Pet loss.

My praying mantis died after she laid an egg sack. I really miss her and am very sad. She was a nice pet and a beautiful one too. So I want to make this thread a memorial to all the lost pets of the users here on YCM, so come and share a story here, If you like I provided a form to use but you don't have to go into this much detail if you aren't comfortable doing so.

App:

Pet's Name:
Age (When you got it and when it passed away):
Description of life:
Description of Death:
Anything else you wish to say to or about your pet.

Here's my story.

Pet's Name: Monty/Monique (More on this later.)

Age: I got it when it was 3-6 months old (approximately) and she died when she was 1 year old (approximately.)

Description of life: Monty/Monique was a very interesting pet, I was fascinated with hermit crabs and wanted to get 2 of them. I waited for about 1-2 months for them and when they finally got them in they were the huge ones that looked a bit ugly. I was fed up and wanted a pet really badly, so I was searching the discovery channel shop and saw this praying mantis cage, but no eggs! So I decided it would be cool to get a praying mantis. I told my friend about it and he said my local pet store had some. I asked the lady if they sold them and there they were, three mantises. 1 was brown and the other 2 were green, I choose one of the 2 greens. Shortly after my buying of the mantis they went out of stock. (Of mantises) We were fascinated by the brutality of it eating the crickets like corn on the cob. We got an even bigger shock when "Monty" molted and grew a lot bigger. Now we presumed he was a male when later we found out it truly was female. Anyways it molted twice more and on the third molt it grew wings! We were truly in awe of this beautiful creature.

Description of Death: When "he" laid an egg sack we truly were surprised. We knew it was female because it laid the ootheca (A mantises egg sack.) we left it at my family's friends house when we went on vacation and took her back with us. I decided on the name "Monique" because a character in a book I was reading was named Monique. (Maximum Ride Nudge's real name is Monique.) On Sept.26 I found here at the back of the cage and presumed she was hunting. The next day we found she was dead. I sprayed her to check and the touching part was she waved one limb weakly at me before I picked her now dead body and removed it from the cage. Almost as if to say one final good bye before she left me.

Anything else you wish to say to or about your pet. Goodbye Monty/Monique you will always be remembered. :)

Edit: I really don't need people posting junk about how you can't love a mantis or some sort of animal, unless your not posting a story or providing reference or sympathy, crude humor doesn't help.

I'll fill out the app just for making things simple, but this is kinda hard to write. Emotions and all that.

Pet's Name: Barney (Named after the Flintstones character)
Age: Died when he was 12.
Description of life: Barney was a simple dog, but a great one nonetheless. He was never really full of energy, though. When he was a puppy, he was pretty wild, but he got less and less active as he got older. However, he was sweet. He cared. He was like a best friend and a brother to me. He was just a really fantastic dog and I'm glad I had him as long as I did.
Description of Death: Not much to say about it. Just a simple dog's death-- put to sleep. Here's the story;
In late January of 2010, around the 21st, Barney was diagnosed with cancer when we found out that some of his fatty tumors didn't look right. Things were the same until the 24th. On the 24th, the tumors started to bleed. I kinda knew he'd be going soon. We took him to the vet daily trying everything to help him. On the 27th, when we took him again, they told us that the humane thing would be to put him to sleep. We didn't wanna do it so suddenly, though, so we took him home for the night. It was sad. I couldn't sleep at all. So, on January 28th, 2010, we took him to the vet. We walked into the room, and the vet walked in. They asked me and my father if we were ready. We said yes, and things happened. I wrapped my arms around his neck for one last hug, and as the vet slowly took the life out of him, I held him closer than I ever had before. The day after that, I skipped school. The 28th was probably the saddest day of my life.
Anything else you wish to say to or about your pet: I don't exactly feel comfortable saying more.

this was a truly sad story, i'm a softy and shed some tears for my mantis. I can't imagine how painful it was for you.

@Byakuya that wasn't necessary. I said you didn't have to use the app but you persisted to say something, this is a serious thread.

Pet's Name: Hammerhead
Age (When you got it and when it passed away): God knows
Description of life: A goldfish who got his name from headbutting the other fish in the tank to death. It also had one eye, from headbutting one of those stone castle spires.
Description of Death: Suicidal. All there is to it. He killed all the other fish in the tank, no matter what size. And when I decided to stop sending fish to their deaths, he simply headbutted the tank wall, like he was trying to escape. He headbutted himself to death.
Anything else you wish to say to or about your pet: What the f*** was wrong with you?

Pet's Name: Blaze.

Age: 15.

Description of life: Blaze often sat around the hose, doing nothing in particular. However, she never hissed at anybody, and she was always very energetic. Sure, Blaze sat around the house, but she never sat in one place for too long. She would bring in mice and dirt from her week-long excursions outside, with her pals Daisy and Jackie. They were good friends. xD

Description of Death: She was found sitting in one place for too long. Old age...

Anything else you wish to say to or about your pet: She lived a good life, and I don't feel bad about her death at all. I still miss her, but she did leave us kittens. <3

I had a couple of Red and white Koi (The smaller variety you can keep in a Tank. I named them Scampi and Lemon as I thought they were cute names lol. 1 Day I found that Lemon was missing... It then dawned on me. Seems that Scampi had the Munchies that night and mistook Lemon for Lunch. I cried a lot after that... Scampi luckily died of old age. I had him for 4 Years until in the end he passed away peacefully... I miss my fish.... :(

Wow, that was actually quite sad Tim, I nearly shed a tear. It seems that you loved that Mantis.

MP - I have a dog called barney, what an odd coincidence.

I've had a couple pets die, but I was too young to remember them I only remember that I had pets but they died. I can't even remember how they died.

I'm glad I could express my feelings properly.

@J-max how sad, I had fish and 1 lived for 2 years but I was to young to really be sad. In grade 1 we had 3 frogs, 1 ate another so we had to let them go.

Pet's Name: Esther
Age: 12
Description of life: Esther was a great dog, quiet, a bit of a scaredy-cat, but friendly. My parents found her on the side of the street. She didn't have a collar, so we took her in. She was pretty wild as a puppy, but got less energetic as she got older. I was very close to her and spent a lot of time with her. One of my fondest memories was her staying in my brother's and my room until we fell asleep before going downstairs to my parents.
Description of Death: Well, she didn't only die of old age, because she apparently caught a dog sickness that was going around. It hit her especially hard because she was so old. She was weak, had a blue tongue and could barely breathe. My parents called my friend's dad, who was a vet, and after me and my siblings said goodbye to her, she was put to sleep.
Anything else you wish to say to or about your pet: I really miss her. I almost started crying while i was writing this. :(

Aw, man. That's so sad.
I had to fight back some tears about my dog too. I miss him a lot.

Pet's Name: Missy
Age (When you got it and when it passed away): 1 and 14
Description of life:
Always fun and energetic dog even to right now she still is. She would always chase birds and run around in our yard. When I was still young we had a baby gate blocking the stairs. i was downstairs and Missy jumped down the stairs and broke her leg. At that time i was sick with the flu. We would both be laying on the ground watching cartoons. I remember when she went outside with the cast she was chasing birds like always and was funny to see her chase birds with her leg. Last winter we had so much snow and it was so hard for her, she could barely walk. But she made it through and in the summer she barely ate anything. She has been going blind and deaf and now can barely hear and can only see a feet or two in front of her.
Description of Death: The first week of November 2010. im watching her last few days slip away :'(

Hmm.. Let's see.

Pet's Name:Thomas(After a tank engine =/)
Age (When you got it and when it passed away):Dunno, and dunno. Got it from a friend..
Description of life:Thomas was basically the fastest snail in the world. And it was smart. And funny. And resourceful. And downright awesome. When Silver(My goldfish) began poking him, he would hide inside our boat. When we put in an air pump(shaped like a car from the movie Cars) it would crawl into the car and get a bubble massage 0-O To stop Silver stealing all the food it would just crawl up out of the water and I would pop in some food. In a minute, he would have crawled back down with the food, out of reach for the fish.
Description of Death:My theory is that Silver ended up killing him by mistake... I found him trapped in a corner of the tank with the boat pressing against him. He had died of starvation as he couldn't get food while trapped. I figured he would come out and get food, but... No, he had died.

Pet's Name:Toby/Tina(No idea what gender it was =/)
Age (When you got it and when it passed away):From when it was a rabbitlet(?) to about 2 years old.
Description of life:It was a rabbit. S/he/it had these scary red eyes. They would almost glow in the dark. Ironically it's fur was a fluffy white. We should feed him salad, lettuce and carrots. It hates onions, which was funny. It preferred celery over everything though =/
Description of Death:I don't even know how it died. It would normally smash itself against the cage when we(My sister and I) came out to feed it but... It stayed inside. When we walked up to it with a torch, it was already dead. Yesterday's dinner hadn't even been touched. My mum decided to bury it with some celery. That was a joke, but... Sentimental, for me. So... Yeah. My first pet, gone so quickly ;-;

Pet's Name: Waggzy
Age: It was my mum's dog (old doggy), and it died when I was 2.
Description of life: The best dog a human could ask for. From what I faintly recall (hard to remeber stuff since I was 2) she was awesome, and wouldn't growl at anyone in the family. Because I was so small, I'm sure I probably rode on her back once or twice.
Description of Death: Waggzy was old, and was found (occording to mum) dead in it's favourite spot in the garden, under a tree. We actually laid a piece of comfortable stuff you put under mulch or something there for her to sleep on. We love her so much that the object thing is still under that tree.
Anything else you wish to say to or about your pet. Waggzy, you were awesome. You will always be missed.

Another story of loss of pets.
In class, we had a frog. The teachers. Then someone bought 2 frogs that she owned to school, and we kept them as well. Then, one frog escaped. Then, another one escaped. We aren't sure which one, for this next bit, but the grade across from us found one of our frobs squished against a wall. Apparently it was on the wall, and somebody (most likely the teacher) pushed their chair back and....Eww.
We only had one frog left, the other was never found. I'm sure you noticed I used past tense there. That's because our finalk frog, the teacher's, dissapeared as well. Then, on a Tuesday (yesterday, infact) it was found, in the female teacher's bathroom. My teacher bought it back to the classroom in its diening moments. It's skin was dry, and it was hardly moving. My teacher thought that turning on the small lightbulb heater might save it, but, horror of all horrors, the heater, even though connected, and apparently in perfect condition, wouldn't turn on. And so, sadly, the frog died.
Most of my class reckon we should burry it somewhere nice, like the teacher's house, and I put up the idea for this;
R.I.P
Freddo
????-2010.
You will be missed.
So far, neither of these ideas have gone ahead.

Topic title made me lose the game. <_<

On that note, I'm a cold heartless monster, as anyone I've modded or spoken to can attest to, so naturally I have no soft spot for animals. Never had a pet.
[/quote]

If your a heartless monster then get out! and that was a sad story about the frogs. may I ask what grade are you in?
