Why the capatalization of the word "god" has nothing to do with religion.

I see this topic brought up, as if the word "god" is only capitalized for religious reasons. Regardless of that, you have to capitalize proper nouns, and if you use God as a proper noun, you capitalize it. If you say "a god, gods, ect." you wouldn't capitalize it. It's just basic grammar, and yet people make a big deal out of it.

Off topic: The only part of this that is religion-specific is the capitalization of pronouns referring to God.

DO NOT DISCUSS RELIGION IN THIS TOPIC! ONLY GRAMMAR!

Grammar is fairly important to me, without it things just wouldn't be delivered in the same way.

For instance:

"The sun beat down on Chris' mellow face, deeply sighing he looked up... Nothing could change what happened that day" as opposed to "the sun beat down on chris face deeply sighing he looked up nothing could changed what happened that day"

So I would say; yes, grammar is important to me, there's not much to discuss about it though.

I personally believe that grammar is quite important in these internet forums. Just the difference of calling yourself "i" or "I" can change your impression a lot.

And thisis the reason that a lot of members is scared off from posting lol. There is too many Grammar Whores here who nitpick over the smallest error. Anyhow, on Topic.... I usually capitalize God due to the fact that it's a name. Like James

I don't capitalize god, no matter the connection. I don't respect other peoples religions, but I certainly don't disrespect them either. If you know I mean. As for grammar, I try to use as good grammar as possible. Usually, only errors are typos. Or because I haven't lived in England for the past 5 years =/

Contradictory statement is contradictory.

I usually don't capitalize it because most of the time I'm talking about polytheistic systems anyway.>_> Usually I see it more like a job, like "bus driver", "cook", "doctor".
But when I refer to it as a name or when I'm in a community of people who know which god they're talking about exactly, then I might capitalize it. Like "in this part here, God/Jesus/Muhammed/Sophia does this or that" But often not.

Well if you never capitalize "god" even when it would be grammatically correct to do so, then you're going out of your way to let religion affect your grammar.

God is a noun. Nouns aren't capitalized. And it's not name either. It's a word describing a person that [s]didn't[/s] might have created the universe.

Contradicting yourself again I see. The point is, titles are also capitalized. For instance, "Coach," "General," and "Doctor" are all capitalized when referring to a single object.

What you're doing is like me saying, "harry potter does not exist, therefore I shall not capitalize his name."

No. You don't write "Yesterday, the Doctor cured me." You write "Yesterday, the doctor cured me." Likewise, "A thousand years ago, god might have created the universe."

You may only use "God" when referring to the Christian god, or any god whose name is actually "God".

"As an atheist, I don't believe in a god, however, many of my friends do. I have this one Muslim friend, her name is Alie, and she believes in a god. She says that her parents pray to Allah every day, and I feel like their god is not explained well enough in the Koran. I also have a Catholic friend, her name Alexandra. She's pretty chill, but she keeps talking about how she prays to God in church on Sundays. It gets annoying after awhile. Some Satanists believe and worship Satan, but also hold a belief towards the Biblical God. This paragraph, in the name of the Holy God, shows you how to properly use the word "god", whether the "g" should be capitalized or not."
