Prehistoric Archetype

Recommended Posts

I am deeply saddened by the fact that Dinosaurs are so outclassed that a card like "Fossil Dig" is allowed at 3, while "Reinforcement of the Army" is limited to 1. The power difference between Types is just too immense, which is why I decided to start making cards for trailing Types. This is the first of those sets: The Prehistorics. Their effects are meant to "bring the players back to a simpler form of dueling". and their effects cannot be negated to encourage this form of play.
Prehistoric Raptor
Earth/Dinosaur/4/1750/1500
This card’s effects cannot be negated. While this card is face-up on the field, card effects manually activated in the hand or Graveyard are negated, and those cards are returned the owner’s Deck instead. Once per turn, you may look at your opponent’s hand.

Prehistoric Ptera
Wind/Dinosaur/4/1500/1700
This card’s effects cannot be negated. Cards cannot be removed from play. Non-“Prehistoric” Monsters in either player's Graveyard cannot be affected by card effects. Once per turn, you may return 1 removed from play card to the owner’s Deck. If the selected card was your own, draw 1 card.

Prehistoric Stegosaur
Earth/Dinosaur/4/1400/2000
This card’s effects cannot be negated. More than 1 monster cannot be destroyed in a turn by Effect Monster effects. Other monsters cannot be destroyed by card effects during the turn this card is removed from the field.

Prehistoric Duckbill
Water/Dinosaur/4/1700/1700
This card’s effects cannot be negated. Players cannot draw more than 1 card by a card effect. This effect extends throughout the turn this card was removed from the field. Once per turn, you may shuffle 1 card from your hand into your Deck, then draw 1 card.

Prehistoric Bronto
Earth/Dinosaur/5/2200/1950
This card’s effects cannot be negated. Defense Position monsters are not destroyed by card effects. If this card was Normal Summoned, it gains the following effect: * Once per turn, you may flip 1 monster on the field into face-down Defense Position.

Prehistoric Tricera
Earth/Dinosaur/6/2300/1900
This card’s effects cannot be negated. Neither player can Special Summon monsters except by Ritual or Fusion Summon. If this card was Normal Summoned, it gains the following effect: * When this card battles a monster, negate that monster’s effect(s) until the End Phase of the turn.

Prehistoric Rex
Earth/Dinosaur/6/2450/1300
This card’s effects cannot be negated. Neither player can Special Summon monsters except by Ritual or Fusion Summon. When this card is Normal Summoned, destroy 1 Special Summoned monster on the field.

Prehistoric King Rex
Earth/Dinosaur/Fusion/9/3000/2100
“Prehistoric Rex” + “Prehistoric Tricera”
This card’s effects cannot be negated. This card is not destroyed by other Effect Monster effects, or Spell/Trap Cards that would destroy more than 1 monster with their effect. Once per turn, you may select and activate 1 of the following effects:
* Normal Summon 1 Dinosaur-Type monster from your hand without Tribute. You cannot Special Summon during this turn.
* Normal Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Dinosaur-Type Monster from your Deck.

Prehistoric Herbivore
Water/Dinosaur/Fusion/7/2700/2600
“Prehistoric Bronto” + 1 WATER monster
A Fusion Summon of this card can only be conducted with the above Fusion Material Monsters. This card’s effects cannot be negated. Neither player can destroy more than 1 monster by a card effect. Once per turn, you may decrease the ATK of 1 monster on the field by half.

Prehistoric Bird
Wind/Dinosaur/Fusion/6/2200/1900
“Prehistoric Ptera” + 1 EARTH monster
A Fusion Summon of this card can only be conducted with the above Fusion Material Monsters. This card’s effects cannot be negated. Players cannot activate more than 1 Quick-Play Spell or Trap Card per turn. Each time this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent’s Life Points, draw 1 card. Once while this card is face-up on the field, it may attack your opponent’s Life Points directly.

Primitive Jungle
Continuous Spell Card
You can Normal Summon twice in the same turn if at least 1 of the Summoned monsters is Dinosaur-Type. You cannot Special Summon more than once each turn.

A Time Long-Passed
Normal Spell Card
Add 1 “Prehistoric” monster from your Deck, Graveyard, or removed from play to your hand. You cannot Special Summon except for Fusion Summon during this turn.

Primal Fusion
Normal Spell Card
Add 1 “Polymerization” from your Deck or removed from play to your hand. That card’s activation cannot be negated this turn, and if the monster Summoned with its effect is level 6 or lower, increase its ATK and DEF by 500.

Apex Predator
Quick-Play Spell Card
If you control only Level 4 or lower Dinosaur-Type monsters, you must Tribute 1 monster to activate this card. During this turn, Dinosaur-Type monsters are unaffected by other card effects.

Earth-Shaking Roar
Normal Spell Card
Discard 1 Level 5 or higher Dinosaur-Type monster. Return all Special Summoned monsters on your opponent’s side of the field to the owner’s Deck.

Frightful Presence (Or maybe I'll call it "Sheer Overpowerment")
Normal Trap Card
Activate by selecting a face-up Dinosaur-Type monster that was Normal Summoned. Negate the effects of all of your opponent's monsters with a lower ATK than the selected monster until the End Phase of this turn.

Jurassic Heart
Counter Trap Card
Activate only when a card effect would remove a Dinosaur-Type monster from the field. Negate that card's effect and destroy its.
As a set in General: Somewhat OPed, it combines several aspects of several Meta-game cards and adds the effect of "Cannot be negated." Although I see where you are coming with this, cards like "Prehistoric Raptor" shouldn't have an effect like that that cannot be negated. I will post several recommenced changes. All in all though, great card effects.

Prehistoric Raptor: Cannot be negated, negates an untold number of cards from the graveyard or hand? Meh, it is so Anti-meta right now without any cost, its not even funny, stopping the Majority of any Meta cards there are, to many for this one card. i myself never like working with "--50" cards, so might bump it up to 1800 instead, and maybe change the effect to a (Cannot be Negated / Once Per turn, negate a card in the graveyard from activating and add it to the hand.) That negates every searcher out there, and Treeborn frog, and even some other cards, but they get the card back to somewhat even it out.

Prehistoric Ptera: Sounds like a 1500/1800 Necrovalley to me with an added effect? A (Recycle one RFP card and Draw a card) card... I would Limit it either to preventing graveyard access, or recovering removed from play cards, because as is its a Monster Version of Necrovalley that cannot be negated.

Prehistoric Stegosaur: I see nothing wrong with this, it prevents Destruction... I might be inclined to say maybe boost his ability to making it "Destroyed or Removed from play." This one seems like a Balanced beasty to me.

Prehistoric Duckbill: I assume you don't wanna use the name "Parasaurolophus" (lols) Again, a Card returner effect that cannot be negated with 1700/1700. I see nothing wrong here for now.

Prehistoric Bronto: A Bit much for a one sac monster... maybe make him either a 2 sac or loss the Book of Moon Ability he has. I can see him being abused by way to many decks as is. He is easy to bring down, yes, but his normal summon effect is a bit much...

Prehistoric Tricera: I don't see to much wrong with this. With his Attack/Defense is somewhat balanced with his Sacrifice requirement and abilities... though, it might be Limited or Semi-Limited as its a complete anti meta with all the Special summons going on.

Prehistoric Rex: Maybe lower his attack to 2400? He seems just able to beat Monarch's with his ability, but its only a suggestion. As of which, I do not see much wrong with this card... I might suggest raising his attack to 2550 or 2750 and making him a 8 star monster and the Boss (effect) monster for this deck?

Prehistoric King Rex: Might lower his attack down to 2800, as he is quite empowered as is. With as much fusion support there is at least anyway.

Prehistoric Herbivore: I don't care if it is a Fusion monster, its fusions are so Loose (1/3monsters + ANY Water monster?) and it basically mimics the effect of 2 shrinks for the entire game? i would suggest either add "Until the end of the turn", limit it to 1... and even then, lower his attack down to 2000, as 2700 can effectively beat any monster any monster with less then 5400 attack. The only other monster with that ability with such high attack is Gaia Plate the Earth Giant, which has a negative effect as well, AND can be negated by a card effect. With all the card being banned/limited for permanent Half attack, I could see this one being banned soon as it came out.

Prehistoric Bird: (1) you said Monsters, not players, (2) I would either make his effect he can attack the opponents LP's directly without being negated, or limit the activation of Quick spells to once per turn. Being as it is, it can be spammed with so many of your already existing cards to repeatedly attack directly. Also, either increase it's level by one, or decrease his attack, as a monster with 3700 attack power with a Direct Attack ability who's effect cannot be stopped is somewhat OPed.

Spell and Trap cards look good... cept for these

Primal Fusion: Make that a 4200 direct attacker. P.Bird. is easily a FTK with this card. Maybe remove the added effect of the attack boost?

Earth-Shaking Roar: you have two "." at the end... xD

Frightful Presence (Or maybe I'll call it "Sheer Overpowerment"): Why not make it "Prehistoric Overpower" and have you select one "Prehistoric" Monster on the field and have any monster who has less attack then the selected monster have their effect negated. Not to powerful, and easy to understand.

Jurassic Heart: As they already had a "Jarassic" set somewhat, why not make it "Prehistoric Heart"? Also, the added effect of "without it activating" is somewhat redundant as you have already negated the effect of the card, you do not need another effect of the same card preventing the activation. (as is, you are negating AND preventing it's activation in on card?)

May I suggest a card to, as I LOVE Dino's? :D

Prehistoric Hardhead/Bumpheads >w< the Pachycephalosaurus was my favorite Dino, shame to not see it in the original idea's. Maybe give him the (Cannot be Negated / Once Per turn, negate a card in the Hand and send it to the graveyard)? Seems alright to me, takes care of the other half of the effect of the watered down raptor?

As such: my final coment... I can really see Skill Drain becoming Limited or Banned because of the shear anti-meta this set has =/

Raptor's whole spiel is that it stops manually activated effects, not effects that a player cannot choose to activate, such as Sangan. However, I think that I'll change it so that it doesn't stop searchers like him, just cards like Quillbolt.

Ptera is supposed to completely counter RFP style, where if I already have removed cards I can add it beck to my deck so I can actually use it. Or I can use it to fatten my opponent's deck. I think I'll just decrease its stats.

Rex's downfall is that his effect is useless against non-Special Summoned monsters, but I believe I see your point. I'll make his destruction effect 1 only. I don't want to make him a 2 trib just because the Fusions are supposed to take center stage, as they were created to be powerful in the beginning of the game.

Bronto is pretty much like a Monarch in the sense that he only gets his effect if he wasn't Special Summoned. And he has lower stats than they do, so I think it's pretty fair. However, I edited his stats a little bit.

King Rex - Lowered his ATK a little bit, but his secondary effect really isn't that impressive, considering it uses up your Normal Summon.

Herbivore - Herb's effect is actually weaker than Gaia's because Gaia steals the stolen ATK for his own, Herbivore does not. However, I made it 1 monster, and added in that he can only be Summoned with the correct Material.

If I didn't have a limiting effect on him, he wouldn't be a Prehistoric. And if you read his effect, he can only attack once with his effect, and he only has 2200 ATK.

Frightful Presence - I guess that can work, I'll tinker with it.

Heart - It's called Jurrasic Heart because I stole it from the TV show >>

I was going to make one of those, and the only reason I didn't was because there is already a Fossil counterpart of him that would work for this set... but I guess I could always make it before it became a fossil =P

I didn't think of how Skill Drain would overpower other decks. The "cannot be negated" thing was supposed to be a rule for both players so they can't run it in a deck that uses Skill Drain or the like to not gain their negative effects. I dunno.

Gaia Plate the Earth Giant: No, he does not steal, only half. And he only has 100 more attack then Herbivore, and even then, he has a maintaining cost of "you must do this, or I die..." I might suggest you lower the attack of him just by a bit, or change it slightly to "Until the end of the turn".

xD I can definitely see Dino's making a come back in meta, with all the Spell and Trap support the already have... Although, I would stop Petra's effect at removing from play, if you want it to have it like that, as it is still a Necrovalley in monster form with it's own built in loop hole for Prehistoric monsters. It doesn't just shut down RFP, it also shuts down a number of monsters there are, trust me, playing Necrovalley a lot... ya xD that's stop a lot of stuff with one card. But here is the catch, with him as is, i can see either he or Quilbolt being limited, as to prevent a very common FTK with him.

Prehistoric Bird
Burn Self for X damage
Equip with "Megamorph (+2200 = 4400)
Equip with "Fusion Weapon" (+1500 = 5900) Attack Directly effect
Attack Directly for 5900 damage
Next turn, activate "Book of Moon"
Flip Summon Prehistoric Bird
Attack for 2200 for game

D: 2 turn kill with 4 relatively easy cards to draw. I would say increase his level by one, as to not have that 3700 DA, even if it is only once, 3700 is a LOT with only 2 cards.

And I can see it relatively easy to see this flood the field faster then special summons xD haha

=edit=
Also, how your cards are stated with "This card's effect cannot be negated." it makes Skill train a staple in this. It effectively doesn't touch your monsters at all, yet hinders every effect monster your opponent has, as you would be the only one to be able to use effects. Most "cannot be negated" effects are small or minor effects that are very conditionality.

I thought by Gaia you meant the E-Hero. Gaia Plate is easier to Summon, and it's a Special Summon. You have to actually Normal Summon Bronto to use its effect, which means either use a card that decreases the Level, a card that makes it so you don't have to Tribute, or actually Tribute a monster.

And the point of the Prehistorics is not just to hinder the opponent, as it also hinders your own playing style. The secondary effect of Ptera really isn't all that amazing, considering all it does is either fatten a deck or fatten it and let you draw (possibly the same card). And it's completely useless against certain decks (the second effect). They're also supposed to have relatively weak secondary effects that don't affect much of what's going on (except Stegosaur). The Tributes are meant to hinder the opponent even more, and the Fusions are meant to just be beatsticks for the most part.

Not really.
At most, its a Dinosaur-based anti-meta archetype that promotes more Normal Summons, rather the Special Summons.
Add to it, none of these are heavily DARK or LIGHT based, and kinda' promotes the use of other attributes, ergo, you would have a less of a variety of attribute support, and have to use some of the (slower) Dinosaur support in order to progress your field control.
In short, them having ATKs that are around 1700 MIGHT make them a bit over-powered, but thats kinda' pushing it.
Add to it, the monster effects are only really ment to combat commonly used meta cards. So you would have to go about using a "different" strategy if you want to beat these.

tl;dr: These arent overpowered
