The designers at Konami had a Christmas party and all got trashed. They decided to play a prank on Konami and change the design of the Wicked Avatar who was in the making. However, due to their intoxication, they fell asleep with ink pen in hand and the blob that you see now is the Wicked Avatar.

first, i am the king of awesome. second, your logical train of thought doesnt make sense. for a quick aside, lets look at the corollary. if acting awesome means you arent, does that mean that in order to be awesome, you have to act un-awesome? sounds pretty stupid.

 

next, you don't have to study japanese, and i am young. that's another faulty assumption you've made. perhaps you need to re-read my post for content so you know what you're speaking of. that aside, if you want to critique the art of a country, you should know something about their artistic backgrounds. otherwise you're just spouting idiocy.

 

third, the japanese version of this card is 'the devil's avatar'. (and you can just wiki the card to find this out. you don't need to be a weeaboo.)

i know what an avatar is, you trollhat. and since you didnt bother to find out what the card's name was pre-translation, your continued argument on it is irrelevant.

 

shinto mythology posits that the devil, or their equivalent (essentially just the embodiment of all evil), takes on the form of a dark orb. an orb is a sphere, btw. it doesn't say it's a dark orb, but it kind of is. anyway, this dark sphere transforms into various shapes, representing the shapelessness of evil, or rather it's ability to take on all shapes. it's symbolism, you trollhat.

 

next, it doesn't represent nothingness. it represents omnipresence. omnishapefullness. etc. so maintaining a the conceptualized form that's recurrent in shinto mythology makes sense. it's not quite as decorative as yami from okami, and it lacks an eye like the megaman boss there, but that doesn't really make it 'stink'. seriously, look around at japanese media. you'll be surprised how often it comes up. the original homunculus from fma brotherhood is of the same form. as is the second to last boss of kirby 64. those two come to mind immediately, and i'm sure there are plenty more.

 

now that we've established it's shape and form are predetermined, let's look at the actual followthrough:

a perfect sphere of absolute darkness. check. not much you can do here. some people give it an eye or teeth, to try and liken it to a human. some would carve designs on it. but they weren't going for that interpretation. they were trying to emphasize the absolute abyss of it. the perfect empty darkness. unmarred, unmarked, just plain evil. they were also trying to give it a "i can be anything" design. whereas okami's interpretation transformed mechanically, this is closer to fma's interpretation, of a blob-esque form. i think they nailed it, honestly.

 

it takes up most of the frame, so they couldnt add much around the edges. they just kind of added a glow to it. something like a radiance of energy and power. it's done fine. and.. that's it. only 2 real elements to this picture. so maybe you just don't like simplicity and symbolism. that's fine. but your argument should be of the form: "i don't like the simplicity and symbolism of this, and think they could have gone with a more fantastic interpretation of evil", instead of trying to argue that the picture is bad or 'stinks' for doing exactly what it set out to do, and quite well. honestly, you're just petulant and arrogant at this point.

second, shinto doesn't have a devil. at least not one by a strict western definition. there are spirits, there are gods, and anyone of them can be evil. being an evil god in this sense is the same as being a devil (if you aren't adhering to the strict catholic interpretation of it). so being an incarnation of an evil god, it would blah-blah-blah all the stuff i already said that you argued was wrong blah-blah-blah.
