[M.D.] Caius, Granmarg, and Romulus

Of the new "Monarch" monsters I've made, these are my favorite. The upgraded forms of "Caius" and "Granmarg" and the Fusion of the originals.

Enjoy.

Effect: If you Tribute “Caius the Shadow Monarch”, you can Normal Summon this card with 1 Tribute. You can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 3 monsters. If you do, until your End Phase, this card is unaffected by card effects. When this card is Tribute Summoned, you can remove from play a number of cards on the field equal to the number of monsters Tributed to summon it. If any were a DARK Monster Card, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.

Effect: If you Tribute “Granmarg the Rock Monarch”, you can Normal Summon this card with 1 Tribute. You can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 3 monsters. If you do, until your End Phase, this card is unaffected by card effects. When this card is Tribute Summoned, you can destroy a number of face-down cards on the field equal to the number of monsters used to Tribute Summon it.

Effect: “Caius the Shadow Monarch” + “Granmarg the Rock Monarch”
You must control both of the above Fusion Material monsters. This card is always also treated as an EARTH Fiend-Type monster. This card cannot declare an attack during the turn it is Special Summoned. When this card is Fusion Summoned, you can destroy up to 2 face-down cards and remove from play 1 card on the field. If it was a DARK monster card, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent. When this card is destroyed, you can Special Summon 1 of the Fusion Material Monsters used to summon this card from your Graveyard in Attack Position.

Since your loss is felt by the opponent wouldn't tributing less be a BAD thing. STo counter this, make the bonus for using the right monarch better.

For the fusion, make the special summoned monster be in defense mode. Even though going from 3600 to 2400 is good, 2400 is still a very good ATK to stop a good number of cards. Plus you can do some combos like, attack with it, let it die, then sing for an extra 2400 giving 6000 points of damage with one card.

Really cool cards btw.

I thought a single Tribute would make it easier to get a 3000 ATK beatstick out. Would you suggest something like the right "Monarch" counting for two Tributes, ie one tribute but removing two cards from play?

I'll reduce the ATK to 3200 and make it so you need to control at least one of the fusion materials to summon it. Summoning it in Defense Position makes it vulnerable to a lot of cards, so I'll keep it Attack Position. (As for combos, "E-Hero Absolute Zero" is broken; a "De-Fusion" clears the way for its fusion materials, possibly doing more damage than this)

Thanks for the comment.

Yea, both fixes work.

Do what? No. Keep the Monarchs at 1 Tribute. Do not make them remove 2 cards, as only 1 monster was tributed.

aius and Granmarg: Situational summoning is situational. They defeat the purpose of doing that >_> Moreso Granmarg, becaue Caius gets protection.

Caius: OK, so you tribute up to 3 monsters, and remove 1 card from play for each? .... *Activates Fires of Doomsday while controlling another monster. RFPs 3 cards* In a DARK deck, getting this card out would be so broken. It can't be stopped by Stardust, and it's easily summoned, seeing as it is DARK.

Granmarg: Meh... not too bad... but kind of pointless.

Romulus: What is this I don't even...

*Fuses and destroys/RFPs and deals 1200*
*Destroys with Dark Hole, Clearing the field*
*Special Summons Caius/Granmarg*
*Uses Reborn, RFPs their Spell/Trap, potentially last*
*Attacks for a turn total of 6800 (Effect+ATK), most likely game*

A specific case, yes, but it is achievable with other cards as well.

Still... I guess... it SOMEWHAT balances it, that you must control one of the Monarchs.. .but cards like Prisma and Phantom of Chaos would make that SO ridiculous, and in a Monarch Deck, Monarchs aren't hard to get out.... *Shudders at Plantnarchs*

An opponent that activates "Fires of Doomsday" when a "Caius" monster is summoned is asking for trouble. And although it's easy to summon; after that first turn, it's vulnerable to effects, so it could walk into a "Dimensional Prison".

I suppose "Granmarg" could be used to get rid of most of your opponent's back row.

You can compare "E-Hero Absolute Zero" used with "De-Fusion". Yes, "Romulus" is powerful, but needs one of the materials on the field and has no innate protection effect, so could easily be got rid of with a card effect.

The original effect required both materials to be on the field. Should I return to that older version?

Alright, you completely missed the point. I meant TRIBUTING Fires of Doomsday for Caius, not using them to defend.

Yes, because ability to get hit by other cards means it's balanced. DAD says hi. It can be D Prison'd.

As for Romulus, saying it is easily killed is NOT a defense against it being broken. Absolute Zero does not get rid of Spells/Traps, nor does it bring back one of its own materials.

Oh, and saying that you have to Granmarg or Caius to summon it? HI-larious~ Getting Monarchs out in a MONARCH deck is so easy, it's not even funny. Also, Prisma and Phantom of Chaos.

Ah. So, activate "Fires of Doomsday" at the end of your opponent's turn and then use them as fodder. That was a mistake.

Can you make the others like the light, thunder, ice, fire, storm monarchs
Once these have been balanced and modified, I'll change the other "Monarchs".
Just the "When this card is Special Summoned" effect. The revival is fine, without those.
Okay. Now modified.

Everyone is forgetting Delg the Dark Monarch...... :(
The "Monarch" that came out of nowhere and has no link to the past like the rest of the Archetype... A pathetic attempt to expand the Archetype in the face of the modern sets... Yes, I 'forgot' him for a reason...

(I realise he may be a representation of Remus; but he was never a king of Rome and I'd already created a Remus "Monarch" before then, so there you go...)
