About that episode:

In the anime' date=' people clearly don't know the effect of every card, so it's fair that Yusei's opponent didn't know of this card's existence. For that reason, it was just as likely that Yusei would have a card that would only let him win if the opponent didn't attack in some insane anime-situational way. Really, it was a 50/50 thing, and the move wasn't that stupid.

If I recall correctly, (SPOILERS FOR THAT EPISODE!!!)

 

 

Yusei has zero cards left in his deck and zero S/Ts on the field. All the guy had to do was end his turn and the duel would have been done. But the guy had to be smug or w/e and try to end it by life points.

Again, anime cards. Yusei's in-hand card was just as likely to discard and return cards to the Deck as it was to win by battle. It's impossible to guess in an anime situation.
