Since I challenged you, I begin. He drew a card.Jonah growled. Like I had a choice. - And I'll start off with the Spell Card, Children of Doom. By removing a Fiend in my deck from play, I can summon 2 Malevolent Sister Tokens (400/300) to my side of the field, in Defense of course. Then, I'll tribute one of them to summon Caius the Shadow Monarch! (2400/1000) And then, I'll use his effect to remove the other Malevolent Sister Token from the game, and you take a thousand points of damage!(Jonah drops to 3000) - Then, I'll end my turn.Jonah drew a card.- I'll summon Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800/1600) in Attack Position. Then, I'll activate Release Restraint, and Tribute Gearfried to Special Summon Gearfried the Swordmaster! (2600/2200) Now, Gearfried attacks Caius!Rataval smiled.- Nuh-uh. I'll discard Bringer of Doom from my hand to activate his effect and halve your monster's ATK during Battle. However, your monster isn't sent to the Graveyard.(Gearfried 2600/2=1300 vs Caius 2400. Jonah loses 1100 Life Points, drops to 1900)Jonah glared at him. - Guess I'll end my turn there.Rataval drew a card.- I'll Tribute Caius, and discard Prodigy of Doom from my hand to activate it's effect. I can search my deck for a Spell Card and add it to my hand. Then I'll discard Knight of Doom to search my deck for a monster and add it to my hand. And as my final maneuver, I'll activate my new Spell Card! Lingering Spirit in the Grave! As he said the last words, shadows began to gather around Jonah's feet, whispering and growling. He stared at them in fear.- What in the name of...Rataval smiled.- The Dread approaches, Heir. And he is not happy. Now, for his associate! My Lingering Spirit Spell Card activates. I can remove three monsters with Doom in their name in my Graveyard from play to summon Bringer of Catastrophe (3000/3000) to the field! The air behind Rataval seemed to shake, and the robed angel appeared behind him. Jonah gazed upon it with fear in his eyes. This was the monster that his mother had lost to. - Then, he'll attack your Gearfried!(Gearfried is destroyed, Jonah loses 400 Life Points. Drops to 1500)- And I'm not even done! By removing a card with Doom in it's name in my Graveyard from play, I can Special Summon another monster in my Graveyard! And I'll remove Children of Doom to bring back Caius! (2400/1000)Jonah stared at his two monsters. I don't feel good about this.- Then, I'll end my turn with a face-down. Your go.Jonah drew a card, and looked at his hand. A plan began to form inside his head.- I'll summon Marauding Captain in Attack Mode. (1200/400) And with his effect, I'll summon Dark Blade (1800/1500). And then, I'll activate Eye of the Tormentor to summon another Dark Blade, along with Command Knight in Defense. As you know, Command Knight gives all of my monsters a bonus. (Captain: 1200 -> 1600, Dark Blade 1800-> 2200, Command Knight 1200->1600) Along with that, I'll play The A. Forces, which gives all of my warriors a total of 800 extra points! (Captain 1600 -> 2400, Dark Blade 2200 -> 3000, Command Knight 1600-> 2400)Rataval shook his head.- Neither of your monsters are strong enough to take down my Bringer of Catastrophe.- Maybe not. But your Caius makes a good target! Dark Blade, slash his monarch!Rataval smiled.- Don't think so. Activate face-down card! Doom Hole!Suddenly, a dark hole in the air appeared infront of Caius.- It blocks off your attack for now, and also forces the Battle to end. Jonah growled.- Guess I'll have to end it there.Rataval smiled, and drew a new card.- You'll end in more than one way, Heir. I'll activate Catastrophe's third effect, and remove Caius from play. Then, I can place 2 Catastrophe Tokens (1500/1500) on the field, in Defense. Then, Catastrophe attacks Command Knight!(Command Knight is destroyed. Marauding Captain 2400 -> 1800, Dark Blade 3000 -> 2400)- And I'll end my turn there. You go, Heir.Jonah growled, and drew a new card. - I'll equip Dark Blade with Fusion Sword Murasame Blade, raising his ATK to 3200. Then, I'll attack Catastrophe!Rataval shook his head.- Bringer of Catastrophe is invincible! I just have to destroy one of the Catastrophe Tokens, and then your attack is blocked off!One of the Catastrophe Tokens disappeared, and Jonah growled. - I'll end my turn with a face-down card.Rataval drew a new card.- I'll activate my Field Spell Card, Doom Dimension! The shadows gathered even thicker around Jonah, and Rataval smiled. - Doom Dimension burns off 400 Life Points from you during each of our Standby Phases, and gives me half of that. Then, I'll attack the weaker Dark Blade!(Catastrophe 3000 vs Dark Blade 1500. Dark Blade is destroyed. Captain 1800 -> 1600, Dark Blade 3200 -> 3000) - And I'll end it there.Jonah drew a card.Doom Dimension:(Jonah drops to 1500, Rataval raises to 4400) - I'll Tribute Marauding Captain and Dark Blade to summon Gilford the Legend! (2600/2200 -> 2800/2200) And with his effect, I'll return Fusion Sword Murasame Blade from the Grave, and equip it to him! (2800 -> 3600) Then, he attacks the Catastrophe Token!(Catastrophe Token is destroyed.)- And then, I'll end my turn.Rataval smiled, then drew a card.Doom Dimension:(Jonah drops to 1000, Rataval increases to 4400)- I'll activate Dimension Fusion! I can pay 2000 Life Points, and then Special Summon as many monsters that are removed from play as possible! (Rataval drops to 2400) And I count four! Prodigy of Doom,(1200/800) Knight of Doom,(1500/2300) Bringer of Doom (1500/1300) and Caius (2400/1000) comes back! And then, I'll activate the Spell Card Doom Drain! - By removing one Doom monster on my side of the field from play, I can decrease the ATK of one of your monsters equal to it's ATK until my next turn. However, I can't attack that monster during my turn. I'll end it there.(Caius is removed from play, Gilford's ATK drops to 1200)Jonah drew a new card.- First, I'll -Suddenly, a shady circle appeared infront of Gilford. A sabre shot out of it, and ran through him on the spot. Then, he exploded, and Jonah fell down on to the floor. He saw his Life Points drop to 0. The shadows closed in on him, covering him in darkness. He could barely see anything, just Susannah standing a few meters away. But was there someone else? Someone behind Susannah, walking up to her? Was there...? Susannah had stared in grief at the events. Jonah's mother had grown colder as the duel went worse for Jonah, and now she felt like ice beneath Susannah's fingers. Jonah had lost to this Rataval, and Susannah knew that this was more than just a loss. Jonah was dying, just like his mother.
Umbra
Susannah couldn't stop the tears. Both Jonah and Aunt Mia was dying on the floor, and their soon-to-be murderer stood just a few feet away from her. She wiped the tears from her eyes, and looked at Rataval. You! You'll never get away with this! I'll make you pay!Rataval shook his head.- I don't think so, Daughter.- Don't call me that, I'm not your daughter!Rataval smiled.- Not my daughter, of course not. You're the Tormentor's daughter, Nephtys. He had emphasized the last word, and it hit Susannah with a shock of memories. The creation of the Pantheon, the war of the worlds, and their evacuation from the Temple. How they had came here, and she had released her Phoenix to give light of the world. Her Sacred Phoenix. She looked at Rataval, with a fire burning in her eyes.- You say so, Rataval, and I shall reply!Suddenly, a snake materialized from Susannah's Duel Generator. She recognized it as a Venom Serpent, and she shrugged. She didn't care anymore. All that mattered was Rataval, and his death. Behind him, the robed angel appeared again.- Enough, you two! From behind them, a vague shape materialized. A woman wearing a red leather suit, and had a Duel Generator strapped to her wrist. Her skin was pale as the moon, and her eyes burned like two suns. To Susannah she didn't seem too frightening, except for the burning eyes, but Rataval was apparently shocked, as he took several steps back when he saw her.- Lilin?! Why are you here? The woman turned towards him.- Haven't I told you to keep away from the Heir and his family? Father wants them for himself.Rataval shook his head.- Your father, with all the power he might have, is a fool when it comes to the Tormentor's Heirs. I told him centuries ago that the descendants of the Tormentor should be dispatched by the ones that find them first, to eliminate risks, but he wouldn't listen. His senses are not as they should be, Lilin..- Enough! Release them from your spell, Avatar, and we'll go! After all this, Father would want to see you.Rataval thought for a few seconds, then sighed.- Fine.Suddenly, the shadows disappeared around Jonah and his mother, and both of them began to cough. Susannah ran up to Jonah, and shook his shoulders.- Jonah, Jonah! She heard Lilin's voice from behind.- Take care, girl. You might be safe for now, but Father's mind might change. Then, both Lilin and Rataval disappeared in a flash of light.- Susannah...?Jonah had woken up. Susannah looked down at him, and the tears came again. This time, they were tears of happiness. A few hours later, both Jonah and his mother were fully awake. They were wrapped up in blankets, since the shadows' grip had left a cold in them and they were now trying to get warm. They were sipping on some tea that Susannah had found in one of the cupboards, and felt altogether quite comfortable. Jonah's mind wandered as he thought over the past day's events. After he had passed out in the shadows, he had came to a place he knew he would never forget. Not under the circumstances it appeared. He had came to the roof of a tall skyscraper, and around him the sky was covered in darkness. On the other side of the skyscraper stood a man, wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans. He had short, brown hair, and green eyes. Jonah was confounded, and walked up to him.- Who are you?The man smiled. - The name's Alex Regal. I guess you've met Rataval, by the means you arrived here.- You know Rataval?Alex smiled. - Of course I know him. I met him a few years ago, just after I had discovered my legacy.- Legacy?Jonah didn't understand, and Alex nodded at him.- This. He picked up a card from his pocket, and showed it to Jonah. He stared upon it, for he had seen several cards like it in the past twenty-four hours. - It's my Avatar card, Regal Necro-Mask. It's a Dreadroot Avatar, and therefore, my soul belongs to the Darkness. And you're a Tormentor Avatar, that I can tell. And therefore, Rataval has sent you to me so that I can retrieve your Avatar and turn it here.- What, you want my card? Is that was it's all about? My mother's dying out there, all because of a card?Alex shook his head.- Not just a card. It's your Soul. And your soul is a very powerful being. With you being one of the Tormentor's Heirs, your soul might very well be the weight that outbalances the scales. If so, the world - all the worlds, for that matter, - will be plunged into the Dread. And there waits nothing but slavery, for all. It saddens me that I had to be the one fulfilling this task, but now I have been selected, and so I will do. I challenge you, Jonah, and the fate of the Multiverse lies at stake!Suddenly, a new shape emerged from behind Jonah.- Jonah? He turned around, and saw... his mother?- Mam? How did you...?His mother sighed.- Oh, Jonah, there's so much I need to tell you. But we'll have to wait with that until we get back.- Back?Jonah turned to Alex.- Where are we?Alex shrugged.- Somewhere in the Multiverse. If I'm not entirely mistaken, we're on the roof of a Skyscraper, which means somewhere in the Central Ring. I'd guess for Hero City. But let's get back to business, shall we? It seems like Rataval managed to gather another one - your mother? - of the Tormentor's Heirs, so the examination would then be a two-on-one. And you both got to agree that's not acceptable. So I'll summon another duelist to my aid, the Twin Queen!- A flash of blue light appeared next to Alex, and a girl about sixteen stepped out of it.- You needed me, Alex?Jonah twitched. That voice was familiar...- Shiki?Shiki looked at him. Morae? You're the reason we're here?Alex seemed very surprised, and Jonah smiled at him. At least - Hang on, you've already met him?Shiki shrugged.- Me an' Helghast met him yesterday. Just a normal Examination. He didn't manage to bring that annoying cousin of 'is with him this time, did he?Jonah glared at her, and she smiled. Alex shook his head.- Anyway, the Battle shall commence. As Alex' words faded, the sky around them changed, turning even darker. Jonah was frightened by the sight, but shook it off. Alex nodded.- I'll go first, followed by Jonah, Shiki and Jonah's mother, in that order. That's ok with everyone? One by one, everyone nodded. Alex smiled.- Then, the battle shall commence! While the four of them quickly loaded their decks into the Duel Generators, Jonah quickly thought over the situation. The fate of the world? Multiverse? And my mother knows something about it?Alex looked at his cards, then drew a sixth. Jonah sighed; the duel had truly began. He had quite good hopes for this duel. He and Susannah had beaten Shiki before, and Alex didn't seem like that much of a duelist. However, Alex smiled.- I'll start off with Necro Corpus (0/0) in Defense Position. And with his effect, I can add Necro Hero - Malus (1400/0) to my hand. And then, with Malus' effect, I can Special Summon Necro Hero - Colitha (2300/0) from my deck! And then, with Colitha's effect, Malus enters the field aswell. I'll end it with a face-down.Jonah sighed. Apparently, Alex was a better duelist than he thought. In just one turn, he had managed to summon three monsters, one of them with more than two-thousand attack points. He drew a card, and hoped for the best. - I'll summon Heir of the Tormentor (1700/500) in Attack Position. Then, I'll place two cards face-down. Your go, Shiki.Shiki drew a card.- I'll summon Aquarian Alessa (1500/500) in Defense Position. Then, I'll place 1 card face-down. That ends my turn.Mia nodded. Jonah was suddenly hit by a thought. He knew that his mother was a duelist, but not what deck she ran. He stared at her as she drew a card.- I'll play Warrior of Zera (1600/1600) in Attack Position. Then, I'll play Sanctuary in the Sky!Jonah smiled as the grand halls of the Sanctuary in the Sky appeared around them. His mother ran a Archlord deck. He knew that kind of deck well enough to know what was going to happen.- Then, I'll tribute Warrior of Zera to summon Archlord Zerato! (2800/2300) And after that, I'll discard Mystical Shine Ball (500/500) to activate Zerato's effect and destroy all of your monsters!Alex shook his head.- I'll activate my face-down card, Solemn Judgment. I'll pay half of my Life Points, and negate your Zerato's effect. (Alex drops to 2000)Mia nodded.- Ok. Then, I'll attack your Colitha with Zerato.(Colitha is destroyed, Alex loses 500 Life Points. Drops to 1500)- And then, I'll end my turn.Alex drew a card, then he smiled.- Shiki, would you mind?Shiki smiled back at him.- Sure not, Alex. I'll activate my face-down card, Ultimate Offering. He nodded.- And I'll use it! First, I'll Tribute Necro Corpus and Necro Hero - Malus to summon Necro Hero - Dreadwalk! (3000/0) Then, I'll pay 500 Life Points to summon Necro Hero - Abyss! (drops to 1000) (500/0) And then, another 500 Life Points to tribute Abyss and summon another Colitha! (drops to 500) And because of it's effect, Abyss returns from the Grave! Now, Dreadwalk attacks your Archlord! (Archlord Zerato is destroyed)Mia smiled.- As you know, I don't take any damage from a battle with a Fairy-type monster with my Sanctuary out.Alex smiled back at her, and Jonah could see a bewildered look behind his eyes.- Maybe, but I have other monsters! And this time, your Fairies can't help you! Colitha, Abyss. Attack her directly!(Mia loses 2800 Life Points. Drops to 1200)- I'll end it there. And with that, my Abyss is sent back to the graveyard. Your go, Jonah.Jonah drew a card. - I'll activate Paladin's Blessing. I gain 400 Life Points for each monster on the field. And with five of them out, I'll gain 2000 Life Points. (Increases to 6000)And then, I'll summon Marauding Captain (1200/800) to the field. And with his effect, I'll summon Nucleas Protector (0/0) in Defense. Then, I'll attack Aquarian Alessa with Heir of the Tormentor.(Aquarian Alessa is destroyed)- Then, I'll attack Shiki directly with Marauding Captain!(Shiki drops to 2800)Shiki glared at him.- Done yet, Jonah? He nodded, and placed a card face-down.- You go.She drew a card.- I'll make this quick. I activate Ace of Twins. I can remove 1 Gemini monster in my graveyard from play, and draw 2 cards. If any of these cards would be a Gemini monster, I can Special Summon them. But otherwise, they are discarded. She drew two cards, and showed them to the rest: Il Blud and Heavy Storm. She smiled, but Jonah was terrified.- My Il Blud enters the field! (2100/800) And then, I'll summon Malevolent Sister (1000/1000) in Attack Position. And with Ultimate Offering, I'll Second Summon Malevolent Sister! (Shiki drops to 2300)- And therefore, since Alex's Dreadwalk is on my side of the field, I can increase my Sister's ATK to 4000! The Malevolent Sister smiled at Jonah, as she turned towards the Dreadwalk and rose her hands. A string of purple emanated from the Dreadwalk, and the Malevolent Sister grew to twice her normal size as she absorbed it. - Malevolent Sister, attack Mia directly!- Not so fast, Shiki.Alex had spoken. She frowned at him.- What, Alex?- Your Malevolent Sister can come to better use. Especially when I activate this! Judgment Night! I can only activate it when all monsters on my side of the field has higher combined ATK points than my opponent's Life Points. But then, I can summon Necrotic Judgment Angel! (0/0) A fiend with feathered black wings appeared infront of Alex. It grinned at Alex, then at Shiki's Malevolent Sister. It looked back at Alex, who nodded. - Now, you can attack, Shiki.Jonah was confused. Why would Alex interrupt Shiki's attack, just to summon a weak monster? It didn't make sense. At least, it made a perfect target for his trap. Shiki twitched.- Fine. Malevolent Sister, finish her off!Jonah smiled. - Nope. Activate Magic-Arm Shield! So, the attack is redirected to a monster of my choice! Namely... the Necrotic Judgment Angel!Alex smiled.- Go for it. Just remember my Judgment Angel's effect.(Jonah takes 4000 damage. Drops to 2000.)Jonah was shocked.- How the...Alex smiled again.- My Judgment Angel can't be destroyed by battle. And also, any Battle Damage I would take from a battle with it goes to you instead.- That's... That's...- Powerful, isn't it? And also, really useful.Alex turned to Shiki.- You done? She shrugged.- Guess so. Your go, Mia.Jonah could see that something concerned his mother. He was concerned himself. Why didn't Alex let the damage go to his mother instead. She would have been out of the duel, and it would have been his turn. Jonah shrugged. Guess he forgot.- I'll play Radiant Jeral (1000/2000) in Defense. Then, I'll use Ultimate Offering's effect, Tribute Jeral and summon Airknight Parshath! (drops to 700) (1900/1400) And with Jeral's effect, I gain a thousand Life Points.(Rises to 1700) - And then, I'll tribute Parshath to Special Summon Neo-Parshath! (2300/2000) And then, I'll attack Malevolent Sister!(Malevolent Sister is destroyed, Shiki loses 1300 Life Points. Drops to 1000. Neo-Parshath's ATK rises to 3200)- And when I have higher Life Points than my opponent, Parshath's ATK increases equal to the difference. With Parshath's effect, I can also draw a card. (Draws)I'll end it there.Alex drew a card. - I'll activate Mystic Plasma Zone. The sanctuary was surrounded by a thick darkness, and Jonah could sense energy in the air.- It gives all DARK monsters a 500 ATK boost, but a 400 DEF drain. But since my monsters already have 0 DEF, I don't really care about that.(Dreadwalk 3000/0 -> 3500/0, Colitha 2300/0 -> 2800/0, Il Blud 2100/800 -> 2600/400, Heir of the Tormentor 1700/500 -> 2200/100)Jonah gasped. With the Sanctuary gone, his mother was almost defenseless. - Dreadwalk, attack Neo-Parshath!(Neo-Parshath is destroyed, Mia loses 1200 Life Points. Drops to 500.)- Colitha! Attack her directly!(Mia loses 2800 Life Points. Drops to 0. Loses.) Alex nodded.- You're out of the duel for now, Mia. Jonah will have to make this top-notch for him to win now.Mia glared at him.- I know he'll make it. The Pantheon's Blood runs in him.Alex growled.- I end my turn with a face-down. Your go, Jonah. Better win this quick if you want to make it. Jonah drew a card. He didn't have good hopes for the duel; he had three monsters out, but none of them was strong enough to take on Alex' Necro Heroes or Shiki's Il Blud. It was hopeless. He looked at the card, and was surprised. This would save him. This would win it for him.- I Tribute Heir of the Tormentor, Marauding Captain and Nucleas Protector to summon Gilford the Lightning! (2800/1400) And since I tributed three monsters to summon him, his effect activates! The end is near!(Dreadwalk, Colitha, and Il Blud is destroyed.) - Then, I'll activate Agile Execution! By decreasing my Life Points to 100, my Gilford can attack twice! (Jonah drops to 100) Gilford, attack Shiki and Alex now!(Shiki and Alex drops to 0) Suddenly, the air around the Skyscraper began to twist and twirl, and the world seemed to bend around it's own axis. Jonah felt like his head was going to explode, and he passed out on the floor. After that, he didn't remember anything until he had woken up on the living room floor. - Jonah? He turned, or as good as he could beneath the blankets, around and saw his mother. He nodded.- I know, Mam. But that'll have to wait, I need some rest. - We can't wait, Jonah. If Alex was right, then the Tormentor's bloodline can be in danger. That includes us, Jonah. He twitched.- Alright, tell me. But make it quick. She smiled at him.- It started seven weeks ago...
