It'll return to your field and then promptly return to the opponent.
I don't see why it would return to their side of the field o.x. If the monster was removed from the field, then it is no longer under the effects of Brain Control (Brain Control loses sight of it since it is not on the field). If it returns to your side of the field by D.D. Spirit's effect, then it would stay on your side of the field. This removal from play is a cost. 2) Even if the removal was an effect, Lighty's effect is optional. If used as a cost to Summon D.D. Spirit, then the last thing to occur was the Special Summon, not Lighty's removal. Lighty would miss the timing.

EDIT: But, also, Time Machine says... "...If your opponent had taken control of the monster with "Brain Control", etc., it will remain under your opponent's control and will not return to your side of the field in the End Phase." and it says "original position on the field", and D.D Spirit says "your side of the field", not just a general way of coming back like Dimensionhole. iAmNateXero
Your missing one key element in your argument. All those other cards says that they return to the field where this spirit clearly states "Your side of the field." BIG difference.
Toffee.
Aside from Sengan, what other cards could one use to get this to your hand? Birdman has Neutron Zephyer has Foolish Burial/Armegeddon Knight/Grepher
That's kinda interesting. Not quite sure why that would be with Dimensionhole or Antidimensional Matter Transporter. My only guess is that with Dimensionhole and Antidimensional Matter Transporter, due to the fact that the player is temporarily removing it from play, the monster is still considered to be under that player's control while it is removed from play. Since it remembers who controls it, despite being on the field, it might even remember other things such as how it was originally summoned (Normal/Flip/Special Summon, etc) and when. The ruling shown for Spirits seems to apply, and also it makes sense in regards to Semi-Nomi monsters where the came still considers them to have been Special Summoned properly or not even if removed from the field with these cards. Time Machine Special Summons the monster making it a completely new monster summon and is unrelated to the one that was affected by Brain Control, so that makes sense. In regards to D.D. Spirit, it removes the monster from play with the intent to return it, but the monster is removed as a cost, rather than an effect like with Dimensionhole/Antidimensional Matter Transporter. Not too sure if it affects anything or not, seeing that even if used as a cost, it has the intent to "return to the field". It does say "your side of the field" as well, but that may be irrelevant if it remembers information about Control as well as Summon Information.
