[Clair] The Power of the Tome

The six warriors strode confidently into the deep cave, towards their destiny. The abyss into which they had hiked smelled of rotting mushrooms and musty air, and the faint drip of water could be heard on the rough, stone floor.

“Okay,” whispered the group’s leader, Lumiara. “We’ve come so far… let us not get separated over this object…”

Every member of the Axion Force knew what this “object” was. It had the power to corrupt or enlighten a person, changing their lives forever.

It was called the Axion Tome.

Each traveler knew the stakes of reading this legendary item, but all were unafraid. After all, each one of them had nothing to lose.

Lumiara and her team finally came to a deep, natural hallway in the bedrock. There, sitting on a crumbling pedestal since perhaps the beginnings of time, was the Tome, encased in a glassware bulb.

The Axion Force looked at one another.

They had done it.

[spoiler=I. Venterri's Transformation]

206253.jpg

Lore: The smallest, and arguably the weakest member of the Axion Force, she is pleasant to all, but extremely gullible. Thus, her alliance swings between her fellow team members, and their different ideas surrounding the all-powerful Axion Tome.

The Axion Force walked cautiously up to the Tome, as if they were afraid it was going to explode. Noctrius, the older brother of Lumiara, flicked his hair back.

"I think, as leader of this Force, it is my duty to read it first."

He reached for the glass ball, but a gust of wind swept it out of his grasp. Noctrius could only gape as shy little Venterri lowered her hands, causing the ball to drop into her arms.

"You know that Lumiara is the true leader of this team," she said, eying Noctrius coldly. He grimaced, lunging for the life-changing power of the tome, but Venterri's eyes went wide, and were filled with a certain light.

She had read the Tome. Everyone stood back and watched her transformation...

206253.jpg

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Once per turn, you can return 1 card you control to it's owners's hand to draw 1 card. When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon 1 "Axion Venterri" from your Graveyard.

... Venterri's eyes went wide, and were filled with a certain darkness. "Oh no!" shouted Lumiara, lunging for the glass. It was too late. She had read the Tome and was obtaining a new outlook on life. Her wings turned black, and her genuine smile curled into a twisted one.

[spoiler=II. Cybirax's Transformation]

206253.jpg

Lore: This outspoken cyborg is the self-proclaimed leader of the Axion Force. He is ferocious in battle, dispatching foes easily with his advanced armor and weaponry. He wishes to obtain the Axion Tome, which will grant him awesome power if he so desires.

The group was only left to stare as Venterri disappeared from the cave.

"I hope she's going to be all right," piped up Lumiara, sadly. "Listen guys. Maybe we should just stop this, right now. It's causing us to lose our bonds!"

She let out a yelp as she was pushed aside by a mechanical hand.

"Oh, move aside, woman!"

Cybirax grabbed the tome before anyone could react, and it wasn't long before his eyes lit up. Lumiara sighed and resigned herself to watching the transformation spectacle.

...it wasn't long before his eyes were filled with the cloudiness of dark emotion. Grimacing, Cybirax yowled as hot pieces of metal were slammed onto his body.

Noctrius smiled, while Lumiara wept.

"I want power, and to get that, I must be corrupt..."

He chuckled to himself as the fully-robotic Cybirax disappeared.

[spoiler=III. Flamma's Transformation]

206253.jpg

Lore: A sly fighter for the Axion Force, this fiery mage has a steely spirit and a blistering flame spell. She continues to search for the power-granting Axion Tome with her fellow companions, hoping it will grant her pure happiness.

Noctrius lunged for the falling glass, but leaped backwards with a yelp as his hand was nearly set on fire by a rogue jet of flame.

"What the hell, Flamma?" he screamed, making the walls shake.

"This item does bad things. I need to destroy it," the fire mage shot back. "You saw what happened to Cybirax!"

"NO!" shouted Noctrius desperately, losing his cool once again. He scrambled towards the ball, but Flamma plucked it off the ground.

"Good riddance, wretched obj-" Suddenly, Flamma stopped moving. Her eyes had made contact with the mystical inscription on the tome, and now they were filled with light...

"Not you too, Flamma..." Lumiara whispered.

Her eyes had made contact with the mystical inscription on the tome, and now they were filled with darkness...

Flamma cried out as her small body was engulfed in flame. Lumiara screamed, and did not hear Noctrius chuckling to himself. Lumiara was still shouting her name when the third Axion disappeared from the cave.

206253.jpg

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by the effect of "Axion Tome". [spoiler=IV. Noctrius's Transformation]

206253z.jpg

Lore: The older brother of the leader of the Axion Force, he likes to think of himself as the true leader of the team. Cunning, merciless, and strong, he is arguably the most powerful member of the Axion Force. However, unknown to the others, he plans to use the Axion Tome to gain infinite wealth and power, dominating everyone he believes to be beneath him.

Noctrius let out a war cry as the ball fell once more to the ground. He was not going to be denied this time.

Lumiara let out a gasp at this unleashed ferocity. Her older brother clutched the glass greedily, but his expression turned to one of pure horror as his eyes were filled with light. "I'm not a saint!" he screamed, engulfed in a sunlight-filled radiance.

206253t.jpg

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Once per turn, you can decrease this card's ATK by 1000 until the End Phase to return 1 card to it's owner's hand. When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon 1"Axion Noctrius" from your Graveyard.

... his eyes were filled with darkness.

"Yes!" he screamed, a scream of pure ecstasy that chilled Lumiara to the bone. Dark lightning crackled around Noctrius as his body erupted with a dark aura. He was smiling the whole time, ignoring the pain. His body disappeared with a crack.

Corruption was his element.

206253.jpg

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by the effect of "Axion Tome". Once per turn, you can remove 1 "Axion" card in your Graveyard from play to remove 1 card your opponent controls from play. This card is unaffected by Spell Cards. When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon 1 "Axion Noctrius" from your Graveyard.

[spoiler=V. Lumiara's Transformation]

206253d.jpg

Lore: This courageous and adventurous girl brought the Axion Force together in order to locate the legendary Axion Tome, which, according to legend, can corrupt or enlighten people upon being read. However, this leader is more concerned about her new-found teammates, and will stop at nothing to protect them.

Lumiara shook as she approached the tome. This object had torn her team apart, and now she was the only one left.

She had the urge to smash the mystical glass to pieces, but then who would stop her brother?

She grabbed the sphere and prayed for enlightenment, which she received.

"Why do I feel like I'm forgetting someone?" she whispered, as her body was engulfed in radiance that only the Tome could bring.

206253b.jpg

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Once per turn, you can negate 1 attack from a monster your opponent controls. When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon 1 "Axion Lumiara" from your Graveyard.

... which she did not receive.

Lumiara's eyes filled with shock as her body rose into the air. She still kept her light...

However, a roar could be heard from the depths of the cave. A gargantuan beast leaped from the shadows, aiming directly for her throat.

Lumiara braced for impact. At least she would be with her brother...

206253.jpg

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by the effect of "Axion Tome". Once per turn, you can pay 1000 Life Points to destroy all other cards on the field. When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon "Axion Lumiara" from your Graveyard.

[spoiler=VI. X-factor's Transformation]

206253e.jpg

Lore: The newest addition to the Axion Force speaks a language no one can understand. However, it has proven to be an invaluable asset to the team in their search for the Axion Tome. The humanoid uses otherworldly technologies to fend off it's enemies. This alien hopes to use the Tome to finally return home...

As usual, they had forgotten about X-Factor...

The green alien walked out into the empty room, where the tome lay on the floor, no more human hands to clutch it.

Humans... always in "want"...

However, X-Factor had a "want". X-Factor wanted to go back home. Those humans had used him... and now he was done.

X-Factor snatched up the tome with spiky fingers, his eyes glowing.

"Please take me home..."

206253q.jpg

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by the effect of "Axion Tome". Once per turn, you can look at the bottom card of your and place it on top of your Deck. If you activate this effect, gain 500 Life Points. When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon 1 "Axion X-Factor" from your Graveyard.

... his eyes darkening.

He waited for his body to disappear, but it didn't happen.

X-Factor could feel himself transforming, but he wasn't going anywhere. A single tear dripped from his inhuman eyes.

Letting out a foreign wail of sadness and homesickness, the alien snared the globed tome and smashed it to the floor. He watched in wonder as the light from the shattered glass shot up from the ground with tremendous force.

People can still see the crater today.

Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can look at 1 card in your opponent's hand and place it on the bottom of his or her Deck. first off Vanillas used this way = Win.

you know you have good vanillas when i bother to read them ^_^

It reminds me of my favorite monsters (The Charmers) So thats bonus points for me.

The pictures all fit together and are awsome.

The effects are all good and awsome too.

All this together?

Epic win 10/10 and a rep.

Originality factor is pretty good.

I like the cards a lot, not broken but not completely useless either.

'Cept for maybe Corrupted Lumaria...

They remind me of Grepher a bit due to the Corruption and Enlightenment.

I'll give you 9.95/10 for these.

Because I don't do perfection.

Pretty sinister, yeh. Definitely the best story I've seen for just a set.

They are good Clair. Nice orginality with them as well. Also great story... 9.75/10

Thanks. I tried to make it a good story. So that, if you didn't like the cards, hopefully you would like a story.

And vice-versa. ^^

...I have to say, that was a wonderful story you wove for the cards. Cannot deny that.

Next, all the cards seem balanced enough for me. I can't nitpick anything there.

The entire set is nice, and there really isn't much more I can say about them.

Wonderful job Clair.

Awesome. Thank you, Dane. :D

D= I hate you Clair! I had the exact same idea before, except I was gonna call them Fallen or Risens...

JK about hate.

Still, I like the cards =D Especially Noctrius.

;_______;

Thanks. Corrupted Noctrius is my favorite. <3

Yeah.. this set was all about the story.

Lumina is harder to Summon than JD. D:

I'll take that rate. ^^

The story was nice, but I feel any Deck would be woefully inconsistent.

Yeah... they rely on one card too much. =/

i spent 10 minutes reading this...ur epic........please dont stop making cards. u humble people like me who think there bttr then most......10/10

Thank you, Impact. ^^

Wow great story and the cards are good to

I know how to fix that =O

Make it like Dark Calling is to Dark Fusion. Make a searcher that is part of the Archetype, but does not have forms, who can recycle (Woodsman).

I suppose they could use some support. xD

Thanks for the idea.

This is what makes Normal Monster's Great.

A great effin story Clair. ;D

Glad you think that. ^^

Thank you. ;D

  • 3 weeks later...

It's a good story, I was wonderin why everyone became enlightened then evil but then I realized it's either not both.

I felt silly.

Can't talk about the cards as I haven't played enough, but why will corruption cause you to be attacked by a monster?

Rule number 59 of dark heros: Don't fall to darkness without proper preparation, Corruption causes a massive likeliness of pissing the f*** outta nature. Expect to be mauled by a rhino at every moment.

Thanks for the random comment, Nev. xD

Ohhh, because I guess the monster attacking Lumiara (I'm assuming you meant her) symbolized corruption/evil.

deep stuff.
