Not actually Locals, but this is a Tournament Report.

Recommended Posts

Meh, I just want to clarify first - I have a really, REALLY terrible budget. This deck is all made up of cards I have happened to obtain over the years, so expect it to be really terrible. It's some sort of Quickdraw Zombie Highlander that works sort of okay. But hey, you know what they say, it's the player, not the deck (or not, in my case).

This tourney took place in late Summer a while back, and after seeing an influx of Locals reports I thought I might as well post my old one.

Round 1 - Kane (Hopeless Dragon with Future Fusion & Synchros)

Game 1: He top decks Future Fusion and gets out a BEWD. I get lucky and and spam Zombie Master to perfection. I get out Mist Wurm, return BEWD and beat with Wurm and various Zombies until I win.
Game 2: He gets SaDDam out and negates everything I do. I lose hopelessly.
Game 3: Swarm with Zombies, Terraforming then Zombie World, attack. He Dark Holes, I swear. Next turn I abuse Zombie Master's effect, swarm again and go for game.

1-0

Round 2 - Andrew (Badly built Machinas)

Game 1: Summons Fortress, I bottomless. Summons another Fortress, I bottomless again. He has no grave revival bar Reincarnation, so all I do is ram through his Gearframes and Peacekeepers for game.
Game 2: Top decks a Gadget and summon 2x Fortress, attacks like crazy. I lose.
Game 3: Locks me down with Kaiser Colosseum. I MST it a couple of turns later. He gets a Fortress out, but thanks to more Zombie Master shenanigans, Mist Wurm returns to save the day. I get damn lucky.

2-0

Round 3 - Miles (Themeless Highlander with a plethora of banned cards)

Game 1: He plays 3x Card Destruction in the first 4 turns. WTF? I get angry and say he's cheating but just he defends himself by saying everyone does it. I get fed up and spam Il Blud and Pyramid Turtle for the win.
Game 2: He uses 3x CD and 3x Last Will? WTF? He just stalls like crazy and hopes I deck out. Thanks to his CD lulz I have a Graveyard full of Zombies. Zombie Master and Dark Horus spam = win.

3-0

Round 4 - Corin (Endymion)

Game 1: He is one of the only really intelligent players I know, but suffers from the same budget problems as me. Sadly, this game I realize that my Ghost Rare Black Rose Dragon is in my bag and he suffers the consequences of Zombie Master abuse.
Game 2: I almost OTK him on the third turn but he plays Self Destruct Button. SELF F*CKING DESTRUCT BUTTON. I nearly ragequit, but I come to my senses and commend him for playing well (lol).
Game 3: I'm more wary of SDB now, but I eventually spam Master and Il Blud for more Synchro shenanigans via Wurm and Black Rose. I win again.

4-0

Round 5 - Ben (Some Quickdraw Variant with a nasty surprise)

Game 1: He pulls off a great combo with Junk Synchron and Quickdraw and manages to get out a bunch of Synchros early-game. He goes straight for game.
Game 2: I get a nice opening hand and spam Zombie Master to perfection again. More lulz ensues, I win.
Game 3: He plays a lot slower now and has sided in a bunch of stalling crap like Wall of Illusion and Fader. Then someone looking at his hand says something about "one more piece to go" and I curse - he sided in Exodia, the bastard. He auto-wins.

4-1

Final - Ben again (Exodia Quickdraw)

Game 1: I'm silently relieved that he beat me as now I know about Exodia. I take no chances and D-Prison/Bottomless every he summons and side in Morphing Jar. I get lucky and win after a long, long game.
Game 2: He goes on the aggressive and does a frankly brutal manoeuvre with QD and Dandylion. I swarm with face-down Zombies and stall out, but he eventually wins.
Game 3: I get a great opening hand, swarm like crazy and attack for the win.

5-1

Pros:
+ YES! I actually won!
+ Got some decent trades.
+ Zombie Master basically won the tournament for me.

Cons:
+ Jar didn't do anything other than one flip troll and was useless for the most part.
+ MORE BANNED CARDS FROM NOOBS AAAHHHHH
+ Forgot I had BRD until several rounds in.
+ Had really shitty Tuning and Synching options as QD is only useful for getting Turbo Warrior out, but thanks to Resonator and an abundance of L4 Zombies, BRD and Mist Wurm aren't much of a problem.

According to you, Stardust is a bad synchro and Quickdraw is a bad tuner.

OT:Doesn't really seem like an epically huge tournament...congrats anyway. And you said...ghost rare Black Rose?

Also, tell that Miles guy that somebody online says he should use that deck at a regional tournament B)
No, it's just that I only have 2 copies of QD in a deck that doesn't really work too well with him. I also don't have many L3s to synch him with for Stardust, so going for Mist Wurm was easier to achieve. Although the question may arise as to why I included QD, it was because I had only one other Tuner and it allowed me to use Turbo Warrior.

Dark Resonator was there for BRD. BRD is much, much easier than SD to summon in this deck because of the abundance of L4s and swarm potential involving L4s. SD is a great card, but not many people in my local metagame run a lot of removal, so field-nuking and field-clearing with Wurm and BRD was easier to do and achieves better results in the long run.

Yeah, at my locals I had problems with people who ran banned cards. The only thing was, they were too stupid to run a smaller deck and ended up losing anyways. They had 3 Change of Hearts, 2 Dark Holes (when it was banned), and something else I can't remember right now. And almost all of their monsters were Normals... So yeah, I beat them in like 3 turns with a slow deck.

Anyways, it's cool to hear that you win, and I wouldn't expect someone to side into an Exodia deck. Sounds strange.

You do realize Quickdraw can't be used for either of the synchros in bold, right?
You can send 1 monster from your hand to the Graveyard and Special Summon this card from your hand.
You can substitute this card for any 1 "Synchron" Tuner for a Synchro Summon.
This card cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster, except for the Synchro Summon of a monster that lists a "Synchron" monster as a Tuner monster.
That kid, Ben, used to run a really, really good Exodia Stall deck. But he won every time so he got bored and decided to use a plain old Quickdraw deck. But, if he is up against someone particularly good (i.e. me) he sides in 3x Pot of Greed and 5x Exodia for the lulz. That's why I sided in Morphing Jar.

I was talking about Dark Resonator when I said that.

So basically they cheat? That's really stupid. =/

Do they not check people's decks or moderate them at all?
Yeah, basically everyone plays what they want. Thankfully none of them know about Frog or Makyura FTK :D
It's not cheating if everyone is okay with it. He was basically playing in Traditional Format.
It's worse than Trad - you can play any card @3 if you want and BKSS rulings are often ignored. The only time I've ever exploited this was with my Harpie deck - I played HL1, 2 and 3 all @3 and used a single copy of Last Will. But everyone else doesn't abide by the banlist. Me and Corin are the only players that play Advanced Format with our decks, the rest all don't:
Kane plays Dark Hole @2.
Ben plays Pot of Greed @3.
Andrew plays Heavy Storm @2.
Miles does whatever the hell he wants, he plays Card Destruction @3, Last Will @3 and various other banned cards @3.

Well if that's the case then I'm surprised you didn't lose. Our locals were Traditional, but nobody runs FTKs because that's boring (and plus most of the people didn't have the cards). We only saw 2 OTKs, one of them being by a 30-year-old guy using Cyber-Stein.
To be honest, not many of them are good players. Kane's Dark Holes were ineffective for the most part as destroying Zombies doesn't tend to do much when you've got lots of Special Summoning support like Zombie Master and Mezuki. Miles' CDs and Wills just irritated me, but it turns out he was the only guy I 2-0'd. Ben's PoGs were the only real problem - with 3 of them and the fact that he doesn't shuffle well (they always turn up together) he gets Exodia out really easily.

If I was at your locals I'd build a cheap Makyura FTK.
