Kaisu
Yes, I'm talking about the 40hr Famine.I don't know wether they do it in other countries or not, but yeah. Basicly, you choose a famine(No Food(20Max), Talking, Technology... Etc), and get people to sponser you, and you then send all the money to World Vision, who use it to help the developing world countries. This year, I"m doing No Talking (Impossible D:) and No Technology(Bai Bai). If you're in NZ, the famine starts in 2 hours from now. Also, we have 4 teams this time, with an online sponser system. So yeah. It's an annual event for us, the famine. If you say that, it's pretty much always related to this. At least in NZ. Discuss?
Saturn of Elemia
Sounds like a shorter and more publicized version of Lent. At least it's for a good cause. If it happened around here, I'd give it a try.
Kaisu
Lent?Don't know what that is. My sister's doing blindness, she's hitting me with her foot as I type.
J-Max
Giving up something doesn't seem that hard. I couldn't give up Video Games for more then a day though :P

My sister's doing blindness' date=' she's hitting me with her foot as I type.[/quote'] It's like a religious event where you give up something you like for 40 days prior to Easter. (That's the VERY BASIC SHORT version)

Kaisu
You'd die if you did no food.
Saturn of Elemia
You'd die if you did no food. Unless you had nutrients intraveniously pumped into your body (but that's taking it WAY too far). A friend of mine went 40 days without soda. He said it was almost like torture for him - since he LOVES Coke.
tommers2008
I no what lent is, i heard of something like this as well before i think it was just 24hour fast or something, you couldn't eat for exactly 24hours and people sponsored you. Anyway good luck :)
Pikachu
Did that 2 years ago, no technology. I cheated in the 5th hour. >_<
Aximil
Are you able to choose multiple ones? I'd choose no food and no sleep. I do them both all the time on accident. I even spent 5 and a half days being constantly awake. The first 3 days were an accident though since I kept forgetting to go to bed.
Brushfire
I'd do all of them at once for 24 hours. It would be for a good cause.

Sander
I've said it before, and I'll say it again; things like these are only helpful if you have like, 4 or more countries approx. in this. No measly 4 teams are going to raise much money and make a difference. It's still a good cause, but just not effective.
Wuu.
Belgium used to have a no-driving rule every sunday some decades ago.
Kaisu
Actually, it is quite effective. Our school raised over $10,000 dollars. And each team has raised over $50k. OUt of just New Zealand. And you only need $34 dollars for a toilet. 12 for education, and 20 for everyday items.
T3RA PROWL3R
o.o That is expensive for a toilet. Just go to a public place for free.
