Apparently this is banworthy because it sets up for broken plays. Now to those who think that, don't you think that maybe just maybe those broken plays themselves are more at fault than this.

Discuss the card and its list position.

Well while what you said is true, Cold wave stops any retaliation from the opposing player. And it freezes them for the next turn too. So they are pretty screwed. I would like for it to stay a 1, but most likely, it will be banned in the March format.

It freezes you for a turn as well so if you need to retaliate against the opponent's plays with say Solemn Judgment or Bottomless Trap Hole (they wouldn't necessarily be used against your opponent's broken plays but would be against plays that could pose a threat to you), you can't do so in that manner. Now this is only for a turn but in a better format, the turn probably wouldn't matter too much but in a quicker format where 1 turn can easily make a difference, the turn would definately matter. Now I'm sorta thinking this card's best list position for some reason would depend on the format.

Broken. Enables OTKS, and it should be banned. It creates an OTK from any situation where you can put more than 8000 ATK on the board, so it's not like you can just ban "broken OTKs" and make this balanced.

The same could be said for Heavy Storm and Giant Trunade. Also, in a good format, how would you be able to quickly and consistently put on the board 8000 ATK anyway? If you're able to do that in a good format, then said format is obviously not a good one.

People tend to try to assassinate me when i do Cold Wave + JD, it's better than Heavy/Giant + JD!

OT: Even though this card tend to create OTK's, it's not banworthy since they are restrictions! What makes this card really broken are the plays you can make with it that tend to put the opponent in an annoying situation so i guess it's perfectly good at 1.

SS a monster or two over the course of a few turns. Cold Wave. GG.

Play any swarm deck. Cold Wave. GG.

You act like all OTKs have to be some coherent 3-4 card combo that can be consistently drawn into. Any situation where you have A. a decent number of monsters, B. Cold Wave can be an OTK situation.

Does it matter if you do it first turn, or eighth turn? The whole reason why people think OTKs must be fast is to avoid the opponent having set-up that can stop it. With Cold Wave, whatever set up they had is irrelevant, so no matter how early or late you got an OTK field, it's the same.

Even if you just whittled your opponent down, and they only have 3000 LP, it doesn't change anything. You are still going to have game most likely as soon as you play cold wave. Just because you didn't win by OTK doesn't change the fact that in that situation, cold wave is an Auto-Win.

Decks that rely on spell/trap (i'm thinking ritual decks, for instance) are invalidated by early cold wave plays as well. Essentially reducing them to being able to do nothing but take hits while you get a large set up, which they will have difficulty taking out, because on the following term they cannot respond as well. So basically, you get two turns for the price of one; one to set up your game field, OTK or not, and if they survive one turn to solidify the advantage until it is insurmountable.
