Rules with more holes than a smoker's lungs

The Rules of YCM, commissioned September 24, 2007 in the aftermath of Sartorism, are a complete joke, and a blemish on this site that does not even more blemishes.

Take a look at this thread. As if being messy and out-of-order wasn't enough, the rules are 3 years out of date, and little more than generic rules copied from the internet - barely tweaked to this forum's apparently elaborate needs.

I could rant about them all day, but that would mean I not get to the point, which is I was banned for 2 months this morning "in accordance with the regular punishment for rule-breaking mods", which I have never heard and am quite sure only exist in the minds of only one or two of this site's head-honchos.

Apparently, when mods break the rules, there is a standard punishment that, "to prove a point to the masses", must be far more severe than what these masses would and do get.

J-Max was banned for 2 months for "posting severe ecchi pictures which are 17+ in content."

Bloodrun was permanently banned for "excessive trolling."

JerryFreelance was permanently banned for "leaking information from the Mod's Forum."

All fair, hard-line punishment if you ask me. I logged on today to find.

[#1001] Your account has been temporarily suspended. This suspension is due to end on 30 September 2010 - 04:57 AM.

I immediately take my case to JoshIcy over MSN, and after a while of pretending he has no idea what is going on, direct me to Browarod, who apparently deals with the banning of moderators (though that was the first I'd ever heard of it).

I find from Browarod that JoshIcy recommended I be banned for 3 months for - you guessed it - advertising in my signature!

Apparently Josh expected Bro to not take his recommendation on board, so it's absolutely not Josh's fault, okay? It's 100% Bro. [/sar]

Bro, to his credit, quickly reversed the decision after talking to me.

I was not warned once prior to my ban, nor was I informed. I had to log in and find out myself, then go to MSN and figure out what the frak had happened.

As I was saying earlier, that "rule", which many forum owners like me will tell you is barely policed at all, was written nearly 3 years ago, back when the forum was smaller.

Tkill93 and I included it so that this site wouldn't lose members. Now it has 230,000 and it still insists on restricting my humble, 60-member site from trying to keep it's head above?! Very few people leave YCM to join sites like mine. They use both, but no, we want to be greedy here.

Update the rules, kids. Unpin my thread and write some new ones, from scratch! Maybe get some community input so we don't end up with silly rules like Rule 21.

2 months for signature advertising without warning or notification - I'll be damned!

Reece out.

[spoiler=There's no link here so it's not advertising. Kthnx.]Join my site please. I'm sure you'll find the link around here somewhere. Otherwise, PM me. ;)

I say again:

"The only time I remember YCM being in ANY sort of order was 3 years ago when I joined >_> The original staff (including you) handled things very well and I got along with all of you. Now.....the only surviving mod of that era is Crab Helmet (I think?) and she has major ego problems. YCM has been in disarray for a loooong time. It's ashame YCMaker doesn't even ATTEMPT to fix matters. He places to much trust in his power-trippy mods. Granted, some like Yankee and Flame Dragon do a decent job, but still, it's not enough for the whole forum."

Now, I can under ban for advertising,

BUT NO f***ing WARNING?

What the f*** man?

Seriously, this guy kinda sounds like a dick.

You don't instantaneously ban someone, no, unless it's a uber troll, you just warn then ban.

Seriously, now I'm wondering if I'm going to be banned and have this post deleted.

It always happens. When mods see that people are catching on to their behavior, they delete all evidence and ban your ass just because you complain about something that you have every right to complain about. I've seen it happen multiple times here.

Then, when I blamed him, he suggested there was no nobody to blame. Once I justified my blaming of him, he then tried to shift the blame. THAT is low.

I doubt any mod other than me bothers with the advertising in signature (infact Chaos Pudding even has one in his signature, even though it has no physical link) anyhow lately, even then I just tell them to remove it and if they don't remove it myself (Although I can't with this update). So I agree with you that warning should ALWAYS be given when it comes to things like your example. (I don't warn for rips in advance if there's a massive case against them already, if not I like to warn them to prove innocence and tell the consequences if found guilty)

Dood.

Can't Icy do something?

Can't the other mods do anything about this dood?

Seriously, something tells me this guy is going to screw us over or something.

O well.

If I get banned, I always have a plan B.

Seriously, the current rules are indeed ridiculous, and being banned immediately without a warning from the staff is a blatant case of overreaching and overreacting.

Also, I must say, that Josh needs to handle himself far better. You cannot absolve yourself of responsibility for harsh punishments you advocate. You cannot assume that warnings have been given as a justification for that punishment. You cannot blame others for not holding you back when you overreact. It is not the job of others to limit your actions and reactions, that's your job. Take it seriously.

@Yin: Like I said, all that was required was a warning and I would've removed it. I see dozens of forums advertised in signatures and presumed that the rules was no longer policed. Rips I agree are different, as copyright is involved there. This is just member-grab. Trivial and not-warranting of a rule, less a ban.

@VK: I am talking about Icy.

Anyhow, have there even been a mod who been demoted?

Without being banned or resigning? I don't think so, though my knowledge of the last two years at least is scant. But I do what's right, and what's wrong, and this was wrong. :P

I would still like to know more about the Sartorism era...

But who do you expect to write the new rules?

It doesn't really matter. Just someone with good, fair knowledge of this forum.

I've actually half-written a chapter of the Chronicle about Sartorism but never got around to finishing it.
