Dennys932nd
Well I haven't played duel monsters in years but I just started to get back into it a little while ago and this site helped :D Anyhow, I found my old deck, mixed it around a little bit, and played a few games with some friends. They're mostly old cards since I haven't bought a booster pack in at least 3-4 years. So anyway here it is! Total Cards: 50 Monsters: 25 Red Eyes B. I'm a bit limited on what I can change since most of my cards are probably stacked under 4 years worth of junk in a basement....but how is this? In the few duels I've played with a few of my friends I won most of them. So what do you guys think? Is this any good? Should I swap out one card for something else? etc. Any helpful criticism will be met with thanks.
Mr. Judgment Dragon
What is this I don't even. Please pick a theme / win condition (just throwing together cards of a specific attribute or type is not a theme) then we can help you. Also, you should not be running 50 cards in a Deck. You should be running 40 - 45 cards in here. 45 is even a bit excessive but a few Decks can get away with it (Gadget Decks to decrease their chances of drawing redundant Gadgets). jabber2033
Sorry to say, but...it's crap. It's looks like you just tossed a bunch of random dragons together. That's not how you do it. Dragons is a type, not a theme. A lot of your spells and traps are either outclassed by others or just bad. If you want to get back into the game with a GOOD deck, I HIGHLY recommend buy 3 copies of the Machina Mayhem Structure Deck and build the following: 203x Machina Fortress1x Machina Force3x Machina Gearframe2x Cyber Dragon3x Cyber Valley2x Machina Soldier2x Machina Sniper2x Machina Defender2x Scrap Recycler 123x Shrink3x Solidarity2x Machina Armored Unit1x Swords of Revealing Light3x Hand Destruction 82x Metalmorph1x Ceasefire3x Dimensional Prison3x Compulsory Evacuation Device This is made from cards purely found in the MM deck. It's not really tournament-worthy, but it's much more playable than what you've got. Especially if you want to start playing at a tournament level. Dennys932nd
Well like I said I'm a bit limited on what I can add. But to narrow this down to the number you prescribed, what would be recommended for me to take out? Would it be smart to keep my number of spell/trap cards equal to my number of monsters? Or should one be a little more than the other? If possible I'd like to keep the deck circulating around my Blue-Eyes cards as they've always been my personal favorites. jabber2033
Do you have easy access to better cards? If you have no way to get new cards, then we can't really help. Try buying cards from online. trollandtoad.com. is one of the cheapest web sites that sell YGO cards. Just buy the single cards you need. Many commons are like 50-99 cents each. If not, then can you get booster packs/decks from stores like wal-mart? But really, If you can't buy new/better cards at all, then we can't help. Dennys932nd
Yes, of course I'll probably grab some at a convenience store or something next time I'm in one, but for the time being what could I make out of these? Are they all outdated now? And what do you guys mean by "Theme?" I'm assuming that means what the basic strategy of the deck is?
jabber2033
A theme is the focus of a deck. Saying "Dragons" or "Dark Monsters" is too broad, as there are so many different cards that could be included. A good example of a theme is the TeleDAD deck. They focused on summoning Dark Armed Dragon and using Emergency Teleport to summon the Tuner monsters Krebons and Psychic Commander for Synchro Summoning. Destiny Heroes, Destiny Draw, and Allure of Darkness were used to give the deck massive amounts of draw power. Combined with its Synchro abilities and the Synchro monster Dark Strike Fighter, a TeleDAD deck could win within only a handful of turns. Of course, recent Ban Lists have limited the key cards needed and DSF was banned, pratically killing TeleDAD decks. Here is something more to explain themes and Win Conditions: "Each deck needs a win condition, also called a deck goal, or a manner in which that deck is designed to win the duel. Keeping this win condition in mind when building a deck helps to make that deck more focused. Something like "attack and make the opponent's Life Points zero" is not a specific enough win condition; something like "rapidly gain field advantage to defeat the opponent" for Six Samurai or "use the effect of Crystal Abundance to attack the opponent and win" for Crystal Beasts would be more appropriate. Even though both involve attacking the opponent to obliterate his or her Life Points, the manner of doing so is drastically different. Of course, some decktypes do not involve reducing the opponent's Life Points. Decks focused on cards like Exodia, for example, win by fulfilling different conditions; in this case, fulfilling those conditions by a certain method is the deck's win condition." This was taken from the BASIC DECKBUILDING FAQ which is stickied at the top of the page. I suggest reading that for tips.
Dennys932nd
Ok, I'm starting to get you. So I guess if I think about my deck, it was pretty much just attack attack attack and hope my shining/darkness dragons make it to the field. So if I were to revise it, I guess I'd focus it on getting my shining dragon out, as he's easily my toughest card if I have a good number of dragons in my graveyard. So I should try to get some cards that would help me ease the process of getting out my shining, then making sure he's tough enough to plow through the duel. Is that a good basis for how I should start...er, re-revising my "new" deck? Oh, and much thanks for that website. Xmas is gonna be fun this year :D
jabber2033
Shining Dragon isn't worth it. Trust me. If you do summon it, it'll most likely be WEAKER than the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon you tributed for it. Especially as you should be using Dragon's Mirror. Plus its effect is mediocre at best. It's not worth the trouble. You're better off with BEUD instead of Shining. My suggestion is to build the deck I suggested earlier and get 3 Machina Mayhem decks. Check out the various Machina decks here on YCM and change it around to see what works for you. If you want to stick with dragons, however, your best bet is to work towards a Hopeless Dragon build. I can give you a deck list for that if you'd like. Keep in mind, however, that no dragon deck of any type is complete without 3 copies of RED-EYES DARKNESS METAL DRAGON. Dennys932nd
Well thats why I had all the dragons in the first place. If it's a pure dragon deck, then shining gets a boost for every monster in my graveyard. However, I will admit that he is a pain to summon....(I've only done it a handful of times). So it looks like shining is going on the bench for now. Anyhow I'd be very interested to see that dragon deck list you were talking about. And red eyes darkness metal dragon......the name seems to be a bit overkill but I like it! I might just invest in a few of those. By the way, thanks a lot for all the advice! The Dragon Duelist
Another good deck to try is my Dragon Deck I made. Hold on I will get the list. jabber2033
Here's a classic Hopeless Dragons deck. It basically focuses on sending Dark Dragons to the grave to be revived with REDMD. 201x Dark Armed Dragon3x Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon3x Dark Horus3x Van’Dalgyon2x Red-Eyes Wyvern2x Blizzard Dragon2x Armageddon Knight2x Phantom of Chaos1x Sangan1x Morphing Jar 153x Trade-In3x Book of Moon2x Dragon’s Mirror1x Allure of Darkness1x Foolish Burial1x Future Fusion1x Heavy Storm1x Mystical Space Typhoon1x Burial from a Different Dimension1x Giant Trunade 51x Call of the Haunted1x Mirror Force1x Return from the Different Dimension2x Bottomless Trap Hole 33x Five-Headed Dragon Keep in mind that some of these can get rather expensive. DAD is about $45 alone, for example. Not sure on Van'Dalgyon or Dark Horus, but either of those can be replace with BEWD if it's getting too expensive. Dennys932nd
Thanks to both of you for the lists. I'll probably end up with some combination of those two decks at whatever point down the road. I know I have a good portion of those cards SOMEWHERE (with the exception of the newer ones) but I can't find much aside from what I have right now... Anyway everyone who posted here has been a great help. It really is nice to see a forum that actually tries to help new users instead of jumping on them and ruining the English language with their 1337 talk
